Well, I hope I don't get flung off for this! For those of you who don't know (as discussed on the 'Eastenders' thread, for some unknown reason!) I was sent an email of 200 song lyrics from the 1980's, the idea being to name the song title and performer (Never Mind the Buzzcocks style). Me and my friend's did okay-ish and we had great fun saying 'Oh, I'm sure I know this one...' and singing them all (loudly and badly). I figured if we can have an Eastenders thread then surely a little light entertainment such as this will be allowed? I hope it provokes a lively discussion though...?! I've put the first 24 on for now and if you like them I can cut and paste the rest, sound fair?! Enjoy.....

1 My job is very boring I’m an office clerk
2 First she’ll take your pride; turn it on its side

3 Some way after midnight in my wildest fantasies
4 Don’t say you’re easy on me

5 My head is in a spin. My feet don’t touch the ground

6 I never did good things. I never did bad things
7 We are the ones that make a brighter day
8 So he told it all and, in return, he got a credit card and a Thunderbird

9 And if you say run, I’ll run to you

10 Ronnie Kray, do you know my name?

11 What do you think? Can’t think at all.
12 You won’t settle down, you’ve got both feet off the ground

13 All we wanted to do is have a good time, then they went and took our house away

14 Imagination never lets us take the blame
15 Don’t need no credit card to ride this train
16 I’ve been to paradise

17 All the world is football shaped, its just for me to kick its face

18 He’s his family’s pride and joy, his mother’s little Golden Boy

19 Where do we go from here? Is it down to the lake I fear?

20 Across the Serengeti

21 Hand in hand is the only way to land and always the right way round

22 I’ve got this feeling of emotion, a sudden sense of liberty

23 All I wanted was a word

24 We’re not going to live in silence, we’re not going to live in fear

You want some more? Course you do, I reckon there are some really easy ones in here, but I'd love to know the more obscure (66,102?)...!

51 Just one smack and I was out of whack
52 And many fantasies were learned on that day
53 Wows are few, frustration more common
54 And the judge and the jury put the blame on me
55 Le rum et mumba, embouteillages
56 Chez les Blacks chez les Sikhs chez les Jaunes
57 If so how often? Which do you choose the hard or soft option?
58 Money’s on that you can score
59 Words in pictures, words in books
60 I’m looking for someone, someone I know I can count on
61 Tongue’s tired, and I’m too tired to even try. Ooh, try a little harder.
62 You’re such a hot temptation
63 Let’s head for home now. Everything I have is yours.
64 You can have a big dipper; going up and down, around the bends
65 And you go home and you cry and you want to die
66 Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind. I always give it up for the touch of a younger kind.
67 One hundred million castaways looking for a home
68 London, New York, Paris, Munich
69 Talk about it talk about it talk about it
70 You’ve got the power to know
71 And I’ve never been close in all of these years
72 I get up but nothing gets me down
73 Run to the sun little one
74 You know you’re missing out on something and that something depends on you
75 I’ll lay down my coat so you can walk over a puddle
76 Don’t drink, don’t smoke, what do you do?
77 Yesterday I felt so old it made me want to cry
78 I love you more than you love me
79 She unscrews the top from the old whiskey bottle
80 These are the days when you wish your bed was already made
81 I don’t feel too steady on my feet
82 I want to be with you be with you night and day
83 Got to find a way, find a way to get away
84 Those two wet gits with their girly curly hair
85 Rolling like thunder under the covers
86 Working in a factory eight days a week
87 We’re gonna drink a barrel and much much more
88 Some of them want to be abused
89 How can we dance while our world is turning
90 It was 4am in the morning
91 How long, how low, high how can you go?
92 Take or leave us only please believe us
93 I’ve got something to tell you, I’ve got something to say
94 She knows I’m there, I’m always there but heaven knows
95 Blessed is the millionaire who shares your wedding day
96 It’s the house on the hill
97 Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone, but Judy left the same time.
98 You took a whole lot of something from a handful of nothing
99 When you walk on by, will you call my name?
100 And love means nothing in some strange quarters
101 Throw off you mental chains
102 I want a doctor to take a picture so I can look at you from inside as well

I've got the answers now (cheers jodee) but I'm going to be mean and tell you them all when all 200 are up (it won't take long at this rate will it!) I haven't even looked at them myself yet, promise...

71-Simply Red I think, the one with the boy in a cap on the record cover (record cover! Those were the days - 12" and 45's)

Joe · 11/10/2001 17:40

Am I the only one that gets laughed at when they call albums LP's still.

Snugs · 11/10/2001 18:04

Wornout - 85 is Elton John, not 84. And yes 98 is Alison Moyet.......but what's the title? That ones going to bug me now.

Is 96 Kate Bush?

Ems · 11/10/2001 18:28

Alison Moyet, No98, All Cried Out.

Minx · 11/10/2001 20:59

Joe - calling them albums is dodgy now.

Actually I know all the answers to this, she said smugly, because this went round work a few months ago. However, I shan't be a spoilsport.

Wornout · 12/10/2001 10:45

All cried out - Alison Moyet now I can get some sleep at night (well I would do if the boys would let me).

Joe · 12/10/2001 11:09

Yeah I know Minx, I do try to be up with everbody else but it just slips out.

Nata · 12/10/2001 11:32

I'm a definite 80's babe!
Everything on the list (well almost) I can remember.

Is the lyric quiz over or still active?
I almost wish I could say I know them all, after all I Smash Hits was my bible!!

Jbr · 12/10/2001 14:51

I would hope you have heard of Blue - they've had 2 top ten hit, indeed one was number one.

Jbr · 12/10/2001 14:51

Jodee · 12/10/2001 19:47

jbr, the point I was making was that I have totally lost track of what's in the charts altogether. I was quoting the list from the paper!

Munchkinsugarpie · 12/10/2001 23:18

This is totally delicious!!! You lot of great Saddo's! Now I've found my niche.... BUT everytime I got one right you lot had already answered it.... you've been on the net ALL DAY!

So.... here goes...
Er.. Snugs - 96 isn't Kate Bush, it's already been answered -House on the hill -Amityville....a funkyish rap song (after the film at that time)
Also -

99 - Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds
71 - A different Corner - George Michael

Yay! I got 2 as well!
