I've just read in a couple of places that Prince did die from an opiate overdose.
I don't know if its official word yet or whats going on.

TonightYoureAStar · 02/06/2016 18:07

Yep seen that in the bbc so I guess it's true, it's not a surprise I presumed as much, it got too much for his body to take Sad I just can't work out why he was in the elevator..Paisley park was wired for sound and must have had cameras everywhere so why wasn't someone watching out for him when it must have been known by those close that he was battling against an addiction, just wish he hadn't been alone

ComputerBlue · 02/06/2016 18:08

If it is that I just hope the press don't sensationalise it because we know he was in a lot of pain from his hip and Prince just wasn't the kind of person who would want to let something like that stop him performing or slow him down, he lived for performing to his fans. It doesn't change the fact that he was clean living and anti alcohol and drugs

princeismagic · 02/06/2016 18:14

Completely agree blue. Unfortunately this seems to be from an unofficial leak, so no context provided for the overdose - just lots of headlines that he 'overdosed'. Sad

TonightYoureAStar · 02/06/2016 18:30

Yes agree, He just wanted to keep on performing, it was his life, but these drugs aren't 'painkillers' they are opiates and and should be labelled as such, he might not have even realised what he was taking at first, but even the strongest person can succumb to addiction..

FuzzyOwl · 02/06/2016 18:33

It's such a shame and a waste.

HRHlikeahornyponywould · 02/06/2016 18:35

It still doesn't make sense. More of an explanation is needed really.

I think I'll still wait for something official.

Cocolepew · 02/06/2016 19:08

Bloody DH! Just came in from work and said "I see Prince was a druggie".
He's lucky I never threw his dinner at him Angry

ComputerBlue · 02/06/2016 19:11

Coco I hope people who don't know much about it and see the headlines don't think that because nothing could be further from the truth really could it

Cocolepew · 02/06/2016 19:15

I nearly cried Blush
Then yelled, It was his bloody hip!

lazarusb · 02/06/2016 19:18

I see the BBC are saying that the US police are talking to his doctor again. Perhaps the dose was too high or built up in his system. Tramadol (among others) is an opiate based painkiller often prescribed for back and joint pain. Even if it was an overdose, it could easily have been accidental or reacted with something else he was taking.

I can't believe that he would have done it on purpose. The fact he was in the elevator suggests to me that he was feeling bad and trying to find someone to help him. Sad

Cocolepew · 02/06/2016 19:25

I tale Tramadol, Naproxen, codeine and can take up to 8 paracetamol a day as advised by my Dr.

If you are in a lot of pain it can be easily done.

lazarusb · 02/06/2016 19:31

Exactly Coco. When my back was really bad a few years ago I took a real cocktail on a regular basis. It would have been easy to make a mistake when I was zoned out. Frighteningly easy.

ComputerBlue · 02/06/2016 19:58

I just hate the thought of misinformed people saying disrespectful things about him. The fact that he was strongly anti drugs and alcohol was always something that I really admired about him and this news doesn't change anything for me at all in that respect. In my youth I never really enjoyed drinking to excess (although I went through a short phase of it) and have never done drugs and always felt I was a bit odd, especially about the drinking, and when I became aware that an absolute super funky baddass like Prince didn't drink or do drugs it made me feel better about that I suppose, and that I didn't necessarily have to drink loads on a Friday night to fit in with people, I could just be myself. That's the main message I have always taken from Prince, just to be true to myself.

princeismagic · 02/06/2016 20:07

The medical examiners report has been released - reported by TMZ but also the local Star Tribune, so presumably they're reliable. If you want to see the details: m.startribune.com/prince-died-from-opioid-overdose/381663221/?section=%2F

Cocolepew · 02/06/2016 20:28

Goodness he was only 8 stone.

HRHlikeahornyponywould · 02/06/2016 21:06

This has upset me so much again, that he did this to himself :(

Just incredibly sad

FuzzyOwl · 02/06/2016 21:07

Coco he was only 5'2" though so I think eight stone is quite a healthy weight. I am three inches taller and almost five months pregnant, and only eight pounds heavier.

Cocolepew · 02/06/2016 21:12

I admit I think he looked frail in the last few months of pictures. I think maybe it was loss of muscle though.

MaybeImJustTooDemanding · 02/06/2016 21:12

Hello all...apologies for radio silence, I am on holiday in the depths of nowhere with no signal or wifi

Just managed to get a glimpse of a signal and the first thing I see are the reports of an overdose Sad if true, that is so so sad Sad

FuzzyOwl · 02/06/2016 21:27

He did look frail. It's just so sad and so completely unnecessary.

Destinysdaughter · 02/06/2016 21:31

It's all v sad and preventable. I wonder what his state of mind was at the time? So many if onlys...Sad
