I was mates with the drummer from Young Disciples (Femi) and went out with the drummer from Freak Power (Turn on, Tune in, Drop out), so was quite into that whole scene. I used to love going to a night that Giles Peterson ran at the Fridge in Brixton - Talking Loud, that was great. Also used to go to the Wag, there was a night there that the Jazz dancers all used to go to.
DH who was a DJ used to run a Jazz night in Nottingham for several years from 95 to about 2001 and has added in Incognito, Urban Species, Push, James Taylor Quartet, The Sandals to list of bands although being a bit of a purist he claims that 'acid jazz' was a marketing idea, and really it was just funky soul music. He had Simon from the Brand New Heavies up to DJ - he was a really nice bloke.
Nice to remember this now I am old and married.

I used to listen to all of this when I was at college. I saw the Brand New Heavies once and Jamiroquai about 3 times in the end, they were always fantastic live.
