Episode 32 - The New Zealand tea room

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 14/01/2012 22:06

Well folks, here we are, beside the hot springs of New Zealand.

The tea room (with the customary distressed chintz sofa) overlooks the steaming, bubbling lake. For the bold and sporty, hiking, biking and sky-diving are on offer. Personally, I'm not planning to leave the spa.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink and conversation ranging from the profound to the profoundly silly. The cardinal rule remains: no fisticuffs.

If you have cake PrancingBuffalo, you are more than welcome.

I have a 5 yr old ds who is lovely, but nutty Grin

PrancingBuffalo · 29/02/2012 15:30

Hello CMOTDibbler - thank you. I ALWAYS have cake Grin. Working from home today, and just about to make one. Multi-tasking at its best.

What, you mean your DS isn't spoilt or lonely or selfish?!! >

CMOTDibbler · 29/02/2012 15:43

I'm homebased permanently, so never have cake else I eat it Smile

Maybe a little spoiled, but he's not bratty about it. But certainly not lonely.

Do you know what ? he doesn't even have any cousins close in age either. We are baaaad parents

PrancingBuffalo · 29/02/2012 16:13

One of my aunts had an only too - coming from a family of 13 herself, including my mum, she always says her son was really lucky to be an only, and he wasn't spoiled, he was loved. So if my boy is 'spoiled' because I can give him more of our time and resources, I am more than happy about that.

DS does have two cousins around his age, but we don't live very close to them, only see them a few times a year.

beanandspud · 29/02/2012 16:22

Can I have cake too please? Grin

Hello Prancing (can I call you that?). I have a DS who is 4. Welcome to the tearoom!

I will pop back later with the Wine...

PrancingBuffalo · 29/02/2012 16:42

Thanks for the welcome bean, and hello. Feel free to call me Prancing. Cake is out of the oven in 5 mins!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/02/2012 17:42

::wanders in::

Did someone mention cake?

Good to see you here, Prancing. Make yourself comfy on the distressed chintz sofa and have a Brew.

Lovely - thanks Maud (is it ok to call you Maud?).

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/02/2012 18:53

Yes, please do. Everybody does and I rather like it. I feel another name change coming on (I name change quite often as I have a low boredom threshold) but am torn, as I like being Maud.

Ooooohhhh, cake. TS has been challenging today, hence the comfort eating.

Hello Prancing!

UniS · 29/02/2012 19:03

ohh cake... excellent, don;t mind if I do. Thank you prancing. I'll apologise now for my inability to consistently spell teh word the.

My "unable to socialise normally" only is being chucked into teh bath ( by DH) to try and remove some of the grub and grime he has brought home from teh rec. First really nice warmish after school afternoon of spring and the rec was heaving by 3.45 . Boy managed to fall down teh slide and off teh iron ponys head... then settled down to playing "bombs and spys" with a bunch of other 4-6 yr olds.

PrancingBuffalo · 29/02/2012 19:10

Maud is a good name. Hello Scout and UniS!

Scout19075 · 29/02/2012 19:55

MrScout emailed and said some girl has proposed to her boyfriend over the tanory at Liverpool Street Station. Shock Blush

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/02/2012 20:22

How, um, courageous.

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 29/02/2012 20:32

That's one way to put it, Maud.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/02/2012 20:44

I was trying to be generous and kind and avoid the words excruciating and naff.

OP posts:
UniS · 29/02/2012 22:14

and you were generous and kind, well done, have a sticker .

any one for late night Brew and Biscuits .

If you look closely the NMBs are painting each other blue and fashion kilts from that tarten car rug that was on teh distressed sofa. Ithink they may be planning something for world book day. Hang on to your ships.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/02/2012 22:20

Well I was until I used the words excruciating and naff.

The Girl is going to school as Meggie from Inkheart as it doesn't need any special costume.

WineWineWine anyone?

Jacksmania · 01/03/2012 02:31

I have PMT-from-hell (sorry if TMI) and it makes me evil. I've already put my foot in it on another thread so I think I'm going to hide for a few days. I will be back. In general I'm feeling very frustrated and dissatisfied with MN, especially MNHQ for their ridiculous delete-anything-that-even-remotely-resembles-a-personal-attack such as calling a poster odd policy. I mean, it's not like I approve of posts like "fck off you cnt" unless the poster being called that really is being one, but seriously, "YABU and a little odd, actually a lot" got deleted?? Why??? I think the pendulum has swung a bit too far.

Anyway - I tend to see things through a red mist of rage during this lovely time so best not to MN when I feel that way.

Ill - be - back...

mistlethrush · 01/03/2012 09:33

That does sound OTT JM. (the deletion, not the comment)

I posted on a thread about kitchens a while back - about how our scruffy little fitted furniture manufacturer round here made something that was better and cheaper than the standard available - solid wood, made to measure and specific to your own design and requirements etc - and have since had a regular spattering of pms asking me for their details. Really should have worked out some commision with them as I've already recommended them to two friends and my paretns since we had our kitchen done in our last house. I still can't get passed the fact that our kitchen is now at least twice as big and yet the cupboards are significantly less effective.

Feels like the first day of spring here today. And I've been told that MC is not allowed to wear his shorts until the summer term - or his short-sleved shirts. Despite only wearing shorts and a Tshirt at home (and out on walks - I always end up carrying his coat).

Nice to meet you Prancing. What sort of cake is your speciality? I particularly like lemon drizzle. or a good gingerbread - slightly claggy... But I also tend not to have them in the house at home otherwise they get eaten.

Brew ?

Jacksmania · 01/03/2012 15:13

Cake?

(And what does "claggy" mean?)

CMOTDibbler · 01/03/2012 15:29

claggy is that sort of damp and dense, stick to the roof of your mouth sort of cake.

Have a big flask of mocha with whipped cream. And Galaxy with hazelnuts. Guaranteed PMT treatment.

We had a lot of fog this morning, but is lovely and sunny now

PrancingBuffalo · 01/03/2012 18:26

Oh no, I missed the wine. Jacksmania, we meet again (from the repairs thread). All cakes are a speciality - yesterday's was blueberry and lime. Claggy in a good way mistlethrush! MN can be a v strange place at times. I posted a food thread ages ago asking for gourmet veggie recipes as we were trying to cut down on meat. And I got told to get over myself for thinking that lentils aren't luxurious!! Hmm
