provider by far the best thing NERD have done

belgo · 30/06/2008 17:43

not really rap though

maidamess · 30/06/2008 17:43

Perhaps I don't really like rap then....

InLoveWithSweeneyTodd · 30/06/2008 17:44

No, i don't like it.

belgo · 30/06/2008 17:45

maidamess - my 'not really rap' comment was about the NERD song[mile]

maidamess · 30/06/2008 17:46

Ok, as you were

I like rap, have listened to it for many years. Like all the early 80s raw stuff right through to present day. Its not all pop a cap in your ass shite. There is a lot of intelligent rapping around which covers many social issues. Ugly Duckling, Jurassic5, Abdominal, DJ Format, Boogie Down Productions, A Tribe called Quest, Public Enemy, Lyrics Born, Mr Lif..they are all worth a listen. Its wrong to base it on the commercial songs that are played to death on mainstream radio staions as its by no means a full representation dig a bit deeper and there are some gems

meglet · 30/06/2008 20:16

oooo, i love it. Although I am glad my old NWA vinyl is in the loft, I'm not keen on explaining that to DS in a few years time. I shall bring out the Public Enemy and Wu Tang though.

Can't stand 50 Cent, but love Jay-Z, The Streets & Kanye West.

northernsoul · 30/06/2008 20:51

I sometimes clean my house to It Takes a Nation of Millions meglet with my 3 yr old ds shaking his bum to the beats, i often have to hoover round him

TsarChasm · 30/06/2008 20:54

I don't like it, but what amuses me about it is the funny hand flapping thing they do and the odd camera angles; always looking down. Oh, and the trousers. Love the trousers. Has anyones's trousers actually fallen off?

UnquietDad · 30/06/2008 23:10

aaaaagh!!not the Wu Tang Clan...

Subject of the most unintentionally hilarious "Q" interview ever...

charliecat · 30/06/2008 23:17

I have the same problem as BBMousey as all my old PE, De La Soul, Wu-Tang, Pharcyde etc only gets dusted off if dh is out of the house, preferably out of the country. I used to listen to a lot of the girls' stuff as well: Queen Latifah, Salt n Pepa, TLC (early) etc. I loathe most current hiphop not just for the horrendous misogyny and consumerism, but for the fact it takes it self so effin' seriously. PE were funny, does noone remember that??

I'm getting a bit old for the really hardcore stuff anyway but still listen to some Outkast, Ms Dynamite, Ugly Duckling (guilty secret, that last one, but it's so cute, the songs are about kids' TV shows and stuff.)

mybabysinthegarden · 01/07/2008 14:25

Oh, M7, totally forgot about Digital Underground--they were ace! Off to do the humpty dance right now.

I used this thread as an excuse to trawl through youtube to find all my old favourites - have to admit to giggling to some of the lyrics - I was going to post some links on here but thought it might get me banned what with all the naughty language involved

Love2bake · 01/07/2008 16:23

Love it, love,

Jay Z
Nelly
Ne-yo
Usher
Snoop
Timberland

Love them all.

HermanMunster · 01/07/2008 17:00

mybabysinthegarden have you heard the album Dangermouse and MF Doom did together, The Mouse & The Mask? It's brilliant - really funny, fantastic inventive production, amazing wordplay, and all the songs are about cartoon shows on Adult Swim
