nice link poodle - I've just lost another 45 minutes of my life browsing Prince videos on YouTube!

augustusglupe · 05/05/2016 19:54

orange same here!! Between 81 and 84 it was all Gary Numan, Japan, Bauhaus with me, like you say, with Prince in the background, as he wasn't part of the New Romantic scene. Although when Purple Rain premiered at the ABC in Nottingham, it was hilarious, we'd all gone and hadn't said anything!! Afterwards we all fell out onto the pavement buzzing with it!! A load of Goths, head to toe in black, doing 'The Time' moves Grin
I remember by summer 85, I'd got out of my Goth phase and got a bit more glam and played Prince to death after that.
Also, quite a few people from the early 80s have died since. Mick Karn from Japan died about 5 years ago and I did feel sad, but this has been real gut wrenching grief and I really don't have a clue why it's been so bad and although I'm acting it I real life...I honestly don't feel any less upset than I did 2 weeks ago.

HRHandIamfunky · 05/05/2016 20:02

On the current.org there's a questionnaire to list your favourite 10 prince tracks. There are 300 there.

It was harder than I thought. I got it to 17 to start! Then in the end I had to let raspberry beret go.you realise how many truly great songs he had.

Destinysdaughter · 05/05/2016 20:19

HRH ooh that would be hard! Listening to some of his albums the last week or so, there's so many great songs, a lot of which weren't even singles!

maybe I am loving your name! Smile

I have cried a few times today. It's mad isn't it!

I bought Q magazine today and then I saw Time magazine. It's quite thick and an entire tribute to prince but it's a bit more expensive. I can't wait to read it.

Orangeanddemons · 05/05/2016 20:45

But Agustus, I was just embarrassed when Steve Strange died! But Prince was like a Goth icon. Everyone loved him, it must have been the makeup and purpleness.

I loathed all disco and that sort of stuff, really disliked Kool and the Gang and MJ with a vengeance, but Prince was just miles and miles away from all that sort of stuff.

mummymafia · 05/05/2016 20:45

not sure if this has already been posted but I mentioned it earlier - it is beautiful. I can't stop crying. What a waste- and so near to being saved. My heart is broken. Sad

orange Yes!! After purple rain came out in 84 It changed everything. Have to say until then i was alone in my love of him, at least with my crowd!! I was thinking about a few of the crowd I knew back then who were probably suicidal when Bowie died, so many worshipped him. Even though that was tragic, I think Prince still had so much more professionally to give and obviously as we've said, that he died alone, maybe needlessly, doesn't help.
I definately think though, just from reading online and stuff that there are a hell of a lot of people totally devastated by Prince dying.
Sorry Daily Mail!! He was a good soul, a very kind, drop dead gorgeous, genius and nothing you can possibly say can change that fact!! Infact your just looking like a load of idiots trying to make up any old crap!!!!
There, I feel a bit better for that!!

I haven't seen any of the stuff in the Mail, I try to avoid even looking at the headlines, but I'm going to my Mum's for the weekend and she is an avid reader of it, along with my sister. No doubt she will have saved any articles about Prince for me, thinking she's doing me a favour. Not sure if I'll throw them straight in the bin or not!
I'm collecting all the magazines that have articles so now I've got to buy Time, thanks Binders, I'll look for that tomorrow.
Like many others I'm still feeling rough, still crying at some of the songs, and at other random times. Can't even think about listening to anything else and there's so many songs to get through, haven't even heard them all yet. I keep finding new favourites but I've got so many old favourites. HRH that list must be really difficult, Raspberry Beret is definitely one of my all time favourites but I can think of at least 15 more favourites without too much trouble, there'd be loads more if I thought abut it for a few minutes. Who else produced such a huge amount of amazing music!

Destinysdaughter · 06/05/2016 00:23

Wow this is a fascinating article about what it was like to work with Prince during the 90s, by band members.Think he was a pretty hard taskmaster!

Sill reading articles in Q, great quote 'suddenly it was like the violet strip was snuffed right out of the rainbow'

EachandEveryone · 06/05/2016 02:03

I havent watched any of the tv tributes yet. Our local is having a prince night but im working. I am going to Glasto though so its going to be emotional. There is a Bowie singalong and they are shiwing his Glasto set all over the site. Apparently they will be Prince all night parties. Its going tobe a blubfest!

darlingnikki · 06/05/2016 07:45

She was his hairdresser for TWENTY-EIGHT years!

commutergirl37 · 06/05/2016 08:20

Thanks for the article link destiny. Reading it on the train with Prince on my headphones. I love checking in here each morning and seeing what's new! Saving up the video links for the weekend.
Went to see Purple Rain last night. It was pretty much sold out and not just forty-somethings - there were some young uns there too! I hadn't seen the film in years and remember it as being just a little bit cheesy (it was!) and probably my least favourite Prince look, but oh my gosh he was amazing in it! Everyone clapped and cheered at the end and there were quite a few tears when he played Purple Rain. It was a great night.
Meant to be having a romantic mini-break with DH this weekend. Think he might be a bit Hmm about the obsessive Prince watching/listening though ...

HRHinthroughtheoutdoor · 06/05/2016 09:25

Kim Berry did the best job on Prince's hair. It was always amazing.

It's a lovely tribute.

God there must be a will somewhere. It's the people who helped Prince like her, security, people who made his clothes, deserve the money more than some distant relative.

Binders1 · 06/05/2016 10:23

Each - sounds like you are going to have an amazing time at Glasto!

nikki - Love the article from his hairdresser - last paragraph started making my eyes water AGAIN!

Commuter - I am off to see purple rain tonight and can't wait. I admit it wasn't my favourite Prince look either - but Prince is Prince. I'll take him however he comes. Have a lovely weekend!

WOW - we could make up our own tribute book!

Cocolepew · 06/05/2016 10:40

I love that those who were close to Prince never came out with tell-alls when he was alive and now are only telling respectful stories. It proves how loyal they were to him so he must have treated them good .

Made an absolute arse of myself this morning. I had the Q magazine in the trolley and DD put something on top of it covering his face and I cried Blush
