Tea Room the Fifteenth - The Viking Hall

Here we are in the 15th instalment of the Tea Room for the One Child Family board. All are welcome, whether parents of a single splendid offspring or any other number.
We are this time in a Viking Long Hall tearoom, complete with optional helmets, roaring log fires (in case of chilly spring evenings), rugs aplenty, and all the usual mod cons of life as well.
Our Viking tea room contains Mellors the gardener/handyperson with a talent for relaxing massage (amongst a variety of other characters including Bishops, camels, bison, horses, guinea pigs, dogs, etc etc for reasons that would take too long to explain but you're welcome to read the other Tea Room threads and prepare to have your mind thoroughly boggled). Plenty of tea/coffee/cake/virtual bolly always on offer.
Join us, relax, chat, enjoy.

Can't vent, so will have to flap and rock a bit instead if that's quite alright with people for a while, but thank you

thumb - first thing, right? all will be well; amber flap and rock away-

Thumb - Someone else here supergluing the phone to your hand. You must get it checked out and quickly. Whether it's something malign or (much more likely) harmless, the sooner you act the sooner you know.

Drivingmisscrazy - I see nothing wrong with hope, as long as you don't transform it into a certainty in your mind!

Amber - I think the bishops have seen you flapping and rocking. Look - they're lined up on the lawn, copying your moves in Strictly Come Dancing Bishops.

OK, tomorrow, I will go down to the surgery (it's not far) and see about an appt with a nice, pref lady, doc. Promise.

Yes, one of us is! Or, to paraphrase Spartacus, maybe all of us are??

Yes, go and get lump/pain checked.

Oh my goodness me, I see what you mean about the Bishops

If its any comfort Amber, I hadn't twigged about the Daisy connection either . I'm also lousy at noticing as to whether people are missing or not .

Oh well, better get back to the sick kids... before I go, I DID find some footage of the dancing bishops...

Oh and thumb, DO get it checked. I get intermittent breast pain, and have some "thickening" in the tissue, but I've had it checked and it was clear. Dr was fine about it, he'd rather I was seen and there was nothing to worry about, rather than NOT seen and leaving something to develop...

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 04/05/2010 17:17

Wow. There's some very nifty footwork there.

Report
mistlethrush · 04/05/2010 18:27

That makes me think of the scene in church in The Blues Brothers...

DMC - have you tried things like dried apricots and prunes - mistlechick liked eating that sort of thing - not that we ever had that sort of problem... sometimes verging on the opposite but I put that down to large quantities of veg and fruit in diet...

Report
drivingmisscrazy · 04/05/2010 18:42

mistlethrush - I have - and she does eat tons of fruit and veg (some people are telling me too much fibre is a Bad Thing ), and dried apricots (although they are apparently terrible for their teeth), lots of water. It's a total mystery really as her diet is very good (at least I think so). It's very distressing really. Just started her on prune juice, which she likes - but now worrying that I have given her too much of it. A mother's life, eh?

Oh thanks thumb, I had also been wondering about Daisy!! Also, where is Tea lately?

Report

Oh that's weird I seem to have missed a whole page!! I'll read it now!

I don't think Tea is here under an assumed name, unless of course one of you is going to claim otherwise ...

Report
drivingmisscrazy · 04/05/2010 19:37

didn't tea slope off to MN rehab? or have I confused her with someone else? Entirely possible - it's hard to keep up even before folks keep changing their names . Maybe a roll call would be in order (just picking up on the St Trinian's theme - although that could hardly be relied upon )?

DD had HUGE meltdown at dinner - alternately demanding her big orange orangutan (gift from uncle, loves it more than life itself...aaargh) and to be put back in highchair. Turns out she was just zonked and wanted to go to bed, poor little girl.

Report
drivingmisscrazy · 04/05/2010 19:38

oh, and before I go off to make my dinner, there's a pic of me and DD on my newly created profile...

Report
AandO · 04/05/2010 19:53

Love the pic dmc! A roll call is a good idea, well...I'm here!

Go to the doctors Thumb!

Sorry to hear things aren't going well at work Amber.

Mary - Sorry I have no advice about your dd but I do sympathise. As a 9 my best friend at the time was in a car crash, spent sometime in hospital and then came out and told me and my class that I was a lesbian, que (sp?) loss of all friends. It is very hard. If it continues would she be able to move schools? If it is an ongoing issue I don't think that step is too drastic.

blimey A and O what a cow! can you tell that I am really supposed to be doing something else entirely: take your pick of (1) cleaning house - ugh (2) grading student essays (double ugh) or (3) compiling list of dept's timetabling needs for 2010-11 (need a viking style expletive for that one!)

Think I will tackle essays. DP at evening class.

We'd have to move school AND church, AandO, I like to think we could resolve it before it got to that stage...

Am now feeling under the weather myself... argh!

I suppose I'd better stick a hoof into the air for roll-call!

I hope that work stuff gets sorted out Amber - you sound miserable. Besides, the Bishops dancing is quite scary...

I hope that you all enjoyed the bank holiday weekend.

I am going to go and hide in my hay pile, stick my fingers in my ears and hope that some things I'd rather not deal with go away...

UniS · 04/05/2010 21:41

yo all. wow, I'd never seen bishops doing formation flapping and rocking before... if they were RC bishops they could have done teh hokey cokey. I hadn;t been told before this weekend that apparently " the hokey cokey" is a piss take of catholic worship genuflecting. amazing what you learn at a kids birthday part.

jobs list is slightly shorter than it was this morning... which is good. i can think f several new jobs needing to go on it tho, which is not so good,

Unis brings to teh table, and a vast long table it is of epic proportions, honey cake, BBQed ribs, apple brandy and a fine quaffable ale. feel free to lob the bones over your shoulders, the hairy dogs will polish off the scraps..

UniS that all sounds yummy. I am on a quasi-diet - googled to find my idea weight today and found a range of about 35lbs between different websites! But I can still conclude that I need to lose about 10lbs...

Report
thumbwitch · 04/05/2010 23:24

DMC - I find the best way to know your ideal weight is to remember when you last felt good/comfortable and aim for that. FOr me, that is about 9 1/2 stone (a loooong time ago) so I need to lose a stone. Still haven't managed to shift it.
Now - off you go and do some marking or something (a job I found loathsome as well, I have to say)

I will go to the gp this morning to make an appt.

UniS - that is interesting! Mind you I hate it here because they call it the hokey pokey and sing it all wrong.

Donk - hope things are ok?

I stand by my belief that children are little sods when they get to school age - A&O, that is so bloody horrible of your friend. (It's "cue", btw)

I wasn't aware that tea was on a sabbatical - I thought that was Smallbunch's (failed) attempt? Can I nickname you Posy, Smallbunch?

Yes, I got sucked back in by a spate of threads where my professional expertise (such as it is ) was called for. But I am trying to leave it all. Maybe I'll check myself into the MN State Home for the Bewildered again soon. Hitting the deregister button is liberating. I can recommend it.
