A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

Donk · 15/02/2009 20:07

Ooh, I'll have mulled wine please

Carrots anyone?

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 15/02/2009 20:10

How are you, Donk? Is yours the only house free of plague and lurgy?

cmotdibbler · 15/02/2009 20:13

Oh dear RS - even worse ? Have some virtual hugs and a hipflask to sustain you.

DS and I went to a birthday party this afternoon - much better than the last one as someone actually talked to me. I did get the 'oh well, its much easier when you only have the one' comment

Off to the US tomorrow for a few days. I may have major thoughts of violence towards my bosses boss during this..

UniS · 15/02/2009 20:19

mind you CMOT - they may have a point- somethings ARE easier with one and thats one of the great things about having one. remembering that all these things would be EVEN harder with 2 or more. Imagine listening to 2 of them whining at once.

Donk · 15/02/2009 20:23

THanks TMDB, needed that.
No lurgy here so far (Donk crosses ears in lieu of fingers, since hooves present certain challenges for some things...)

cmotdibbler · 15/02/2009 20:31

Oh, no doubt that things are much harder to manage with more than one child. It was the tone really.

We too are lurgy less and hope to keep it that way

daisy99divine · 15/02/2009 21:59

Hello all! Daisy wafts in with some lovely healing and full of joy vibes!
we are lurgy free and very happy so I come to share it with you all lovely tea people (not in a gloaty way but in a rub up against me and feel the love sort of way)

Racing, I am so sorry about RR. Not sure about the connection thing. Firstly, when my gerbil died, I asked where it was and my mum (with a fetching line in sarcasm) said "I have left it in it's cage tied up with a red ribbon" so I went to the cage. The absence was the worst bit of all

Also, my friend's 3 year old shocked most people by saying "Daddy died today, and so did Ella the pig" which was true but many thought was not quite the order of things.... so I think things get weirdly connected but not connected iyswim

our lovely DaisyHound died when DaisyBoy was 18 months (I know, I have used the magic of the tea room to keep him around a little longer, but in RL he is sadly absent ) we told DaisyBoy he had gone up to the sky and wouldn't come back again, and he seems to understand, but I think death is rather hard really and connections that we think are made in a traumatic way are often just made in a curious way... I suspect the very fact that RR is gone but RH is still around may provide Wriggle with the answer?

Sorry, this was not the cheery post it was aimed at being...

Champagne, Daisy?

daisy99divine · 15/02/2009 22:09

Ah, MadBad I think I'll have the Mulled Winde thanks!!!

Ok, better attempt at being chirpy - it is certainly going to be spring soon - we went walking today and found tons of snowdrops, loads of aconites and daffodils and bluebells almost through

how are you Madbad?

OP posts:
TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 15/02/2009 22:13

I am well. Had date with MadBadMan for Valentine's Day. Have boughts lots of stuff for garden and am looking forward to some hardcore gardening during half term!

How are you, Daisy?

daisy99divine · 15/02/2009 22:16

Very well. We had a tea date with DaisyBoy and his friend. Joked with parents it was the sum of Valentine, I took them chocolates, deeply expensive mistake!

DaisyMan and I watched a rom com DVD -well I watched and he snored at least there were no guns and no monsters!

what happened on your date?

OP posts:
daisy99divine · 15/02/2009 22:17

I mean what happened as in where did you go/ what did you wear/ what did you eat etc

not as in did you hold hands/ did you get past first base
obviously....

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 15/02/2009 22:18

We went to posh hotel.

UniS · 15/02/2009 22:42

well I never- dh is volunteeringto go into work early for a couple of hours and then come home for my going to work time (8.30) and stay home with boy tomorrow!!!!!! I'm not convinced all the spots are scabbed over and am unsure boy will cope with a day at nursery as he is still melting down mid afternoon.

Will await with interest what time dh gets up in am...

daisy99divine · 15/02/2009 23:03

woo hoo! UniS

Woohoo?!
(To quote Lenier on B5)

TrulyMadBadandDeeply · 15/02/2009 23:19

Err, I think it is! (Round here anyway )

Donk · 15/02/2009 23:24

Oh well - I'm not going to try and explain it, 'cos it would take too long and no one would want to know anyway!

daisy99divine · 15/02/2009 23:37

Don't worry Donk
have a carrot!

Our three main weapons are fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope muffins.

UniS · 16/02/2009 07:44

Woohoo indeed. he did it. up at 4.30ish i think. expected home by 8.30 ! he will of course be in a filthy mood by this evening coz he'll be tired.

Fingers crossed freecycle people all show up at times they said, so dh does not have to deal with them. Theoretically 3 things being picked up today, never had 100% pick up rate tho so may still have to do tip run tomorrow.

righto, breakfast. maybe a lewd roll and marmalade. carrot for donk, lettuce leaf for RP. virtual bone for dasiy hound and mistle hound. tea for all. bromide in mellor's. extra caffeine in Ambers. NO caffeine in some of teh others. hand made by potters mugs ( or buckets) all round.

mistlethrush · 16/02/2009 09:06

Morning all - I've made a pot of tea and some cinamon toast, particularly for those who have illness/lack of central heating etc.

RS - sorry to hear about RR - what's been the outcome - have you broken it to WS? Every now and then ds comes out with 'I don't want to die' - which is greated by either 'I don't want you to die either - but you won't die for a long time' or 'that's why I want you to be really careful and not get squished by a car or lorry, so do hold my hand when we are in car parks or close to the busy roads won't you...' depending upon recent circumstances/behaviour

MiL staying. WHEN will she work out that if I say MJ needs a sheet, a blanket and his thin quilt on top, that is ALL he needs. He doesn't need his duvet on top as he gets too hot. He doesnt' need ANOTHER blanket taken out of the cupboard and put on the bed. If he needed another blanket I would have put it on. If he does have extra blankets/quilts he wakes up thirsty because he is wet with sweat... (at the moment we 'lift' him when we go to bed and on MiL staying days its normally a damp child that gets lifted and then demands a drink of water...)

Its not yet too spring like up here - the birds think its going to be spring soon (song) and there are some snowdrops up - but our witch hazel has only just got into full flower, and the daffs have broken through but got no further than that.

Racingsnake · 16/02/2009 11:20

Good morning everyone! Much more cheerful and to celebrate have made batch of drop scones with raisins. Suitable for all including donkeys.

Thank you for nice hip flasks, reassuring forehead rubs etc. Thumb, I have turned round many many times. Feel slightly dizzy, but luckier. Could maybe have generated some positive energy, like a dynamo?

Daisy, I am sure that DaisyHound is with us in the tea room. Maybe RacingRabbit is in the garden. Hadn't thought of that.

WS seems to have accepted RR's going AWOL, although we just had floods of tears at the feed merchants (I thought of you, CMOT), partly due to my refusal to buy rabbit food, but also partly due to the nice lady who stopped WS dropping a case of cat tins on her feet, when apparently that was exactly what she wanted to do. I was miles away, gazing at sacks of dog food, wondering which was cheapest, or whether dog could be persuaded to forage for herself. Not likely, she's a border collie X; they are not dogs with a great sense of initiative, I fear.

WS cried and cried. The 16-year-old boy serving tried to cheer her up by giving her a cuddly dog, which she decided was just another part of the dastardly plot, making her scream and howl. I felt that any 16-year old trying to engage with a 2-year old should be encouraged, so I lied and said she told me in French she loved it.

Now have parked WS, my very long Pinocchio nose and rejected fluffy dog in front of DVD (not the kind of mother I ever imagined being!) and was thinking what it would be like with two, three or even four of them all producing that same performance. Doesn't bear thinking of!

Purbeck is lovely, Uni, especially Kimmeridge Bay, my favourite seaside place in the world.

daisy99divine · 16/02/2009 11:58

morning all!
top baking efforts all round and a good start to the week!

Racing, your post made me laugh. especially encouraging the 16 year old, very important!

Mistle perhaps your MiL was an old Native Indian in a former life and is trying to introduce MJ to the sweat lodge? I bet he has top dreams while she's staying! whenever I ask DaisyBoy if he's been dreaming he says "yes, MUD!" which I suspect is entirely possible!

OOOOF!

Hello! Big test for dh tomorrow, so fingers crossed that they'll announce all is well rather than 'oh heck, operation'. DS is coping really well with all of this, bless him, and being very useful around the house/dog walking etc (wonderful when they get to a responsible age).
