I am IN the Mumsnet Rules and really wish I wasn't!!

Never in a million years thought I would be in it: I'm not a prolific poster and my kids are quite young, so I'm not often dispensing advice on here, more often asking for it. But of course thought it would be fun if I was. But NO.

Of all the things that I'm quoted on, it's making my dh sound like a bad parent in a parenting book!

I somewhat criticised his parenting style on here 3 years ago, never dreaming it would appear in a book. (Yes, yes I know it's a public site, mumsnet owns the rights to our ramblings...).

So, for the record, DH is a wonderful parent and the best dad in the world. He is a fully hands-on Dad, has tons and tons more patience than me, plays with them way more than me and hardly ever shouts at them, unlike me.

We had some disagreements in the early days, when we were just starting to have to lay down some rules with dd1, and I think he just hadn't thought about how we should approach it, but in fact as he says, it is me that shouts at them more, even though in some ways he's a more traditional disciplinarian. We have 2 dds now, and things have changed so much since I wrote that post. He is 100% the best father I know.

There. Now put that in your next book please!

I want to know if I'm in it, too...

I've said interesting things in the past about glitter that have made it into the national press, so there is a definite chance Grin

stealthsquiggle · 21/06/2011 12:31

I too want to know whether I am in it. Then I can decide whether to buy a copy for new-mum friend and dare her to work out who I am (as it were)

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/06/2011 12:32

Ah ok, fair enough. Probably what I would have done too :)

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 21/06/2011 12:34

ooh yes post a list.. (not that I ever say anything that is printable!)

EggyAllenPoe · 21/06/2011 12:35

why not just tell your DH so you can laugh it off, and still be pleased to have your words in print?

mrsbabookaloo · 21/06/2011 12:46

Eggyallen Poe - i did tell him, and we are not at the stage where we can laugh it off yet. He said he wasn't really upset, but he had a big go at me this am about Ready Brek, which may have been related....

as I said, he already thinks I'm too gobby and indiscreet and now there's published proof.

OP posts:
Threadworm8 · 21/06/2011 12:50

Whoops, I think DH displacement of anger onto Ready Brek issues might be the sort of thing that stands a chance of being in the next book.

Ok, have downloaded and searched and I have been quoted three times, one of which makes me sound very learned and I cannot remember writing. Wonder if I c&ped that comment.

MrsB
Why don't you look at it from the other side: "Oh, isn't that interesting, remember when we used to argue about this all the time. You [to your DH] have become much less confrontational with DD and have a better relationship for it."

MmeLindor. · 21/06/2011 12:53

Threadie
the guinea pig eulogies are in it, including your Ode To The Dog.

notnowbernard · 21/06/2011 12:54

MmeLindor how did you download it?!

Am I in it?!

If I am, I'll wager it's regarding glitter, Ikea or sleeping lions

Aren't I interesting Hmm

mrsbabookaloo · 21/06/2011 12:55

Threadworm - arse...you may be right...shouldn't have mentioned that.

MmeLindor. You are a genius, that is exactly what I should say. I sort of have, but will rephrase and reiterate.

And, yes I couldn't really remember writing it.

OP posts:
CatIsSleepy · 21/06/2011 12:57

yep emphasise how much better things are and how very old that quote is

MmeLindor. · 21/06/2011 12:57

On Kindle, Notnow. here

You can read it on your PC if you download Kindle for PC, or on iPhone with Kindle app. iPhone has search function.

stealthsquiggle · 21/06/2011 12:59

MmeL - from a non-kindle-owning cheapskate to a genius - pretty please could you search for me Grin?

notnowbernard · 21/06/2011 13:00

What Stealth said Grin

PredictableDullard · 21/06/2011 13:01

mn should have a list all mners quoted, i can't be arsed buying it

mrsbabookaloo · 21/06/2011 13:01

Catissleepy, we just have an ongoing thing about real porridge versus ready brek and it all got a bit testy this am. God, we sound a bit dysfunctional don't we?

DD2 gets up at 5:30, which may be the root of many of our troubles.

OP posts:
allhailtheaubergine · 21/06/2011 13:02

"He is cross with me quite often as it is, and thinks I am too outspoken, and often tells me off for saying things about him in public."

Often tells me off ????

And now he's had a go at you over ReadyBrek.

And has the royal arse about something you said anonymously 2 years ago?

He's not coming over great on this thread either tbh.

Threadworm8 · 21/06/2011 13:03

Mme, I'd heard that Beetle's Life in Verse had finally been published but I didn't think any of my contribs were in: are you sure it wasn't Habbibu's or Iorek's dog verse? They were way better.

mrsbabookaloo · 21/06/2011 13:03

predictabledullard (good name!) - yes, i think so, but maybe they think it'll boost sales if everyone buys it just to see if they're in it.

That's not why I bought it. I bought it cos I'm a saddo. And then was embarrassed that it was a hardback and looks like I really wanted to invest in it as a serious addition to my book collection. It is quite entertaining tho.

OP posts:
CatIsSleepy · 21/06/2011 13:04

5.30- that's not good, no wonder things got testy
(can't stomach readybrek myself-real porridge all the way, but only at the weekend...)

MNHQ should send us a discount code if we are in it.

Under your normal posting names, you are not in it. But you might be under other names.

Ah, wait. Bernard not Bernhard.
