to think it's really cheeky to invite someone to a BBQ then expect them to bring...

...The BBQ!?

We were invited last week to a friends today for a BBQ. They called this morning asking to borrow our BBQ, we assumed there's had broken or the one they ordered hadn't arrived etc - but no. They don't have one. So we suggested they come to ours and bring some of the stuff they'd bought as our BBQ is very heavy and large (won't fit in the car without removing the child seats and lying all seats flat) but it turns out, that not only did they want us to bring our BBQ, they wanted us to leave it at theirs as they are having other friends this evening.

Was IBU to say no? That I didn't want to take our large BBQ and gas bottle to their house and leave it with them?

You didn’t ruin their BBQs because they didn’t bloody well throw a BBQ - they invited people round to their garden on the madcap expectation that you’d do all the hard work!

Kudos to DH for standing his ground in the CF attempts to steal your dining equipment They did the whole "we aren't sure where it is" thing but DH held strong (it's a fucking gas cylinder, it's not easy to lose). Grin

And quickly surprise on the tDH said they were very prickly and rude when he collected it but at least it's all back now. They said we'd ruined their BBQs.

Good glad there CF stealing has been curtailed. I expect you've watched the Glenda posts and reactions with laughter. Has got to be a t-r-o.... won't say it. But if she's not the Glenda is a prime example of lack of guil and self awareness of how choosy beggar and cheeky fuckers behave without any apologies or insight into how truly awful they are

At least dotdashdashdash you have been saved future money and stress in the long term (meh cheap price of a few £10s-100s) because how much more of your stuff would CF have stolen borrowed and never returned over the years otherwise hiding their selfishness- because they prefer to use other peoples money effort and time rather than their own and to Lord it over everyone...

You DH and MNers have their measure now and you n DH have take evasive measure - hopefully to cut them off

Can't imagine your CF friends will have many friends other than grabby ones like them, for long.
