Our neighbourhood has a "Buddhist Village", complete with health food store, alternative health centre, Buddhist temple, and a couple of vegetarian restaurants. Oh, and an ethical gifts shop.

Our street has a man who always sweeps outside with no shirt on, while singing loudly. Think Pavarotti, but only in appearance, not singing skills.

What's weird about your neighbourhood.

That looks cheerfully futuristic, hausfrau. What does it do? Some sort of mind control thing?

I love this thread.....I love 40 minutes from DisneyWorld, 40 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and 1.5 hours to the Gulf of Mexico. I live 4 hours from one of the top shelling spots in the world, Sanibel. We are the lightining capital of the United States I hear, with more strikes per square foot than any other part of the nation. My home office looks out onto our pool...and sometimes I still have the nerve to be depressed about life and money and my sexlife!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/03/2006 17:09

Well, if she lives under it, it must be her tv aerial, mustnt it Grin

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/03/2006 17:10

I LOVED Sanibel when we went there many moons ago!

spursmum · 03/03/2006 17:11

I live on the old airfield that was used for the filming of Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. Also the home of the jet engine apparently. And Hatfield House of course, supposedly where Elizabeth 1st was when she found out that she was going to be queen.

Also the first person in england to be run over by a motor car is buried in a nearby cemetary which featured in a tv prog over christmas about victorian murders

marytee · 03/03/2006 17:58

The only thing that springs to mind is the amount of rubbish dumped locally, can't believe there is anywhere worse for people randomly tipping their rubbish, Sad and Angry

will try to think of something else...

oh yes, the man who runs the charity shop round the corner is being investigated by the UN, accused of raising funds from shop sales to fund terrorism!Shock

We are absolutely desperate to move!!

NotQuiteCockney · 03/03/2006 18:26

PC, Iceland smells of sulphur. That's where we honeymooned. So for me, that's what sulphur means.

Why would the M5 smell of sulphur? Where is the M5? (My map of the UK consists of London, and then some warnings about dragons.)

there is an enormous house on the way to school that houses mental illness patients to rehabilitate them into society. One of their patients does a circuit round the high street and surrounding roads twice a day and counts his steps the whole way round.

spacecadet · 03/03/2006 20:08

we have an enormous radio transmitter and a giant water tower, just down the road, damn great thing, you can see it for miles.

brimfull · 03/03/2006 20:12
