AnnMumsnet · 06/05/2011 09:26

This thread is for the MNers who are growing tomato plants from seed courtsey of Dolmio (well at least they are hoping to Grin). The project is designed to highlight the fact that 100% of Dolmio tomatoes are grown outdoors in the sun (not in greenhouses). For more info on Dolmio please click here

If you are a tomato grower and part of this project please add your updates below - we'd love to know about the plants at each stage - from humble seedlings to the fully grown fruit! Do let us know how, if at all, your children are getting involved as well. If you are not so succesful don't worry please also let us know here. If you need any advice please ask and if you can offer advice please do so!

Details for sending in photos is on the email sent.

Everyone who takes part in this project and who adds their feedback and sends in at least one photo will be entered into a prize draw to win one of two £200 John Lewis vouchers and a Dolmio hamper (to be mailed out in September).

Thanks and best of luck

We still have some greenfly Angry and I need to pinch off more bits today but the plants are looking really healthy and green. No sign of flowers yet but it shouldn't be long.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 10/07/2011 15:05

I've finally managed a picture that is of tomato plants rather than an empty letter box Grin. My pic doesn't feature my adorable children (they were asleep), but it does have some rare Scottish sunshine.

TheMonster · 10/07/2011 16:35

I'm quite intregued to see a picture of your letter box!

MrsJohnDeere · 10/07/2011 16:45

8 of my seedlings grew into decent looking plants. They're all now in growbags. 3 have fruit on them, 3 are big but have no flowers yet, 2 look a bit puny.

LIZS · 10/07/2011 17:00

Ours are up to 51cm but no flowers or tomatoes yet. Will try to email another photo.

2gorgeousboys · 10/07/2011 17:02

We have flowers Grin. Our seeds seemed to arrive about a month or so after everyone elses but now in a tub we have plants about 3 feet tall with yellow flowers.

DS2 is so excited and checks about 10 times a day to count the flowers.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 10/07/2011 18:11

My letter box isn't that interesting honest. Just the Royal Mail managed a massive fail with my seeds and for about 6 weeks I thought the only way I would be able to send in a picture would be to send one of my front door with no seeds under the letter box flap thingy Grin

TheMonster · 10/07/2011 19:43

Grin confessions!

I've just fed mine for the first time. Hopefully that'll make a difference.

Adair · 11/07/2011 13:04

Ours are looking good. No flowers but Grandma (expert on these sort of things) says we should be ok not to feed yet...

TheMonster · 11/07/2011 20:53

oh dammit.

clayre · 11/07/2011 21:05

We are starting to get wee yellow flowers on a couple of our plants, despite planting them all at the same time they are at different stages and there is a huge difference in the size of them!

When the rain stays off for long enough i am going to put canes in to support them!

jasper1980 · 12/07/2011 14:34

Mine are very tall but nobfruit yet. Have 9 plants though!!!

spout · 12/07/2011 15:46

what do you feed them? Confused tomato-led-weaning or purees?

smokinaces · 12/07/2011 18:26

I have some fruits!!! Little bud like green bulbs - I am sooooo proud!!!

smokinaces · 12/07/2011 18:31

I havent added any tomato food or compost either - was I meant to?!!?

We've just counted - 2 fruit on my seedling, looking like 4 on DS1s and none yet on DS2's but he has a flower or two so fingers crossed!

mollymole · 12/07/2011 21:05

have 27 goo, strong plants - 3 trusses high - but no flowers so have started feeding them - hope they grow something soon

mollymole · 12/07/2011 21:05

good, strong plants - sorry

ouryve · 13/07/2011 16:19

We have flower buds!

TheMonster · 13/07/2011 17:30

us too! Grin
We need a green-fingered emoticon.

ouryve · 13/07/2011 21:09

There's only envious green tomatoes Envy

BehindLockNumberNine · 14/07/2011 07:47

No flowers yet, much less tomatoes....
But I do have 8 strong little plants which have grown quite tall. Have had to give them all a plant-support-cane to cling on to.

My packet of seeds actually gave me 16 plants, I havve 8 to dd's school for them to grow on in their recycled-plastic-bottle-greenhouse. Will see if I can take a picture and post their progress too.... Smile

VampiresReflection · 18/07/2011 10:07

We have flowers and fruits! I just need to keep the chickens away. They seem to be drawn to the scent of the plants. DD is so excited about picking them. Pictures to follow...

ClaimedByMe · 18/07/2011 10:10

I have put canes in as some were starting to be a bit top heavy, i have also spread them out in the garden as they were all kinda tangled!

About half of my plants are about to flower so hopefully we should get a tomato or two in the next few weeks!

pozzled · 18/07/2011 10:24

We have 12 plants, all looking pretty healthy at the moment, a few flowers. No tomatoes yet though.

Albrecht · 18/07/2011 11:12

No flowers or fruits here yet but we do have some plants that have just been repotted.
