A desperate plea from a tired, hardworking, sleep deprived, skint mother of two. In a moment of madness I entered my ds into a photocomp in our local paper and was chuffed when he won for April. The grand final is now underway and the winner will be determined by the most online votes cast by the end of January. Would all you lovely mumsnetters mind logging on to \link{http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/childoftheyear} and register a vote for the 7mth old db on page 2 who looks like a fox in headlights! (initials HW) The winning prize is a trip to Disney in Paris! Thanking you all in advance (god I could do with a holiday) x

Which bit of my comment was near the mark ??

mandieb · 18/01/2006 23:14

and shall we move on

mollymaid · 18/01/2006 23:14

the second paragraph

nutcracker · 18/01/2006 23:16

Well sorry if you find what I said offensive but you are doing exactly what I said in that paragraph so I don't see whats offensive about it.

mollymaid · 18/01/2006 23:20

you made it sound like I was doing something immoral.

mandieb · 18/01/2006 23:22

Hmmm free holiday or no holiday ? now which one shall I pick LOL

nutcracker · 18/01/2006 23:23

Depends on your morals I guess.

I have no objection to entering kids in to photo contests, and have done so with 2 of my 3 kids and one was even in the paper so that people could vote but, thats it. I voted once and to my knowledge each memeber of my family voted once, which to me is fair and square.

mandieb · 18/01/2006 23:24

But I bet every other contestant is voting loads

nutcracker · 18/01/2006 23:24

Bit of a differnce though, entering a comp where you fill something in, for a free holiday, or entering a pic of your baby and begging strangers to vote for them to win a holiday.

nutcracker · 18/01/2006 23:25

Yeah they probably are, thats up to them. I just prefer to play fair thats all.

mandieb · 18/01/2006 23:29

I didbt notice any begging did i miss something then ?

mollymaid · 18/01/2006 23:30

You said in your earlier note that "There are plenty of people that need a holiday, but they don't get put a piccie of their baby up on the internet and ask complete strangers to vote for them." Wasn't that exactly what you were doing with your children then. Even though you say you didn't canvass for votes you were still inviting strangers to vote for your children?
Anyway, I put the note on mumsnetter in good faith and am grateful to those who have taken it in the spirit it was intended (special thanks to Mandeib!)... I'll stop bumping and carry on voting for my ds...

'I need your help pleeeeese'

and

'a desperate plea'

nutcracker · 18/01/2006 23:32

My kids piccies went in the local paper not on the world wide web, and I didn't do it to get a holiday. I did it to get some pictures of my kids, the comp was just part of that.

nutcracker · 18/01/2006 23:32

Anyway, good luck, may the fairest persons parents win.

mollymaid · 18/01/2006 23:34

what is your problem with the prize being a holiday!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry I just don't get it. Its not like I'm pimping my child to get a fortnight in Ibiza! Its a weekend in Disneyland!!

night

julienetmum · 18/01/2006 23:51

Two of my cousin's babies won similar competitions. They are not won fair and square but by the person who can muster up the largest amount of family and friends to vote. In my cousin's case it was a telephone vote. SHe has a very large family and they run up a huge phone bill voting hundreds of times.

My dd was entered in the same comp and got nowhere.

So fair play to mollymaid for being resourceful if she hasn't got a large amount of people locally to vote.

mollymaid · 18/01/2006 23:54

ah thank you.. to be honest I thought if you can't beat them, join them. I more than anyone would have loved it to have been one vote per person - it would have saved me a lot of time and effort! Yes I could sit back and let fate take its course but I think that it would be daft not to give it a good go
