I am IN the Mumsnet Rules and really wish I wasn't!!

Never in a million years thought I would be in it: I'm not a prolific poster and my kids are quite young, so I'm not often dispensing advice on here, more often asking for it. But of course thought it would be fun if I was. But NO.

Of all the things that I'm quoted on, it's making my dh sound like a bad parent in a parenting book!

I somewhat criticised his parenting style on here 3 years ago, never dreaming it would appear in a book. (Yes, yes I know it's a public site, mumsnet owns the rights to our ramblings...).

So, for the record, DH is a wonderful parent and the best dad in the world. He is a fully hands-on Dad, has tons and tons more patience than me, plays with them way more than me and hardly ever shouts at them, unlike me.

We had some disagreements in the early days, when we were just starting to have to lay down some rules with dd1, and I think he just hadn't thought about how we should approach it, but in fact as he says, it is me that shouts at them more, even though in some ways he's a more traditional disciplinarian. We have 2 dds now, and things have changed so much since I wrote that post. He is 100% the best father I know.

There. Now put that in your next book please!

MmeLindor is going to drastically reduce the number of bought-it-to-see-if-I-was-in-it!

GypsyMoth · 21/06/2011 13:44

i wonder if there will be a netmums equivalent??

Threadworm8 · 21/06/2011 13:45

Well, guinea pig poetry is a new genre. I'm sure that as the canon grows these early works will be regarded as crude. But we are still literary pioneers.

thumbwitch · 21/06/2011 13:45

Threadie - it will be interesting, yes! I'd be doing searches for how many times any particularly irritating phrases cropped up - if they appear more than once, then that's a no-no for me.
I find that I notice them as I'm reading the paper version already - but being able to search the book prior to reading would save me a lot of time and irritation! Grin

MmeLindor. · 21/06/2011 13:46

:o Trillian

Interesting idea, Threadworm. I guess it would depend on the type of book. It would not really help much to search a romance novel for the phase, "I love you" as you know that is going to happen sometime anyway. It will make searching for a particular quote easier, and aid research when reading a non-fiction book.

BibiThree · 21/06/2011 13:47

Thank you for searching. Little bit disappointing, but I'm not a prolific poster on MN, so I shouldn't be surprised.

MmeLindor. · 21/06/2011 13:47

yy, Thumbwich. If I had thought of that, I could have searched for "...what happened behind the rustic shutters" in the expat in "rural France" book that I read last month.

Grin

But thanks to her I know I'm in it twice, she is very kind!

mrsbabookaloo · 21/06/2011 13:48

Lots of people are in under Christmas or Halloween names it seems, so if you're searching, you might not be found that easily.

Pagwatch - was only being lighthearted, just wondering if you might have been a co-author!

OP posts:
MmeLindor. · 21/06/2011 13:48

Bibi
I don't know if it is prolific posting, or just that one happened to comment on a topic that the book author wanted to include. Avoiding swearing probably helped too.

JustKeepSwimming · 21/06/2011 13:56

Mme - can you search for me? pretty please Grin
JustKeep

MmeLindor. · 21/06/2011 14:17

JustKeep
I can only search for the one name, not for variations it seems. Sorry.

JustKeepSwimming · 21/06/2011 14:21

Don't worry Mme - i decided i should try this kindle thingie whatsit & bought it myself - once i figured out how to!

I searched for 'justkeep' - not in it, phew Grin

Hullygully · 21/06/2011 14:27

Do you think anyone will buy it excpet Mnetters who want to know if they're in it? V niche market.

MmeLindor. · 21/06/2011 14:28

I have thought about buying it for a friend who has just had a baby. Not sure if she will "get" the humour though

Oh, and I had better stop spoiling MNHQ's chance of selling more copies by looking to see if posters are in it.

:o

Hullygully · 21/06/2011 14:32

Paggy told me I'm in it and what I said, so saved me the need to get it, as obviously I have no interest in teh rest of it.

allhailtheaubergine · 21/06/2011 14:37

I don't need to buy a copy. I WON a copy.

Threadworm8 · 21/06/2011 14:37

We are all just hopeless egotists aren't we. Read something that someone else said about parenting? No thank you!Grin

Hullygully · 21/06/2011 14:41

Yes, really who cares what anyone else thinks?

FlubbaBubba · 21/06/2011 14:51

Wouldn't it just be cheaper then to do a search on MN for all your own posts, and to sit back and marvel at the much sought after advice you've given over the years? :o

Pagwatch · 21/06/2011 14:54

The nice thing is that instead of saying my occupation is carer or sahm, I can now say " well actually I am a published poet "

JustKeepSwimming · 21/06/2011 16:43

PMSL Pag - just read your poem Grin

I'm finding it worth a read so far.
