AnnMumsnet · 06/05/2011 09:26

This thread is for the MNers who are growing tomato plants from seed courtsey of Dolmio (well at least they are hoping to Grin). The project is designed to highlight the fact that 100% of Dolmio tomatoes are grown outdoors in the sun (not in greenhouses). For more info on Dolmio please click here

If you are a tomato grower and part of this project please add your updates below - we'd love to know about the plants at each stage - from humble seedlings to the fully grown fruit! Do let us know how, if at all, your children are getting involved as well. If you are not so succesful don't worry please also let us know here. If you need any advice please ask and if you can offer advice please do so!

Details for sending in photos is on the email sent.

Everyone who takes part in this project and who adds their feedback and sends in at least one photo will be entered into a prize draw to win one of two £200 John Lewis vouchers and a Dolmio hamper (to be mailed out in September).

Thanks and best of luck

Bodyofeeyore feed them about once a week - the bottle of feed should give you more hints.

CharlotteBS Try feeding them with a plant tonic containing magnesium and sequestered iron.

TheMonster · 31/07/2011 09:52

Well I am away at the moment visiting my oldies, but DP is under strict instructions to look after the plants. I shall get on the blower to him now and tell him to feed them again.

LaVitaBellissima · 31/07/2011 10:44

Just got back from holiday! SIL has looked after them very well, few flowers here Smile

TheSkiingGardener · 02/08/2011 12:44

OK, after a period of extreme neglect I have 2 tomato plats putting on a frantic spurt. This may be because they are finally getting a decent amount of water.

Waiting for flowers now.

timidviper · 02/08/2011 23:06

I definately got the booby prize packet! Am sure mine are bonsai ones! They are outside, perfectly happy but just not growing. They are still about 8" high and look exactly the same as they have for the last 2 months Confused

pozzled · 03/08/2011 17:07

I'm a bit confused, I have some green tomatoes but they've been sitting there for about the last three weeks- not ripening, not doing anything. They're a good size, but still green!

On the other hand I do still have lots of flowers and a few more little green tomatoes coming through, so I'm still hoping for a bumper crop.

ouryve · 03/08/2011 20:38

They take a long, long time to ripen.

ouryve · 05/08/2011 15:30

Not only do we have our first flowers, our plant is green and lush and popping out buds everywhere! Have just had to pinch a few out or else it'll end up out of control!

TheMonster · 05/08/2011 15:37

We have small green tomoatoes! Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 06/08/2011 11:59

My flower buds are finally opening. Last week the weather was warm, so they had a big growth spurt, but it's been cool again this week, so not much happened. Shall take more pics when more flowers open.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 08/08/2011 09:17

we have fruit!
they are tiny, and very green, but fruit nonetheless.

craftynclothy · 08/08/2011 09:27

We've got some small green tomatoes too. Dd1 was very excited Grin.

Envy

My healthy plant took a right battering in the storm we had on Saturday. Thankfully, a bit more twine and the rather good drink its had seem to be helping to revive it.

TheMonster · 09/08/2011 09:56

Mine are drinking a lot at the moment and there are quite a few little green toms. I need to get out there and get rid of some excess branches today.

spout · 09/08/2011 16:45

great excitement in the spout household - WE HAVE FLOWERS!

Plants are looking spindely with yellowing leaves at the bottom...
But yellow flowers at the top!!

So, ds and I have just spent a productive hour moving them from their starter pots to grow bags, staked them for support, watered them and talked to them for extra encouragement....

Fingers crossed we get tomatoes Smile

gazzalw · 10/08/2011 13:53

mine finally have yellow flowers but think it will be a little while before we are eating home grown ones with our supper!
Will upload some photos but don't expect any works of art please!

TheMonster · 10/08/2011 14:28

Behind, mine have some yellowing leaves at the bottom too. I'm just ignoring the yellowing bits Grin

TheSkiingGardener · 11/08/2011 05:52

Ooh we have flowers! Looking forward to nice plump red fruits now.

jenniferturkington · 11/08/2011 10:12

Just checking in for the first time in ages! Well I have small green tomatoes, largely due to the fact that the plant went on holiday to Grandma's house while we were away. Since we got back it has developed a case of yellow leaves, which I hope will not develop further.

TheMonster · 12/08/2011 08:17

Has anyone sent in a photo of their green toms yet?

pozzled · 12/08/2011 14:05

I have some red tomatoes! Only 2, but I'm still very excited. They have been there for ages and have finally ripened. I need to get the camera out. I haven't shown my 3 year-old DD (they're hidden right at the back) because I know she'll want to eat them immediately.

Lots of green ones as well, mostly very small though.

ClaimedByMe · 13/08/2011 15:37

I have just gave my plants a bit of a trim, they were going a bit wild, i have millions on yellow plants and im slightly worried that im going to have millions of tomatoes all ripe at the same time!
