A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

Heh, don't forget me, I'm still the cutest!

daisy99divine · 05/02/2009 15:58

I should have a Beatrix Potter moment to name the berkshires, but I can't!

In keeping with our location, I, Pinky am a (slightly older than average prima gravida) sow. Also in keeping with our location, my one treasured offspring, Perky is whatever gender you choose him/her to be.

daisy99divine · 05/02/2009 16:42

all the talk of time rips and space continuums makes me think of Lyra and Will and the Dark Materials trilogy

have you ever done that game "give someone a daemon"? Kept me and a mate happy at work for a VERY long time!

OP posts:
Catitainahatita · 05/02/2009 16:57

Mrs Doris Curlytail and Miss Dorothy Oinkers seem like names that might go with Berkshire pigs

mistlethrush · 05/02/2009 17:12

Pray enlighten us Daisy!

thumbwitch · 05/02/2009 17:49

my daemon is an ocelot, iirc. I did it on line. Well cool.

I used to live in Oxford so loved the Dark Materials trilogy, although I thought he lost his way a teeny bit in the 3rd one.

I think Daisy's game is more likely to be "what sort of animal would he/she have for their daemon based on what I know about them" - bet there were a few cats and pigs!

Some people just want to have an argument and whatever you say is wrong (PS not at this thread at all. Sorry, nearly posted a message on another thread, but I thought that would be stooping too low )

Catitainahatita · 05/02/2009 18:50

Sounds very challenging Justa.

I'll shall have a wee look into this lady this evening when no supposed to be working...

Donk · 05/02/2009 20:10

Oh no! My Parsnip soup has gone cold...
I wandered off and did not come back

Racingsnake · 05/02/2009 20:51

Pigs! How wonderful!I hate wasting food.

Daisy, I am niw even moe intigued about what you do, if you don't wish to say in case you are identified. Something high profile where there aren't many of you, obviously. A minor royal???

Catitainahatita, took me ages to work out your name! Gatitoenunsobrerito would work too, wouldn't it? That Prevert poem was so sad and so very very familiar.

Bocca, great floor! Holds door to RL house wide in a hopeful and enticing manner, just happens to have a mop handy ...

I have been looking after the 5-year old of a close friend who is having problems with her new baby and becoming more and more certain of the advatages of only having one!

How anyone can see it as selfish only to have one really astonishes me. THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. Or hasn't anyone spotted that?

I loved the Clangers, the Magic Roundabout, Pogles Wood, Blue Peter, Noggin the Nog, the Singing Ringing Tree, etc. In case anyone is interested. (Of course, I was obviously very very young at the time.) I definitely remember watching black and white and knowing what colour things were. And the shock of seeing Bagpuss was pink!!

Racingsnake · 05/02/2009 21:10

And if you want emotion, listen to this. If you speak German, it will make you cry, too. Always makes me cry.

Racingsnake · 05/02/2009 21:13

Or what about this!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/02/2009 21:17

Any chance of a drink?

thumbwitch · 05/02/2009 21:17

waaah! my 14mo is now in his cot, wailing his heart out - he was asleep when I took him up but the minute he touched the cot mattress he woke up and started crying. After last night I thought no - I'm not doing this again, so he's left up there to see if he'll settle down (never has done before)

Pass the alcohol - so long as it isn't gin or tequila, I don't mind what it is

teafortwo · 05/02/2009 21:32

madbadanddangeroustoknow - I have been reading your post on another thread... you are neither mad or bad or dangerous to know... in-fact you are a smasher!

teafortwo · 05/02/2009 21:34

thumbwitch - you are a braver woman than I!!!

Racingsnake · 05/02/2009 21:35

MadBad - if I may be so bold as to call you that when we have never actually met in person - how did you get out? I mean, of course, a drink, a drink ... .. You look so like your picture in the gilt frame above the counter .. well, you would, wouldn't you?

Here, talk to a bishop for a moment; there's bound to be one about, always is nowadays ... Thumbwitch, take the bottle and look after the tea room for a moment - I think I just heard your baby ...

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/02/2009 21:36

Aww shucks. I had heard you ladies were very hospitable. Did you mention champagne?

UniS · 05/02/2009 21:41

I think the days parsnip theme may have been picked up by Mellors and his topary concoctions.
WHAt IS berkshire broth- I lived in Reading for 4 years and I've never heard of it. My favourite food memory of Berkshire is chesey garlic bread from the Iguana Cafe.

Boy is an only by choice. He came along after after a miscarriage, and had a difficult birth, I don;t want to go through all that again, and I'm quite happy with just boy, we can do some stuff with one child we couldn't do with more.

Justa- How do you do it. I clearly have a very boring posting technicue. I seldem get shouted at- only once or twice for admiting that I didn;t think it outragous to tell someone elses child to clear off and stop messing around.

TW- are Oseoloets those werid not quite newt things that appear to be grinning teh whole time??
Amber-Apologies, its not that I know YOU too well. I just know a lot of geeks, one or two known aspies, a few that might fit the DX and currently 1 but formerly several full on Autists. My DHs work place seem to collect them, as do one of my hobbies and I nearly ended up working in an ASD school after a year of volunteering*. I try and be ASD aware but I'm sure i frequently screw up.

  • I sort of screwed up in the 6th form and ended up with such a lite timetable I was informed I HAD to do some volunteering, chose to be a classroom extra pair of hands at small ASD school linked to my MS school. Partly coz I only narrowly avoided being sent there myself at 11...
thumbwitch · 05/02/2009 21:43

ohhhh, thanks for that - he has finally stopped - I thought he stopped 5 mins ago but then he had a small 20 seconder, but now it's been quiet for a few mins so fingeres crossed!

cmotdibbler · 05/02/2009 21:46

Go Madbad, Go Madbad !

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 05/02/2009 21:46

How kind of you to remember me, racingsnake.

I haven't been let out, as you put it. Having had several months' intensive rehabilitative therapy in the MN State Home for the Bewildered follwing my little mishap just after the tea room opened, I have been able to discharge myself as an in-patient, although I am still receiving out-patient treatment from time to time.

UniS · 05/02/2009 21:50

Hello MBDTK .
I'm unis, don;t think we've met before. Welcome ( back?) to teh tea room. can I pass you a bisciut.
