To want to ban these phrases (not light-hearted - this would be my first act as dictator)

"I'm reaching out" - no, you are contacting me by email

"it broke me" - no, it made you a bit sad

"Picky bits tea" - just no

I’m so pleased that a lot of the phrases that annoy me have made it to this thread. The written one that I’ve noticed people using lately is “ect” instead of “etc” (for et cetera)

SquitMcJit · 02/07/2024 03:05

Rip someone a new one.

I often see it on here. Never heard it in real life, thankfully.

What does it mean

Frumpyfrau · 02/07/2024 03:26

All the sexual euphemisms like “would smash” and “slap”. Why are these terms considered “hot”??
Also women using “ball ache” and “lady boner”. Ew. Must we use male terms/experiences as defaults?

st patricks day flag GIF

Are you in Canada or do you just like the flag

Speedweed · 02/07/2024 03:30

People talking about 'curating their clothing 'collection', and the 'pieces' they own, how they need a new 'piece'.

We know you're only talking about a pile of polyblend Primark tshirts.

I don’t know why but this exchange with the flags just made this thread.

I didn’t spit my coffee/wine out or literally laugh my head off but I actually did laugh out loud.

🇮🇷

Iranian flag as DP also laughed and as he’s Persian insisted this was the flag used!

"My lived experience"
It's just your experience. Obviously you were alive when you experienced it.
"Furbaby"
"Invites" instead of invitations
Saying someone has "passed" instead of died. Why can't you say "passed on" or even "passed over" if you can't bring yourself to say "died" at least that makes sense. "Passed" just sounds like you haven't finished the sentence. So and so passed? What did they pass, an exam?

ThatsMeYoureTalkingAbout · 02/07/2024 04:07

"Date night"

I hate this. You're just going out for something to eat with your DP

ThatsMeYoureTalkingAbout · 02/07/2024 04:10

I hate "nom nom" written next to pictures of food!

This!

Minimammoth · 02/07/2024 04:16

I will add……
just do xxxx for me. Could you just hop up on the couch for me….
Also ‘ perfect’ after every answer given on filling in a form.
I so agree with the myself/ yourself thing, also gifted, what happened to gave and was given?
I’ve no idea what picky tea is though.

"Sus"

"Adulting"

I spotted someone has already mentioned "unalived". What an awful term!

Some of these, and 'unalived' is one, have sprung up due to some SM platforms removing or applying various sanctions to accounts where a member has used a particular word.

Using 'dead' on FB, TikTok possibly others, will absolutely cause you problems, but so can words like 'dog', 'bitch', 'gun'... because the bots do not understand context at all.

This makes it difficult if you happen to run a group discussing dog behaviour, or as a friend does, a gun dog group!

No excuse whatsoever for bringing that shit to forums though!

ShelleyCarpenter · 02/07/2024 04:33

“I’m so blessed” aaaarrrrggggh!!!!!

Anneofa1000days · 02/07/2024 04:36

Doable.

Pollygrip · 02/07/2024 05:18

Managers who use ‘we’ when they mean ‘you’:

’Have we found a solution to xxx yet?’

’How are we getting on with xxx?’

Just ask me if I’ve done it! It always brings out my inner child (another annoying phrase) and makes me want to say ‘Well I haven’t. Have you?’

Zanatdy · 02/07/2024 05:48

Agree on picky bits tea, that makes me cringe

AhBiscuits · 02/07/2024 05:49

Broken their silence.
Princess Ann has broken her silence on horror accident.
Jay Slator's mum has broken on her silence on new evidence.

It gets used so often and it really irritates me.

marshmallowfinder · 02/07/2024 05:54

Obsessed with. No you're not. An obsession is a serious mental disorder. You're fucking fond of it.

RedOrBlueOrYellow · 02/07/2024 05:56

Foxxo · 01/07/2024 20:29

Picky bits
chrimbo
hollibobs
YOLO
'hack' it's not a hack, its a tip.

All of these. No idea what YOLO is though.

Also the over dramatics for very minor things.
