A warm welcome to everyone, whether you have one child, none, or ten. This is a tea-and-muffin or booze-and-sofasorcanapees sanctuary for all. But certain standards of behaviour continue to apply - anyone engaging in fisticuffs will be ejected by George Clooney, ably assisted by Mellors the Gardener.

Cheers all!

Anyone in particular?

Zazen, we had that same tele! And it worked just as well as these fancy ones. In fact, better, arguably.

Batch of choccy cookies just made if there's interest?

mistlethrush · 05/02/2009 09:47

Zazen - the sofa's more squishy because you're sitting on Racingpig's end - in fact, has anyone seen Racingpig yet this morning - can you just get up a moment Zazen?

We watched snooker in black and white - and yet you still knew what colour the balls were. I also watched the Moomins (is that right?) in black and white - was quite shocked to find that they weren't the right colour when we did get colour eventually.

I did get to watch bagpuss and the clangers of course - and MJ is now enjoying the DVDs, as well as Ivor the Engine.

teafortwo · 05/02/2009 09:49

Hi Amber!

Those chocsta biccies are just great!

I was listening to Mr Bragg's 'In our Time' today it was on The Brother's Grimm and I was very excited to discover that originally Rapunzel gets pregnant! I wonder if she was, therefore, also a mner????

cmotdibbler · 05/02/2009 09:50

I was only allowed to watch BBC. And since we had jobs to do after school, that effectively meant about 30 minutes a day of TV too. My parents are currently on their 4th TV in 40 years of marriage, although they have branched out into Freeview. Which they both witter on about endlessly.

We have 20cm of snow - DS got bundled up in wellies and waterproofs and went out 'skiing' before nursery. The cats came too, but were very unimpressed with the snow.

boccadellaverita · 05/02/2009 09:55

Good morning one and all!

This nostalgia for children's TV - we were only allowed to watch the BBC - has reminded me that I've been meaning to buy this encyclopedia. I haven't yet bought BabyBocca any of the BBC classic DVDs - she is stunned to think that children's TV wasn't on tap for 12 hours a day.

I know little of Jacques Prevert except that every French town has a lycee named after him. Does he have a particular message for today's mother of one?

amber32002 · 05/02/2009 09:55

Ooo, you can put pictures on profiles! Mine's now bearing one of me and my rugby playing son, tiny little thing he that he is

I loved the Clangers, and Blue Peter of course.

teafortwo · 05/02/2009 10:06

Profile page... I am thiking of having one... but... am scared of 'outing' myself as not really looking like this...

ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

morning all!
am a bit late this morning but never mind.
Daisy, that Bullerby person is a bit heavyhanded - she upset another thread a few days ago, can't remember which as it's dropped off my "Threads I'm on" but I wouldn't pay too much mind to her.

Have you seen the new confused emoticon? BigTech has put a preview on it here - it's almost the last post on page 4.

daisy99divine · 05/02/2009 11:20

Hello lovely tea room

Sorry to have a wobble yesterday. Thanks for support. I think Bullerby only upset me because I was feeling wobbly and I thought the tea room was trying hard to include, as you so wisely said Bocca. I have tried to join old well established threads and it has slowly dawned on me they are a group of mates chatting which is fine but there is no place for me and what I like about here is we're not like that. But of course with our own particular brand of tea room ness we're not for everyone and never can be....

right
enough

TV deprivation - yes to only BBC. Blue Peter. Sometimes Magic Roundabout (remember I am 55). Bagpuss was too late for me (in terms of years not hours). I once managed to get the tele to ITV and saw a cartoon of Spiderman. I have always loved him since

Will CMOT and JM and Wesley in leather put the bishops off the tea room, or perhaps entice them to move in permanently?

I have not done photos or profile because too aware anyone can read this, but might try to do a private one for your eyes only - I think you can join mates... will try tonight

oh, on the snow front London has given up the ghost. It is black slush. Horrid.

DaisyBoy has been recalling his skiing from the New Year and is very happy and trotted off to nursery today like a little lamb, particuarly when he knew I was doing boring work!

did the honesty box make it in the move?

Racing I haven't confessed what I do because I think it might make me easier to track down... [paranoid emoticon]

Bocca I am amazed that your quality me time hoovering has not led you to the Tea Room yet!

I have just had a great idea. I shall move house ever 1000 days rather than clean. It works here... so it must be a plan, no?

Morning, Daisy!

You're not alone. I was upset too, out of all proportion to the matter itself! Anyway, that was yesterday. I had some experiences when I was new to MN which went like this:

Old [longstanding, not necessarily ancient] MNer: Chat, chat, chat

Old MNer: Chat, chat, chat

Old MNer: Chat, chat, chat

Bocca: Chat

Old MNer: What was that interruption? Chat, chat, chat.

Old MNer: Where were we? Chat, chat, chat.

I've heard it said that that doesn't happen any more, now that some people have tootled off to Moldies.

'Twas another thread but it was a very small and inconsequential thing (especially when contrasted with your own travails, justabout). It was probably a salutary lesson that - dare I say it? - MN is not real and one should not invest too much in it.

I think I saw your 'let's spread peace and joy' thread. Did it all kick off again? I'm curious about who would dissent from such a sentiment but really don't want to go and look.

Right, really must clean that floor.

Justa I don't know how you manage to be that invested with MN, frankly I like chatting here and don't venture out much further

although serious problems/ questions often meet with fantastic and helpful answers but a lot of the other sort of emotional management side of things well, I get enough of that elsewhere

Daisy settles down with hobnobs and coffee

Justa, as if you need any more stress in your life after recent events. I've re-done the bed in the priest hole for you if you need it. Have a cuppa. Have a bowl of soup to go with it. Looks like a Berkshire Vegetable Broth to me.

I've managed to get into work, so this officially counts as a tea break

teafortwo · 05/02/2009 12:06

Nods at Bocca's post - I too joined mn when it 'wasn't like it used to be 'and have a particularly bad, tries to put it politely... urm... "Go forth and multiply you closed minded, cliquey people" scar from the early days of the one child family topic!

I am truly shuddering thinking about it now! It cut me more deeply than that poster will ever know or perhaps ever meant to.

Funny ol' place this mn, hey?

amber32002 · 05/02/2009 12:12

Thank goodness for the tea room. You've no idea how much it's helped me this last couple of weeks.
