A question for SAHM's

If you're asked (by a doctor for example) "Do you work?", what do you answer?

If you have to fill out a form, what do you put down for occupation?

I didn't mean this thread to be a moan either. I just feel that the wording of the question "Do you work?" is not very good, because it implies that staying at home is not working. While I would agree that there are plenty of jobs which are at least as hard/harder than being a SAHM, being at home with young children does not mean that you're not working!

Why can't they just ask "What do you do?"

When I said I was a stay-at-home-mum to a doctor in the hospital in answer to that question he replied "God, the hardest job of all."

And he wasn't being patronising or sarcastic!

I could have kissed him!

Oh yes, I was told I was a housewife too Angry to which I replied "no, SAHM, I look after my children not the house" :o
