AnnMumsnet · 06/05/2011 09:26

This thread is for the MNers who are growing tomato plants from seed courtsey of Dolmio (well at least they are hoping to Grin). The project is designed to highlight the fact that 100% of Dolmio tomatoes are grown outdoors in the sun (not in greenhouses). For more info on Dolmio please click here

If you are a tomato grower and part of this project please add your updates below - we'd love to know about the plants at each stage - from humble seedlings to the fully grown fruit! Do let us know how, if at all, your children are getting involved as well. If you are not so succesful don't worry please also let us know here. If you need any advice please ask and if you can offer advice please do so!

Details for sending in photos is on the email sent.

Everyone who takes part in this project and who adds their feedback and sends in at least one photo will be entered into a prize draw to win one of two £200 John Lewis vouchers and a Dolmio hamper (to be mailed out in September).

Thanks and best of luck

I nipped out in the rain last night to tie a couple of mine up that were in serious need of support. There are quite a few flowers just opening, so fingers crossed for fruit soon.

munstersmum · 19/07/2011 13:53

We put seeded pots into drying cupboard to get them going. This proved a fatal mistake not the best course of action.

We have about 4 baby tomatoes now. all green, but growing strong. the weather has been perfect for them - a day of rain followed by a day of sun. I just hope the birds and bugs stay away!!

Some of the leaves on my plants are going yellow. I fear they are rapidly dyeing Confused. Anyone know if I can do anything?

smokinaces · 22/07/2011 22:28

crafty, mine did that when they were drying out too quick. lots of extra watering helped.

BehindLockNumberNine · 22/07/2011 23:14

Plants are now outside on the patio, in individual pots. I will transfer them to growbags this weekend. However, whilst the plants are now a good size, there are no flowers and hence no tomatoes.....

What do I need to do to get things moving or is it just a case of wait and see.....(or wait and wait as the case may be)

Bicnod · 23/07/2011 18:01

Woo hoo! We have 3 baby tomatoes Grin

Green and only one on each plant so far but very exciting.

TheMonster · 24/07/2011 14:47

I've been out pruning mine this afternoon. Quite a few flowers now.

ouryve · 25/07/2011 11:59

Our plant has grown like a weed, this week, so I potted it on into its final pot, yesterday (too leggy and fragile for DS1 to help with). It's a lovely, green healthy plant, even if it is a bit behind its cousins. It's at least overtaken them in size, at last (the other plants are all miniature tomato plants), even if the first flower buds haven't even opened, yet!

ouryve · 25/07/2011 12:03

craftynclothy - if you haven't been feeding tomorite or other tomato feed (B&Q's is much better value and more concentrated, so goes further), they will benefit from it. Or else, if you have some, give them a plant feed with sequestered iron in (Wilko do one). My older plants could do with an iron tonic, since they're looking quite yellow, too.

TheMonster · 27/07/2011 09:57

I have more flowers now Smile
I think I will feed them again today too. How often can you feed them?

moonbells · 27/07/2011 10:12

Well I finally have flowers. Woohoo!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 27/07/2011 17:41

I have flower buds!!! I nearly did a dance around the yard when I saw them this morning BlushGrin.

TheMonster · 27/07/2011 18:54

I can't wait for the toms to start growing. I'm saving my last picture until then.

BehindLockNumberNine · 28/07/2011 23:14

I was going to take another picture today, although progress to date has been destinctly underwhelming, but plants looking a bit ... erm... wilted. Blush
Have watered them and given them a pep talk. May perk up enough for a picture tomorrow....

AnnMumsnet · 29/07/2011 15:40

How exciting - all these flowers and mini green tomatoes!

LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 29/07/2011 18:33

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 29/07/2011 21:04

i just want one teeny tomato....

smokinaces · 29/07/2011 21:07

Ours are coming on nicely - 7 or so tomatoes now, all green and growing nicely. DS2 will be ecstatic as he finally has his first come out!

Cant wait for them to go red now!
