Have noticed this lately - and ToadintheHole, I'm going to apologise straight off, because you've just done it to my name, but it's not an attack on you, it's been bugging me for days - lots of @username when addressing someone.

Now, I'm assuming that this has some technical necessity on Twitter (don't touch the stuff, myself), but what's wrong with just username, without the @. If you say my name, I know you're addressing me. I really do.

I personally don't like my posts to address anyone specific, i.e. putting their names ahead of my comments. It seems a bit, hey, hey over here, to me.

It is like addressing someone in real life not just by saying "Henry ..." but by saying: "Henry!(By saying your name I mean to address you) ..."

I just wasted 60 seconds of my life trying to decode something barely punctuated you can't imagine how confusing that is when people start slinging in their own vernacular it fucks us all about a superfluous @ makes me wonder does that person know this isn't twitter or are they going to c&p their post to twitter and that's what it's all about

TLD, this is mild... Besides, it's not like those darned twitterers are going to take a blind bit of notice. Too many words, and all that.

I wonder how many MNer / Tweeters just read the first line of a thread before moving on.

Twitter is a place where you say things that didn't need to be said, in fewer characters than they need for saying them. Fun though.

I just went and logged in(made an account ages ago) and posted that I was trying to remember what twitter is all about, then found djmoyles and allowed some people to follow me, took 5 mins

I don't say anything to anyone. I follow others that have things I'm interested in, news websites, sports people, world leaders, etc. As it's immediate, I often don't need to visit the news websites.

Twitter is fun as you can say something that you wouldn't start a thread about but is quite funny. And you can chat. It's quite fast moving sometimes.

It would be great if we could highlight the posters name by using the @. It would be bloody marvellous if all posts were 140 or less :o
