Tea room 22- A Farmhouse kitchen, anyone for a cuppa?

UniS · 24/01/2011 14:47

Welcome to the 22nd incarnation of the tea room. This time we are watching for spring from a cosy farmhouse kitchen. There is an aga for baking virtual cakes and an inglenook with toasty fire and settles to rest weary bones on. The distressed chintz sofa and footstool have arrived safe and sound and the priest hole is around here somewhere. On the Window sill is an aspidistra its pot surrounded by a hand holding circle of nearly naked mohawk babies, they have placards and a brazier.

Outside in the surrounding fields can be found the tea room horses, Earl and Lady Grey, also a herd of bison AND a Ha Ha to keep the bishops from invading.

Usual rules apply, no fisticuffs, if you want an argument go else where. Mellors the butler / game keeper will supply all sorts of things on request. Welcome Mums of one, none or many to the tea room of requirement.

Donki- how nice to see you.

Lucky this kitchen has lots of corners.

hummmm, not a good thing that FiL has just phoned for DH and was VERY brief when I said DH was out at pub, wants DH to phone him back. I suspect aged and slowly fading away GM may no longer be alive.

My GM is also very frail and currently in hospital after a fall. Her quick thinking GP arranged for her to have a brain scan while she was there, as she refused to go to hopital for one last week, scan was not good news , she has bleeding in brain and is too frail for an op to relieve pressure build up. Suspect shes not long for the world either.I had rather hoped she would just not wake up one day rather than go through the confusion and trauma of a hospital stay and decline.

I have offered to go up country, but Mum is adamant I shouldn't and should remember her as she was not as she is.

Sorry for Uni GPs. Maybe there are other ways you could support your mum if she really doesn't want you to go? (Slightly astonished to realise that some people's GPs must be the same age as AP. We have skipped a generation!)

Hello, Donki. Do help yourself to a carrot from the 'horse carrots' sack in the corner. At ChateauSerpent we never buy any other carrots and very good they are too. Smile

UniS · 24/01/2011 21:45

Both GMs are in their mid 90s. good innings and all that. Both are tough ole birds in their way.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 24/01/2011 22:06

Obviously some good genes there!

oxeye · 24/01/2011 22:45

Mary so sorry to hear your news, and UniS too
However, one should not worry in this tea room about tangental posting - it's what we specialise in ...

Right, now shufty up on the sofa I want to join the queue for Mellors

CMOT I've sent you a long and rambly email

Could anyone PM me about how to return to the Other Place? I am lost in space

Racing, I know you struggle with the Gifted Friend but if Racing Pig is hurt I shall come and lampe her sinceIdon'tcareafigaboutriding

and Wriggle is worth a Ton of Little Miss Fancy Pants Smile

oxeye · 24/01/2011 22:46

by the way. A Rude Man pushed me on the tube today. I wish I'd had a pint like Milk [bgrin]

UniS · 24/01/2011 22:48

did you push him back? or would that have caused a domino rally of commuters.

OP posts:
UnSerpentQuiCourt · 24/01/2011 22:59

Thank you for those kind words, Oxeye. Wriggle has had a wonderful afternoon of 5 mins on trampoline with me, 15 mins following me hoovering, screaming at the top of her voice (because she enjoys the noise). Not exactly designed to improve her intellectually, although she has suddenly realised that speaking three languages is Rather Clever (and I may have whispered to her that Gifted Friend can't do this.) Need Mellors to close the curtains and prepare a darkened room, with a cold compress for my temples.

RacingPig appears OK (albeit a bit twitchy).

How are things at OxTowers?

oxeye · 24/01/2011 23:03

couldn't quite contemplate domino rally of commuters - painful penguin pack effect!

OxTowers are settling nicely, I think. Basically I am sorting out childcare timetable (DH is working out what he can do and I am sorting out the rest [sigh]) and ticking over with all house chores, but it is a bit stretched and I've not been too busy yet this year, so all hell may break loose soon!

OxBoy is coping well with school but it is a big old shock to the system and he appears to be going down with his first School Infection judging for the coughing from his room [bsigh]

can't complain though, basically all is well, thanks

Jacksmama · 24/01/2011 23:10

Condolences to all who have had/may be having a loss :(

((((HUGS)))) to sick OxBoy. JB is stretched out on the couch beside me, napping. We have not left the house today and I am contemplating, without any great enthusiasm, a trip to the grocery store. The fridge is extremely bare. But I'm too chilled and sneezy to contemplate going outside. Tomorrow, for work, seems soon enough.

But I am hungry...

oxeye · 24/01/2011 23:19

Take away/ delivery?

Jacksmama · 24/01/2011 23:20

Hmmm... a curry would go down well...

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 25/01/2011 00:14

::totters in after another boozy intellectual night out with the girls::

Have I missed everyone? Or all you all in the queue for Mellors' healing hands?

::Scoffs Chelsea bun and heads off to bed::

Jacksmama · 25/01/2011 00:15

I'm still waiting for my curry...

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 25/01/2011 00:17

We know a great take-away that will bike it round to you. Reckon they could be with you in, oh, about six weeks if the moped holds out.

Jacksmama · 25/01/2011 00:20

Hmmm... thanks darling, but I believe I'll ring DH and ask him to pick some up from our neighbourhood one - I don't think I can wait six weeks :o

oxeye · 25/01/2011 00:35

love idea of poor curry chappy being given instructions to hike over to JM!

Techno twas it a yummy pushy mummy night out [bwink]

Catitainahatita · 25/01/2011 01:07

Hi all. I'm popping in to be on this thread. I'll be back.

amberlight · 25/01/2011 07:27

Unserpent, words fail re the mum and especially the dog - I would be horrified beyond belief if a dog of mine had behaved like that.

Morning all. I'm absolutely exhausted, having managed to Not Sleep nearly all night. I think I might curl up in a spare corner of the tea room and try to compose myself.

Tee2072 · 25/01/2011 08:22

Morning all.

Mellor's hands are magic. Not only did I sleep 10ish hours, LCT slept 12!! Anyone who is anti-co-sleeping should look back at 3 months ago before we really started when none of us were sleeping.

Feeling the need for something healthy today. Fresh cut fruit anyone? There's chocolate, sugar and melted marshmallow for dipping, if you're not feeling quite as healthy as me!

MyrrhyBS · 25/01/2011 09:19

A virtual tree sounds lovely, RIP Paul :(

As does a massage.

DS set off for school today a bit late. I then hear the noise of him coming back, and I thought something had happened. He wanted to give me a kiss, aw! (we live virtually next to the school so not far for him to go)

UniS · 25/01/2011 14:06

Afternoon all.

May I have a celebratory chelsea bun. I have done pretty much all my jobs list. Hurrah. Lots of lightfittings made better around house some have had low energy lamps fitted, some new lampholders or lampshades and one new switch.

Dh told Boy about great gran this morning, not sure quite who boy thinks is dead. But he did have a short wobble about not wanting to lose daddy.

I think I may use my unexpected hour to my self to read, practise piano or maybe take Earl Grey out for a canter over the moors. Its much less drizzly here at tea room than it is in RL.

OP posts:
UniS · 25/01/2011 14:07

Well I suppose I could manage a bit of fresh fruit dipped in chocolate sauce. Ta.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 25/01/2011 14:23

Afternoon. I need the Tea Room of Requirement to knock LCT into a nap, please. Not a hint of a closed eye all.day.long.

Aww, Mary, that's really sweet about your son.

::Tee gobbles all the fresh fruit after covering it with chocolate::

Yeah. Healthy...
