I was given a play telephone at the age of 10!

Blandmum · 21/11/2005 17:58

No-one is gonna beat the knicker elastic

NewBethlehemGirlwithsparkles · 21/11/2005 17:59

I can't ever think of a bad one but there was a MNetter last year who got a teapot handbag, lol.
Had me laughing for days.

Who was it....??

LilacBump · 21/11/2005 18:00

bath oils when we didn't have a bath in the house... every single year i got those.

gigglinggoblin · 21/11/2005 18:02

i got 4 small bottles of lager from a fairly well off uncle (the sort thats 12 for £2.99 or so). i dont drink lager and he knew it cos he offered me one at my dads birthday 3 days before

the same uncle brought round his sons old go kart for my ds's. it didnt have any pedals but he said his 14 yo could manage fine on it. oldest ds was 5! (yes, that was the only pressie they were going to get). i politely declined

polly28 · 21/11/2005 18:20

Pinotmum · 21/11/2005 18:22

A pirate tape of Phyllis Nelson's album - only knew 1 song "Move Closer" and my ught wad brother must have spent about £2.00 in total on it. I remember I taped over it with something else. I also remember being so mad I had to restrain myself at the dinner table.

Pinotmum · 21/11/2005 18:23

should read tight-wad

wenceslaligo · 21/11/2005 18:25

i did mention the varnished bread owl on another thread...

expatinscotland · 21/11/2005 18:25

Why is it that those who are most tight-fisted are those who are never the most poverty-striken?

gigglinggoblin · 21/11/2005 18:27

they gave my mum an M&S underskirt one year. she doesnt wear them so tried to take it back but was told she couldnt have a refund for items bought more than 5 years before. was probably a pressie his wife got and didnt want

a head towel turban - doesn't fit and took ages to fit my hair underneath - much easier and quicker to wrap a towel round your head!

WigWamBam · 21/11/2005 18:30

I still have the 34 metres of elastic that MIL gave me for Christmas last year, if anyone wants it ...

frannyandzooey · 21/11/2005 18:31

We got a huge framed portrait, in pastels of ds, from my MIL. It was hideous. I have never felt so offended in my life - did she really think my beautiful son looked like that?

Dp was actually so horrified he told her we had nowhere to put it and that she should keep it herself . Very rude, I know.

Blandmum · 21/11/2005 18:32

wwb, that is the best ever! You win, hands down, and for forever!

frannyandzooey · 21/11/2005 18:33

Ooh and gigglinggoblin's reminds me, my sister bought me two enormous heavy candlesticks from M + S and as we were quite hard up at the time, I took them back to exchange for some groceries. The woman at the checkout was embarrassed to tell me they had cost 50p in the sale.

gigglinggoblin · 21/11/2005 18:34

was there a reason behind giving you elastic?

spidermama · 21/11/2005 18:34

An afro comb/ (My hair is very straight).

WigWamBam · 21/11/2005 18:35

She gave me the elastic because it's very hard to get hold of these days, and you never know when you might need it ...

Blandmum · 21/11/2005 18:36

You could make a massive catapult and fire her out of it!

Catbert · 21/11/2005 18:38

A solar water fountain from MIL for the pond we don't have. ?

jinglinggoblin · 21/11/2005 18:39

is it? i had better stock up then. here i was thinking you could just nip down the haberdashery shop

KBearthePolarBear · 21/11/2005 18:42

I got a leopard-print satin nightie from MIL a couple of years back. "I saw this and thought of you" she said.

I am the LEAST likely person to wear leopard print EVER.

I'm a bear FGS.

Nightynight · 21/11/2005 18:49

2 videos of Harrison Ford films, about 10 years ago from my brother.
Er, why?
Apparently he thought I was in love with Harrison Ford!
Ive never really been on the same wavelenght as the rest of my family.
