Episode 32 - The New Zealand tea room

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 14/01/2012 22:06

Well folks, here we are, beside the hot springs of New Zealand.

The tea room (with the customary distressed chintz sofa) overlooks the steaming, bubbling lake. For the bold and sporty, hiking, biking and sky-diving are on offer. Personally, I'm not planning to leave the spa.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink and conversation ranging from the profound to the profoundly silly. The cardinal rule remains: no fisticuffs.

I don't really know him - I found that one because of the Muppet connection!

He's not the best singer in the world but he just seems lovely.

Scout19075 · 27/02/2012 20:37

Do you think chocolate sprinkles count as chocolate?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/02/2012 20:46

Only if you want them to.

Evening all!

Just read the 'onlies' thread - goodness me - I may need a lie down...

Serpent - lovely to see you, your choir sounds fantastic (and, a bit of time each week just for you sounds like a very good thing)

Yay - to shorts-wearing boys!

Have had a lovely, chaotic weekend with a houseful of family and other friends staying over. It seems very quiet now and Small Bean loved all of the people and attention (but definitely not in a "demanding-attention-seeking-interrupting-only-child" way Grin).

I need an early night tonight, back later...

UniS · 27/02/2012 20:54

evening all.

Unis brings calorie free choc sprinkles for those that want such things? and full fat build ya up version for scout.

Fancy an ice cream sundae to go with them??

I'm having a wonder found teh folkier reaches of you tube at present. currently have on. not watching teh video, but all those feet do make an interesting rythum section.

Ought to go and wash up.... oh and iron... but have been wondering round teh website of my old high school marvelling at what a nice school it seems to be still be. the prospectus is organised under the headings " love, peace, joy, patience " etc .

Think it's going to take Toddler some time to get used to our new swimming day. After two years we're no longer swimming on Tuesdays and he woke up this morning talking about . Yes, we would normally see her today, Toddler, but not today we've changed our day to see her. (Was careful not to mention the S word otherwise there'd be talk about it all day and tears if we didn't do it.) Told him it was "haircut day" instead (which TS is finally getting his hair cut today it's way too long and in his eyes).

maxybrown · 28/02/2012 09:54

Hi, have popped in after beng on the only one thread! Thought I'd bring my one and only unsociable, spoilt, can't share, lonely for the rest of his life brat, over here Grin

CMOTDibbler · 28/02/2012 10:14

Grin welcome to the house of the improper mothers ! Have a Wine

Scout19075 · 28/02/2012 10:18

Hi maxybrown!!!

How old is your unsociable, spoilt, can't share, lonely only? Grin Toddler is 2.4 today (EEK!) and he's lovely.

Scout19075 · 28/02/2012 10:39

JM -- YOU ROCK!

Stupid postman, though, didn't even knock on my door just put a slip through. Toddler and I went out and made him stop to give me my package. I haven't opened it yet but I've very excited!

UniS · 28/02/2012 11:41

Hi Maxy.

morning all.
mice pie? Boy made them yesterday, rather good pastry I must say.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 28/02/2012 13:23

Hello Maxy! I'm glad someone accepted the invitation and wasn't deterred by our spoilt, over-indulged egotistical brats, running amok with no regard for anyone else!

I have to go out now and deal with various wrinklies-related situations but will see you later.

My mom has just decided to depress me with a countdown until Toddler's 3rd birthday. Sad

Scout19075 · 28/02/2012 16:31

Question for you (taking a survey): If you liked all things minty, liked a bit of a tipple (or three) and had a March birthday would you like a fancy bottle of homemade mint flavored vodka with some cocktail & recipe ideas to go with it? Or is mint too much of a Christmas flavor?

UniS · 28/02/2012 19:05

Assuming Mint vodka doesn't go off in a hurry... probably.

maxybrown · 28/02/2012 21:00

Hi! Sorry didn't leave as soon as walked in, but had such a hectic day!

DS is almost 4 and a half, time is whizzing away.

I had my friends 8 month old yesterday and she is gorgeous and good as gold, but I loved it afterwards when it was just me and DS again Grin

Mince pies sound good, love home made ones , ta Smile

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 28/02/2012 22:13

Hi again, Maxy. Would you like some Wine wine? Mellors, the incredibly handsome butler/handyman/factotum, has just got the Merlot out.

Jacksmania · 28/02/2012 23:32

Welcome Maxy!
I'm the TeaRoom's Canadian Content, I live on the West Coast of Canada (GMT-8) so post at odd hours, and this week, hardly at all b/c RL is stupidly busy --- just wanted to pop in, blow kisses all around (and a big :o and "you're welcome" to Scout) - here, have some Wine, see you all later!

mistlethrush · 29/02/2012 09:47

I've not found the 'onlies' thread - probably a good thing.

Hello Maxy! How old is your 'never be normal because no sibling' child? Mine's fairly soon to be 7 and has gone to world book day in shorts, shirt untucked and top button undone, DH's tie at half mast, blazer and cap - and has borrowed some of my socks so that they're baggy round the ankle. All the teachers worked it out immediately!

I'm afraid I have a mummy's boy. He's quite happy to spend the day with just me (actually cheers sometimes Blush) but clearly not happy if I'm out for the day - which to be fair doesn't happen that much. Although he was happy to go and spend the week with my parents with absolutely no fuss at all.

Reading has suddenly blossomed - he is now quite happy to read first thing in the morning before the alarm goes off. He seemed to be able to make sense of a really complicated plot on a talking book too - the Jaggerung that my parents borrowed from the library to play in the car.

beanandspud · 29/02/2012 11:57

Hi Maxy! I have a DS who is 4 (going on 40 at the moment Grin)

Small Bean is going to WBD tomorrow as the Cat in the Hat which is one of his favourites at the moment. I have started reading the My Naughty Little Sister stories to him (not sure if it is a little odd given that he is an only?!) which I loved as a child and he is enjoying them (and coping ok without 'proper' pictures). They are a little dated though and we had to explain what the coalman was all about!

MT - looking forward to seeing you too!

mistlethrush · 29/02/2012 12:02

Bean - definitely. I MUST RING THEM UP!!!!

I have raised the issue with MC in preparation - he would like UniS and Boy to be able to join us too Grin (so much for the lack of playing together and socialising!!!)

PrancingBuffalo · 29/02/2012 14:59

Hello, can I join you? I think I've just read some of the 'onlies' thread you're talking about, and got v cross about comments about being selfish and how only children are lonely, and you can always spot only children in groups. Total and utter bolleaux.

I have my gorgeous gorgeous 3.5 yo DS, never had and will never have plans to have another, and I'm very happy about it, as is DP and DS! (DP does have two older daughters, 8 and 12 years older than DS, and don't live with us, so in my eyes he's definitely an only.)

Can I stay if I bring cake?
