To ask for an explanation for wtf just happened? **MNHQ UPDATE: Mystery solved!**

I'm seriously creeped out and can't figure out a rational explanation so I'm hoping someone can!

Sitting in the kitchen, eating dinner when a black shape ran past my legs, close enough that I felt it pass. Figured it was my cat at first but when I stood up, she was sitting on the windowsill!

The dark shape ran into the living room where my partner is (he saw it too, because he shouted me!)

It apparently jumped on the sideboard and vanished in front of his eyes. There's nowhere it could go - the sideboard is solid oak on a solid stone wall.

The dog is now going mental at the sideboard like there's something there (if there is, we can't find it!)

I'm genuinely creeped out - anyone have a rational explanation? What the hell did we see?

Aww this took a wonderfully unexpected turn 😍

nightwakingmoon · 13/02/2022 22:51

That’s fantastic! How cute is that bunny. One of the best thread updates I’ve ever seen, OP.

Branster · 13/02/2022 22:52

Phew! Such a Cute rabbit and I'm so relieved it wasn't a rat.
Glad the mystery is solved and I cannot believe you were sat watching tv with a potential ghost/rat in the house!!!

Saracen · 13/02/2022 22:53

Wow, I had no idea rabbits were so fast!

My money was on a rat too. IME if you think you see something but it's too fast to be sure, it's always a rat!

Theunamedcat · 13/02/2022 22:54

😂😂😂😂😂

ImTheOnlyUpsyOne · 13/02/2022 22:56

100% thought it was a ghost cat! Glad you came to update Grin

Anniegetyourgun76 · 13/02/2022 22:56

@WeirdlyKind

Would a rat be able to jump onto a side board though? It's quite tall! I'd rather have a rat than a ghost I think.

Can't see anything behind the sideboard and it's too heavy to move!

I once saw a rat jump on a kitchen counter and out a window. I'm sure this is what it is, I used to occasionally get them run through in a flat I lived in years ago when they'd been a lot of rain xx
CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 13/02/2022 22:57

Awww, that's much nicer than a rat, OP Grin

Nillynally · 13/02/2022 22:57

Omg this is the best thread ever! I'm so happy 🤣

SwissCheeseRentedChildren · 13/02/2022 22:57

Ah, that’s brilliant 🤩, what a cutie! Best “ghost” thread ever!

ImInStealthMode · 13/02/2022 22:58

Aah I was coming to vote for ghost cat but I see you the mystery has now been solved! What a cutie Smile

WeirdlyKind · 13/02/2022 22:59

I'll absolutely take a rabbit over a rat any day!

Rats

CounsellorTroi · 13/02/2022 23:01

Very lucky your terrier didn’t get the rabbit, OP!

ThisMammaCat · 13/02/2022 23:01

That is one weird looking ghost cat!

Joking aside, I've got a healthy respect for the biting capabilities of rabbits after watching one take a "nibble" of a cable years ago and poof, it was severed! Good job the bunny didn't do any nibbling behind your TV unit!

Great thread Grin

Anotherbrokenairer · 13/02/2022 23:03

I spent the whole thread getting anxious, winding myself up, looking around the living room waiting for a rat to run out at me. So glad it's a rabbit, I already have one of those skipping around the living room so feeling a lot calmer now 😂

Cissyandflora · 13/02/2022 23:11

It’s a mouse

WingingItSince1973 · 13/02/2022 23:16

@AtlasPine

What a difference a few scraps of generic material makes. A rabbit is totally different from a rat. Cute and sweet and pick-uppable rather than nasty and repulsive and disgusting. Funny isn’t it!

Very pleased it was a bunny.

Hey we have pet rats and I can assure you out of all the animals we have owned, rabbits included, our rats are the best! Loving and very very clever. Wouldn't want to meet a wild one though!
GeraneousGiraffe · 13/02/2022 23:16

This was brilliant Grin

JayAlfredPrufrock · 13/02/2022 23:19

Phew

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 13/02/2022 23:21

Do check all of the visible wiring in the living room as bunnies love to bite through cables!!

Clawdy · 13/02/2022 23:22

Definitely a mouse.

Clawdy · 13/02/2022 23:23

Just seen it was a rabbit!!

Mermaidwaves · 13/02/2022 23:27

I'm glad he went into yours! Imagine his poor owners thinking he was lost! Rabbits are nosy buggers, I can imagine mine sneaking into the neighbours house for a poke around Grin
