OP posts:
aloha · 01/11/2005 22:58

Nope. Doesn't work for a girl.

princesspeahead · 01/11/2005 22:58

I can appreciate it as a name... but would you call your first born son Valentine?!

He suggested it just after I'd said "George?" and he said "NO! God, the kid would get bullied at school with a name like George" (still don't understand that).

So in the wonderful world of my dh's brain George=bullying at school, Valentine= absolutely fine. Hmmmm

princesspeahead · 01/11/2005 22:59

Dudley he thought would be marvellous shortened to "Dude". He was going through Big Lebowski phase

CountessDracula · 01/11/2005 22:59

Yes good point tho my Dad wanted to call my bro Quatermass Ignatius (maybe you could use that but would have to be Quatermasse Ignatia)

CountessDracula · 01/11/2005 23:00

How about Valentina?

Come on what is the one you have decided upon? Am DYING to know...

princesspeahead · 01/11/2005 23:00

Oh yes, dh suggested Quercus as well, can't for the life of me remember why. Can you imagine? Especially with our surname!

aloha · 01/11/2005 23:01

I like George. It was second choice for ds. Was he thinking of Georgie-Porgie?
Dudley is just being silly.

CountessDracula · 01/11/2005 23:01

PMSL - wouldn't quite go

You could always double barrel it - Quercus Fotherington-Peahead

princesspeahead · 01/11/2005 23:01

no chance! I have at least 3 months to change my mind and I have no desire to have 40 mumsnetters tell me that it is a crap name!

CountessDracula · 01/11/2005 23:02

you could sneakily email me and I promise to adore it

CountessDracula · 01/11/2005 23:02

unless it is Dorcas

princesspeahead · 01/11/2005 23:02

I really like George. One of my ds's would probably be George if I had a different husband.
Sigh.
Think my children have escaped lightly all things considered...

princesspeahead · 01/11/2005 23:03

hmmmmmmmmmmm

I'll think about it CD

ThomCat · 02/11/2005 10:59

No-one can put me off kasper, I adore it far too much. And that's where i got the idea from a danish film producer or director or someone who emailed me at the beginning of my pregnancy and i just thought 'poh yessss, that's the one' told D and e fell for it immediatley too.

D's female cousin is called Ziggy and I have always loved the name on her. Her full name is Ziggoina (sp?). As not one single person apart from me and d has ever said anything nice about it I feel bad calling my DD Ziggy.

bundle · 02/11/2005 11:21

when I lived in Southampton one of our neighbours (v lah-di-dah)had a cat called Caspar and her high-pitched calls for him still haunt me...(sorry TC! )

ThomCat · 02/11/2005 11:30

That's ok, i don't mind, like I say, I just can't go off the name.

my mums cat is called Jasper and she hates the fact her future grandson might be called Kasper. Think she's praying I have a girl or change my mind.

Thomcat... is it the 'Z' you like? I think there's something rather exotic about names starting with unusual letters. I quite like Zoe for that reason. Or what about Zobeida?

ThomCat · 02/11/2005 11:39

hmmm no, not keen on Zoe for our family, nice name, but not for me.
No, think I just like Ziigy! I like the Zee sound, LOL, probably trying to think why too hard, i just like it!

My tummy flips right over with excitment when I think about having a son called kasper

Ellbell · 02/11/2005 11:54

I'm a fan of Kasper too. I also believe that children 'grow into' their names, so if you like Ziggy then go with it. People will soon get used to it.

Gem13 · 02/11/2005 20:41

pph - I know 2 people with Somerset as a middle name. Weirdly both have siblings with Wiltshire as a middle! I did grew up on the S/W border though.

I like Somerset as a first name. Friend of a friend has a son with it as a first name.

Gem13 · 02/11/2005 20:42

I used to know a very good looking Caspar. Not keen on the 'C' version ThomCat?

JanH · 02/11/2005 20:48

Loads of Z names for inspiration, TC

sammac · 02/11/2005 21:04

Friend od a friend had a son called Ziggy, think it's short for Siegfried(sp?) She says that everyone comments on what a cool name it is! But what do I know- I have a Kai AND a Zoe!!!!
