Tea Room the Fifteenth - The Viking Hall

Here we are in the 15th instalment of the Tea Room for the One Child Family board. All are welcome, whether parents of a single splendid offspring or any other number.
We are this time in a Viking Long Hall tearoom, complete with optional helmets, roaring log fires (in case of chilly spring evenings), rugs aplenty, and all the usual mod cons of life as well.
Our Viking tea room contains Mellors the gardener/handyperson with a talent for relaxing massage (amongst a variety of other characters including Bishops, camels, bison, horses, guinea pigs, dogs, etc etc for reasons that would take too long to explain but you're welcome to read the other Tea Room threads and prepare to have your mind thoroughly boggled). Plenty of tea/coffee/cake/virtual bolly always on offer.
Join us, relax, chat, enjoy.

no, don't you bugger orf again! Just wander in occasionally...

mistlethrush · 05/05/2010 08:33

SBoF - just stick around here and pop in when you feel like it. Provides opportunity to have a natter, rant and indulge in the goodies and the occasional massage from Mellors... BTW, has anyone seen him recently, or is he STILL in the priest hole giving Amber a shoulder rub???

I have a LONG list of work things to do, and similarly a LONG list of things to do at home - including getting ready for mistlechick's party (over a month past his actual birthday party ) on Saturday. Changed my mind which cake from the book I'm going to do - will do the dinosaur I think...

drivingmisscrazy · 05/05/2010 09:05

problem with your theory thumb is that as a consequence of some eating issues when I was young I haven't weighed myself in a very long time - so I don't know what I weighed when I was in good shape (about 2 years ago, was running a lot, probably about 9st??).

Hope doc is personable and helpful (a not so subtle little nudge). Going to go for a run in the rain

drivingmisscrazy · 05/05/2010 09:12

also, just to get you all to look on the bright side (of life, di dah, di dah di dah di dah) there's this

and how do they mess up the hokey cokey in oz then?

in a strange mood this morning , best go out in the rain

thumbwitch · 05/05/2010 09:16

I went to the doc - I phoned this a.m. and asked if I had to see my registered GP or could I see anyone - they said anyone - I said do you have any female GPs? they said - we have a new one who started yesterday so her appts are fairly clear . So I got to see her this p.m. - she was very nice (not straight out of college like I was worried she might be, just new to the area, been in practice 28y).

Lovely lady - felt around and, given that I had only stopped bf'ing last Nov and then had a MC in Dec, she reckons it's just "active" tissue from that. No suspicious lumps, just lumpy tissue, including milk ducts. So she's sending my blood for a prolactin test and also LH and FSH to see if I'm ovulating; which is actually quite useful!

I like her A Lot.

So thank you for all your nudges and tellings - so far it seems as though there is nothing to really worry about.

amberlight · 05/05/2010 09:28

Yay, TW!!!!!!

Morning all. I'm still hiding in the priest hole but in not quite as desperate and flapping sort of way, which is good. Have managed to set up the teas for those in need.

I'm definitely not 9st, though I was twice

Amber, you are NOT 18 stone! . Glad you are feeling a little better, is there anything we can tempt you with, from the banqueting table?

amberlight · 05/05/2010 11:01

Perhaps a hunk of venison* and some mead?

*vegetarian varieties available, of course

OP posts:
AandO · 05/05/2010 11:17

Thanks Amber, hmmm, veggie venison is certainly interesting ! Glad you're feeling happier today.

Thumb - Well done, that must be a weight off your mind.

Mary - That would be a big step alright. Hopefully it will all blow over. Afterall it's only occured very recently, and could turn out to be just a small falling out. But if it continues long term I'd definately recommend moving schools.

DMC - I know, I have no idea why she suddenly turned against me! The name stuck though, and I was supposedly the class lesbian until I finished school at 18 - not a good thing in rural Ireland in the 80's, at which point it was even illegal to be gay . When I was in my twenties I then kissed a girl right in front of her at a local club just out of a kind of screw you I don't care what you say kind of attitude !! Well, that was one of the reasons anyway !

Have a sore throat and have been un

AandO · 05/05/2010 11:20

opps, pressed post before I finished.

I was going to say, I have been unable to speak since sunday. I have a steering committee meeting tomorrow and will have to give a presentation and speak for about an hour!!

Small bunch - why would you take a mn break? I don't get it.

amberlight · 05/05/2010 11:30

Do what I do - gesticulate and use a lot of scribblings on the board.

DS had his drama A level performance exam yesterday. They did a horror script which frightened the proverbial life out of the examiner, audience and assembled parents. Must have been good! But I've never had to supply two mirrors, some swimming goggles, a vase, a bath, fake blood and a bunch of roses before. Whatever will they ask for when it gets to their final one next year?!

OP posts:
AandO · 05/05/2010 11:32

You supplied a bath?

amberlight · 05/05/2010 12:22

Er, we did, yes

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 05/05/2010 13:30

Am "Wow!" at the props you had to supply amber, and really really wish we had access to see the performance, it sounds wild!

A&O - hope your voice recovers soon, I hate not being able to talk. Although I can type like a demon now after all this practice on MN

drivingmisscrazy · 05/05/2010 14:20

thumb glad to hear your news - sounds like a good GP - hold on to her, as they're rare enough. Got to go and supervise exam (held in cattle shed, I kid you not)

oxeye · 05/05/2010 15:29

Sorry to confuse you amber
glad things are breast better thumb
dmc we had lots of problem with ds and pooing. Old tea roomers may remeber. Our dc witheld for ages. Ended up on meds. IF she chooses not to poo tis very tricky. I woulde contemplate low grade laxative. There's lots of stuff on general hedlth. I knew nothing until mnetters told me
I don't like hope. Everyone kept saying "just keep believing and hoping" when we were ttc. Frankly some bloody healthy eggs would have been a darn sight more helpful

amberlight · 05/05/2010 15:35

DMC, you're in a cattle shed??!

Oxeye, I'm always confused. Never a need to apologise. I check because my brain is silly, not because people have done anything wrong

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 05/05/2010 15:35

Sorry DMC - must have cross posted with you a while back there, have just seen you asked about them messung up the hokey cokey - here you go:

You put your left leg in
You put your left leg out
YOu put your left leg in
And you shake it all about
You do the hokey Pokey and you turn about
And that's what it's all about

Oh the hokey pokey x 3
That's what it's all about.

Crap! You lose the "in out in out and shake it all about" which is so much fun, especially when drunk slightly inebriated; and there's no "knees bend, arms stretch, rah rah rah!"

To say nothing of the "pokey" bit. Oh well.

drivingmisscrazy · 05/05/2010 16:51

amber - yes - exams are held in the showgrounds where the horseshows are on, and so in vast sheds, which often whiff vaguely of horse poo...but such things would not put off the doughty habitueés of the Tea Room, donki would love it)

CMOTdibbler · 05/05/2010 17:19

Glad to hear the news Thumb

at the horseshow shed exams DMC. At the uni I went to, the exams were in all sorts of places, including the Health ministry building (the Temple of Health and Peace actually), but none that fragrant.

Today is the day my first baby was due - they'd be 5. I suppose I think of them the most as we were so excited, and thought about them so much in the 11 weeks or so we knew about them. Ho hum

Back to work - fortunatly the location isn't as sunny as it should be at this time of year, so being stuck inside all day isn't as bad

Scout19075 · 05/05/2010 18:53

Can the Vikings be at the ready in case I can't fly tomorrow they can row me across the Atlantic?

DontCallMeBaby · 05/05/2010 19:29

I'm considering a namechange to DontCallMeDave for the election, to divorce myself from my Cameron-esque first two initials, but I fear I would get too attached to it and not change back.

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 05/05/2010 19:35

Probably best not to sample them all at once, though.

UniS · 05/05/2010 20:25

Unis samples all teh snacks on the table at once.. an enjoys herself hugely. Its the marsh mellows , they sort of drown out all teh saltyness, so you get a crunchy sweet with a hint of blackpepper gooey lovelyness. trust me, I've tried, so you dont have to.

just tried watching channel 4 OD on teh netbook, but the browser is too old.... and it won't work. boring.

ought to get on with some typing up of notes... I don;t need interweb for that so can use a proper keyboard...

Doing the hockey pokey with out shaking it ll about is just wrong. you are correct, the Ausi's have it wrong.

drivingmisscrazy · 05/05/2010 20:43

I wondered what happened to the knees bend, arms stretch rah rah rah bit - we sing it at Mainly Music (see previous tea room for discussion) - but MM is from NZ I think so it must be an antipodean thing. The songs are all a bit anaemic for DD who likes a good beat to sway and bop to (think Scissor Sisters), but also has a fondness for Michael Flatley and all kinds of traditional Irish music, except for the really waily ones...DP's worst fear is that DD will want to take up Irish dancing. It's not looking good...

RIght, have dispatched timetable, now onto School Executive committee minutes. FOr this I spent 10 years in higher education??
