How can you find a song if you only know the tune and can't remember any lyrics at all?

I have tried and tried but all I can remember is the tune!

Absolutely no idea at all who it is by, or when it is from. Its a man singing, and I'd hazard a guess its 80s/90s.

How unhelpful is that

Very!!!

More info required

Where did you last hear it?

EachPeachPearMum · 21/11/2008 21:34

shazam

or mn!
what is the rhythm? Can you say when it goes up and down?

Spaceman · 21/11/2008 21:35

What does it go like?

AnarchyAunt · 21/11/2008 21:35

It was on Radio 4 years ago - I think it was the music at the start of the adaptation of Bad Mothers Handbook when it was the Book at Bedtime. Was BF DD at the time (hence early nights and Radio 4 in bed!), I remember that, so about 5 years ago.

It just keeps popping into my head when I see the book on the shelf and its driving me bonkers!

never tried songtapper.com

but might be worth a go

you tap out the tune. Bet it doesn't work though!

PortBlacksandResident · 21/11/2008 21:37

I've just googled "Bad mothers Handbook Radio 4" and got some 'listen again' options.

That might help?

notnowbernard · 21/11/2008 21:38

I can't help, sorry!

Good luck

TheGrillerPedant · 21/11/2008 21:41

i just went to songtapper and tried tapping out 'perfect day' by lou reed.

it suggested I was tapping out one of 8 songs including:
bohemian rhapsody
dancing queen

and it didn't com up with my song despite my masterful tapping

PortAndLemon · 21/11/2008 21:43

I have never got songtapper to recognise a song, even if I actually play the song in question and tap along.

There's one somewhere that supposedly identifies a song if you tell them whether each note is higher or lower than the previous one.

AnarchyAunt · 21/11/2008 21:46

It was not one of the suggestions Songtapper made - it said Fur Elise and I know it is not that

oh that is annoying . was it pop? rock? classical?

was he singing in an accent? was it fast or slow? with piano, band, solo?

AnarchyAunt · 21/11/2008 22:03

Ummm, no accent. Sort of poppy, bit mournful male type singing, with guitar but unobtrusively iykwim? Voice main thing. Slow.

Record yourself humming it and post us a link...

AnarchyAunt · 21/11/2008 22:18

Oh lord

That is a last resort, really.

frasersmummy · 21/11/2008 22:30

or go to your local music store and hum it to the person behind the counter!!!

AnarchyAunt · 27/11/2008 20:23

Has anyone got any other ideas as this is still driving me potty!!

OP posts:
misdee · 27/11/2008 20:27

there a website where you can tap the tune in using the spacve bar. will try and find it for you.

misdee · 27/11/2008 20:28

this is it

misdee · 27/11/2008 20:29

oh see it was linked already. sorry !!!

AnarchyAunt · 27/11/2008 20:30

We tried that and it suggested Fur Elise. I am hopeless at recognising tunes but it was not that!

OP posts:
Scootergrrrl · 27/11/2008 20:30

Can you remember even one line?

AnarchyAunt · 27/11/2008 20:37

Not even one.

It is a lost cause I suspect, until I hear it on a shop radio and start doing a little dance of joy! I don't even think I like the song much, its just very farkin annoying the way it pops into my head every time I see the book on the shelf.

SlartyBartFast · 27/11/2008 20:39

have you googled the book?

SlartyBartFast · 27/11/2008 20:40
