I've just deliberately sent my husband on a wild goose chase

I may or may not have changed some details of said hobby and equipment.

He has a 'hobby' that he is obsessed with. Let's call it wild goose chasing. He watches YouTube videos about wild goose chasing, he reads magazines about wild goose chasing, he has all the gear ('infrared', 'thermal imaging' etc) and likes to go out wild goose chasing on a regular basis.

Recently he hasn't been wild goose chasing due to some disillusionment with his level of success in wild goose chasing and the lack of presence of gooses in the local area. This means every night, for many hours he has talked to me about wild goose chasing. Reads out bits from magazines to me. Talks endlessly. Listens to goose chasing videos in bed and comments on goose chasing techniques.

Tonight I went out on a run and happened to see a wild goose in an unusual location.

Nonchalantly told DH about it and would you know it, off his own back he's excitedly gone out to chase said wild goose.

I've now had two hours of mumsnetting and watching MAFS UK without someone talking about gooses through it. I expect DH is still delightedly crawling around on his hands and knees with his thermal imaging goggles looking for said wild goose.

Only I didn't see a wild goose.

AIBU?

AIBU to see it again tomorrow?

Is it looking for golf balls? My dh and ds do this 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

TheWoleb · 01/09/2021 22:37

You dont need equipment for pokemon go.

It must be birdwatching if it's something you go see. Or those people who go to look for badgers?

tiredanddangerous · 01/09/2021 22:38

I salute you op.

BakedTattie · 01/09/2021 22:38

We do live near a golf course though!

flingoo · 01/09/2021 22:38

I opened this thread knowing already that you weren't being unreasonable and already applauding you.

Can you advise how you would develop your technique if your husband's wild goose chase was Xbox based and your supposed to be interested.., asking for a friend of course!

PlanDeRaccordement · 01/09/2021 22:39

Why? That is so cruel and unnecessary. I couldn’t violate my DHs trust like that. It’s not funny, it’s bullying.

GooseyGooseyWander · 01/09/2021 22:39

@Ekofisk

Maybe not tomorrow night, I’d give it a few days.

Otherwise DH is going to rope you in as Wild Goose Spotter In Chief and you’ll become an integral part of his hobby.

No can do.

Someone has to look after the children.

He looks after them for the 30 mins I go for my evening run so in return I gracefully allow him to go goose chasing once they are in bed.

^theres always one.... 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sleepinghyena · 01/09/2021 22:41

@PlanDeRaccordement Cruel??!!😄

KurtWilde · 01/09/2021 22:42

Not pokemon.. then I'm sticking with ghost hunting 👻

TheWoleb · 01/09/2021 22:42

PlanDeRaccordement rarely finds anything funny.

I'm sure the OP has asked him to stop talking so much about it to her, stop sitting watch the videos about it during any family time etc. If he insists on going on and on and on about it then he deserves to get sent out for one night to give everyone peace.
It's his hobby. He'll enjoy the chase.

Justmuddlingalong · 01/09/2021 22:42

Not hobby related, but my plan of watching Celebrity MasterChef and MAFSUK in peace was looking unlikely. I told DP he was looking really tired and maybe he'd benefit from an early night. At 8.58pm he agreed and went off to bed, giving me time to make a coffee and liberate the last crunchie from the fridge. Small win. 🏆

How is this one-off incident bullying? Get a bloody grip!
millenialblush · 01/09/2021 22:43

Geo cache?

UserStillatLarge · 01/09/2021 22:45

Can't help thinking that if the roles were reversed there woild be chorus of LTB

OP can I suggest you either point out that you have zero interest in geese (perhaps go for competitive boredom with a dull hobbyof your own) or just perfect the ability to nod, smile and say "yes dear" at regular intervals.

Bat hunting?

ABitOfAShitShow · 01/09/2021 22:45

😂

Ekofisk · 01/09/2021 22:46

Someone has to look after the children.

Mwah ha ha ha ha.

You underestimate the Wild Goose Chaser - they will insist that the children are brought along to support the Wild Goose Spotter and at the same time indoctrinate them into the Sacred Art.

GeorgeMichaelBluth · 01/09/2021 22:48

You've clearly cheered him up by renewing his interest in the hobby. I think you've done a nice thing.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 01/09/2021 22:49

Geocaching?

Upvoting for "gooses", much nicer than "geese" Wink

Garriet · 01/09/2021 22:49

YABU for gooses, though it made me giggle.

Cherrysoup · 01/09/2021 22:50

I’m pissing myself! Inspired if you fancy a bit of quiet!

SukiPook · 01/09/2021 22:50

Ha ha ha!!! Love it!! Lol

jozipozi31 · 01/09/2021 22:51

Porn stars?

Feelingpoorlysick · 01/09/2021 22:51

I'm guessing he's a bird watcher...?
