To want to ban these phrases (not light-hearted - this would be my first act as dictator)

"I'm reaching out" - no, you are contacting me by email

"it broke me" - no, it made you a bit sad

"Picky bits tea" - just no

When a new song or book is published and it "has dropped", like it's the Berlin air-lift or something.

Our local papers junior reporters are increasngly fond of the term 'clapped back' when someone responds to something...

Oh clapped back is the worst as well it’s so obnoxious
and “speaking her truth”

pandasorous · 01/07/2024 21:03

@OptimismvsRealism sorry, but I have been planning to be dictator (i will take on the title shogun) of the world since before I was born. you would have to fight me first.

I have a lot of plans. there will be a re-education centre for people who don't like cats for a start.

LiterallyOnFire · 01/07/2024 21:03

I had a dirty chai latte the other day. God knows what made it dirty.

Intrepid of you to drink it regardless.

I hate the term ‘food noise’ I keep reading on all those weight loss injections threads. It’s called hunger, everyone experiences it.

That's called borborygmi

DinnaeFashYersel · 01/07/2024 21:03

I was today years old when I ....

People who use literally inappropriately. ’I’m literally dying today’. No, no you’re not.

And at work ‘let’s sunset this’. No let’s be honest, we’re shutting something down and laying people off. Let’s not sugarcoat it.

Yes!!
"I literally died"
You really didn't, you are here over-exagerrating telling me about it.

I also (possibly unreasonably) despise the word nourish particularly if its non-food related, eg it nourishes your soul.

VaddaABeetch · 01/07/2024 21:04

emmetgirl · 01/07/2024 21:04

Using the word amazing to describe anything even vaguely good.

needsomewarmsunshine · 01/07/2024 21:05

So many stupid expressions are used on MN but one of my most hated is 'super' prefixing the most normal things like super late and super excited

Hate it! Twats.

WingSlutz · 01/07/2024 21:05

All of the above, and one that drives me nuts:
Wellness.
Wellbeing. It's wellbeing.

Honourable mention for 'drop' as in, Taylor Swift's new single drops today.
Released. It's being released today.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 01/07/2024 21:05

Anything to replace the word 'very'. It's super hot, I'm super excited, it's uber strict etc.

And anything that 'drops' that doesn't involve gravity. TV shows, music etc, they are released or broadcast or available not bloody dropped.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 01/07/2024 21:06

Where is all this shite coming from? Is it all wanky social media in origin?

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 01/07/2024 21:06

The nicknames for some female singers :
Tay Tay
Brit Brit
Ri Ri

it just gets on my nerves so much , so babyish

Yes!

Combining names for reality shows or other TV programmes so they become for example: Ballam, Ben and Callum in Eastenders, Team JoJo, John Waite and Johannes in Strictly Come Dancing. so bloody twee

TherapistInATabard · 01/07/2024 21:07

I’m OBSESSED 😤

EveryOtherNameTaken · 01/07/2024 21:07

Epic or awesome for quite good.

Conniebygaslight · 01/07/2024 21:07

‘So we did a thing….’
Usually to announce an engagement or a pregnancy etc

TheMarzipanDildo · 01/07/2024 21:07

ShelleyCarpenter · 01/07/2024 20:56

“Baby girl” to describe a teenage daughter

Can also be used to describe a 45 year old attractive male celebrity if you’re in an online fandom, I learnt recently.

TherapistInATabard · 01/07/2024 21:08

Oh oh, and ‘super’ instead of very. Ugh.
