Compiling a list of great covers. Have got quite a few but don't want to miss any out so what are your contributions?

everyspring Were the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain brought to your attention by an ill-advised dalliance with the Space Pirates by any chance? :o

If you like your cheese, get the Baseballs album, Strike! If you like your angry white boy stuff, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are a must :o

Roxy Music's Jelous Guy. Far superior to the original John Lennon version.

First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - George Michael

Will young's cover of don't ya by outkast is fantastic

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 10/05/2011 00:01

Johnny Cash doing NIN's 'Hurt' or Nick Cave & The Bad Seed's 'Mercy Seat'

Placebo doing Kate Bush's 'Running up that Hill'

There's a french band that do these really laid back covers of songs and their name has completely slipped my memory for the moment. Nouvelle Vague that's the ones! Smile

Cover versions of The First time Ever I Saw Your Face by anyone don't count, as the original by Euan McColl is

Needless to say, Johnny Cash did a But I am starting to think he probably did a staggeringly emotional version of The Wheels on the Bus at sometime in his later career.

Shock Shock

The original is full of angst and he really sounds like he feels like he's been a shit in it...

The RM version sounds smarmy and unapologetic ... (this may be because BF always sounds like a smarmy git to me anyway)

sweetandtenderhooligan · 10/05/2011 12:10

Zillah I would normally agree with you as I'm not a fan of Mr Ferry generally and I adore John Lennon... and I know what you're saying about it sounding unapologetic - but I think it's such a beautiful version of the song. It makes my spine tingle. Sorry Blush Smile

aliceliddell · 10/05/2011 12:16

kd lang's 'Crying' is better than Orbison's original.
