A desperate plea from a tired, hardworking, sleep deprived, skint mother of two. In a moment of madness I entered my ds into a photocomp in our local paper and was chuffed when he won for April. The grand final is now underway and the winner will be determined by the most online votes cast by the end of January. Would all you lovely mumsnetters mind logging on to \link{http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/childoftheyear} and register a vote for the 7mth old db on page 2 who looks like a fox in headlights! (initials HW) The winning prize is a trip to Disney in Paris! Thanking you all in advance (god I could do with a holiday) x

God we are a cynical grumpy old lot aren't we? So do I on both levels. Good luck though.

mollymaid · 18/01/2006 22:21

Flossom, what do you mean "on both levels" - can someone explain?

OP posts:
Clayhead · 18/01/2006 22:22

I guess she means

Competitions like these
Asking people to vote

but that's just my interpretation...

Flossam · 18/01/2006 22:27

Ok I;m sorry I don't mean to offend. I have seen these type of things but didn't like the thought of having his picture in the paper. Anyone could look. But when I think about that I realise I have plastered pictures of DS on here. So I am being hypocritical, sorry. Also I like a fair competition. I would rather know that my DS won the competition because he genuinely was the most lovely, not just because I asked some people on the internet to vote for him. And having not had a holiday for 2 years I do understand exactly how you feel. So without offending you I hope (and realising by examining it that I am actually a hypocrite!) that is what I meant.

Flossam · 18/01/2006 22:27

Yes CH, put much more simply...

mollymaid · 18/01/2006 22:30

oh well, like most topics of conversation on mumsnet you are not going to appeal to all the people all the time. Personally, if a topic didn't interest me I would simply ignore it.

However, I am very grateful to those mumsnetters who HAVE taken the time to vote because they have nothing to gain from it.

I was just so proud and excited that my ds was in the final with a chance for him and his sister to go to disney that I asked every possible person I knew to stick a few votes in for me. If I've offended a few people along the way then so be it. As the saying goes "the things you do for your kids"...

OP posts:
LadySherlockofLGJ · 18/01/2006 22:32

If entering you were entering your child for a competition for a lifetime supply of nappies or entertainers at B/D parties or even as Misdee has done a photo shoot, I would happily vote.

But to be told you are a tired, hardworking, sleep deprived, skint, mother of two, followed by......(god I could do with a holiday).

Well, quite frankly it leaves me stone cold.

mollymaid · 18/01/2006 22:34

Flossom you don't need to apologise! You're entitled to your opinion. I agree that I would much rather have had his photo judged by a panel or something or know that everyone was allowed one vote per person. But those aren't the rules. I have been given a one in 12 chance of winning a trip for my little ones and know I will not be the only one championing votes, so am just doing what every other parent will be doing.

mollymaid · 18/01/2006 22:35

LadySherlock, IT WAS A JOKE!

OP posts:
LadySherlockofLGJ · 18/01/2006 22:36

What was a joke ???

handlemecarefully · 18/01/2006 22:41

I'm not keen on beauty contests for children generally, but that said, I hope you get your holiday to DLP!
