At this time of year New England is famous for its glorious foliage as billions of leaves change from green to a kaleidoscope of colours. The air is crisp and cool ? perfect for hiking, biking or a drive along back roads, where farm stands are piled high with crunchy apples and orange pumpkins.

Everyone is welcome. There are tea, cakes and wine aplenty so pull up a comfortable chair and join us.

The usual rule applies - no fisticuffs please!

I am crabby. It's best to steer clear of me today.

MaudTheGardenTheBlackBatNight · 28/10/2012 09:23

:: proffers hot buttered toast and the jam/spread of your choice::

Aww. It's tough that MrScout has to fly on Toddler's birthday, but it'll be fine really.

::Toast-crumby hugs::

Scout19075 · 28/10/2012 11:16

Thanks, Maud. It's not MrScout's leaving but my lack of quality sleep that has sent me over the edge.

MaudTheGardenTheBlackBatNight · 28/10/2012 11:49

I really do sympathise. I have insomnia and didn't get to sleep until 5am today. It is grim.

Scout19075 · 28/10/2012 17:11

Blimey, Maud. Sad

SmallBoy is brewing a cold which I think is what's played chaos with his body/bodyclock. He has fallen asleep on me or MrScout every day since Thursday. This afternoon he has taken to sneezing and whining and he has the look of someone who has the start of something.

Great, just what I need at my PiL, an unwell child. The end of illness isn't bad but the start of it.... Gah. Oh well.

SB handled Daddy's departure very well but just couldn't understand why he wasn't going on the airplane for lunch too. After all, that's what Mommy said "SB airplane for lunch with Grandmom too!" Believe me, SmallBoy, I wish we were going to see Grandmom today, too. Sad

YY to meeting in seattle. Lovley city and surroundings.

DH and I spent 2 weeks nearby at a sports event several ( like 10) years ago. We stayed here with a mass of other competiors for 10 days and then had a little R&R here Fond memories.

Its 4 minutes past 7, boy is IN bed. He had a super exciting day yesterday. He in the Carnival and was up very late. Their float was great. A little pirate ship. Also won the scarecrow competition. Hurrah for Bradley Twiggins.

beanandspud · 28/10/2012 19:22

I think I am a little bit in love with Bradley Twiggins [hwink] - he's fab!

MaudTheGardenTheBlackBatNight · 29/10/2012 09:07

Not really, Oxeye, it's just a symptom of being a lady of a certain age. Ahem.

::Hastily rustles up a breakfast dish of Bradley Twiglet Surprise::

I had a somewhat disturbed night last night - largely because we brought a dog home to 'foster' yesterday afternoon. She's been in kennels for 3 months and goodness knows where before that and certainly can't remember house training even if she ever was. She managed to hold it all in for 3 decent walks and goodness knows how long wandering round the garden (lots of times) yesterday evening but I had some clearing up to do at 12.30am - then the woofing started at 1.30am and when I went down she was in a right state - so I settled down on the sofa to see if I could settle her in the sitting room - where she settled herself on top of me. I decided a bit later that I had no hope of sleep like that - so we went upstairs (she beat me up and landed on DH) then had to fight her out of bed several times before she settled down on the duvet piece I'd put down beside the bed - where she stayed good as gold until the alarm went off.

DH has managed to truncate 2 wees in the house so far this morning - I hope we get this housetraining lark sorted out sooner rather than later!

Frankenstorm is battering friends and family. It is, perhaps, a good thing I didn't take SmallBoy home yesterday. Between the storm and his nasty cold staying in England was probably for the best. Still sad about not being there. The twisted part of me would like to be in that storm.

Scout19075 · 30/10/2012 19:23

I measured SmallBoy today (for the 3rd birthday old wives' tale thing). I am Shock at his height.

MaudTheGardenTheBlackBatNight · 30/10/2012 20:19

Tell us more, Scout.

Scout19075 · 30/10/2012 20:24

About what, Maud?

How are you?

MaudTheGardenTheBlackBatNight · 30/10/2012 20:26

About SmallBoy's height now and in adulthood!

Scout19075 · 30/10/2012 20:35

Oh. He's at approximately 39". If you take that and double it as per the wives tale that will make him 6'6".

I think the HV mis-measured him back at his 2 year check as he had been steadily jumping up percentiles for height and hovering around the 91st and she had him down around 50th. He refused to stand in the little measuring thing and when he did wasn't standing nicely, was looking around, etc. Everyone comments how tall he is for his age.

I know he's tall-ish but I don't see just how much because I see him every day, if you know what I mean, but he's been in size 3-4 or 4T (US size) clothes for months. It wasn't until my Mom made a comment about SmallBoy's birthday pictures and said she was guessing he was about 40" given where his head was in relation to the counters in the kitchen (she's been to my PiL before and knows how high the counters are).

MaudTheGardenTheBlackBatNight · 30/10/2012 20:46

Yes, but that's a guide, not an infallible rule. Even so, given how tall his daddy is, he's likely to be tall too, isn't he?

Scout19075 · 30/10/2012 21:02

Oh, I know. But still, even the thought of a 6'6" baby boy made me feel a bit weak at the knees with surprise.

Yes, MrScout is 6'5". SiL L is 6'. The twins are about 5'9"/10" (which considering they're twins is impressive). My MiL is tall. There are also some tall genes on my side though you wouldn't know it by me/my mom/my sister (though I'd be closer to 5'7"/8" if it weren't for the scoliosis).

MaudTheGardenTheBlackBatNight · 30/10/2012 21:12

He may turn out to be a short stuff at 6ft 4!

Scout19075 · 30/10/2012 21:33

Just the thought of a 6' baby makes me wibbly. He's my baby! Grin

MaudTheGardenTheBlackBatNight · 30/10/2012 21:40

And he still will be, even when he's looking down on you and patting the top of your head!

Scout19075 · 30/10/2012 21:47

Grin I expect that to happen by the time he's ten! LOL

MaudTheGardenTheBlackBatNight · 30/10/2012 21:59

Better buy some stilettos.

Scout19075 · 30/10/2012 22:07

Hehehehe.
