This isn't Twitter. Pack it in with the @, if you'd be so kind

Have noticed this lately - and ToadintheHole, I'm going to apologise straight off, because you've just done it to my name, but it's not an attack on you, it's been bugging me for days - lots of @username when addressing someone.

Now, I'm assuming that this has some technical necessity on Twitter (don't touch the stuff, myself), but what's wrong with just username, without the @. If you say my name, I know you're addressing me. I really do.

cherylvole · 13/09/2010 17:31

well you Cold start wiht following slebes but has FN has discovered its a thankless task.

we/I have a little gang on there that is always getting bigger. strangely i always prsumed everyone knew everyone else in rl but they dont, seems i introduced them
a good way to find poeple to follow is if you are watching the same tv show and do a hashtag eg #topgear
also people retweet you if you are drole enough and that automatically gets a follow
no idea how many of mine are mners and how many arent.

you also get spammy followers but unless they tweet i let them follow tbh for number vanity Wink

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that all the oh-so-funny journos, pundits and comedic types band together to indulge in chummy networking competitive badinage of a slightly self-congratulory nature. They could keep their tweets private, and amongst themselves, but Oh No, that would defeat the object. Because despite the fact that it's probably one big exclusive cyber-club we non-famous non-meeja types are denied access to, they get their validation from knowing that we are outside, gawping with our little faces pressed to the window, set in an expression of awe mixed with jealousy.

I'm still going to follow them all though.Blush

cherylvole · 13/09/2010 17:38

ill dm you about who is drole

goodmanners · 13/09/2010 17:41

i think i might just de register then as im not into all that crapola and despise facebook drole about how many craps someoen has a day.

FellatioNelson · 13/09/2010 18:36

Well you don't have to follow them, GM, you just just pretned they aren't there and find your own entertainment from scratch. I have just been amused by how so many of them seem to speak to one another and only one another. Not that I've tried to infiltrate them yet.

I've just tried to sign in only to be told that I have deactivated my account.Confused

It's news to me. I can re-register, but it means I have lost my lovely name AGAIN now. I'll have to be FN3 this time. Which is a bit galling -it sounds like I'm a bandwagon jumper.Angry

Alouiseg · 13/09/2010 18:50

Oh no! that's a bit annoying.

What's your tweet name cherylvole

FellatioNelson · 13/09/2010 19:03

Can someone look and tell me how complicated it is to deactivate your own account? I find it very hard to believe I could have done it by mistake with one accidental click. You usually have to confirm these things.

I'm wondering if I've been nobbled.Hmm

Alouiseg · 13/09/2010 19:24

I've got no idea. It does sound a bit odd though, there must be a "resend my password" button somewhere?

FellatioNelson · 13/09/2010 19:25

OK, panic over - it's let me back on with my usual name. I don't know what that was all about.Confused
