To ask what you dreamed would be fabulous but is actually maybe a bit shit

I think this about lots of things to do with celebrity lives, when I was younger I thought it all would amazing now not so sure.

A particular one I have is that I always longed for a villa on the Italian lakes. We went to a hotel there one year for 5 days ( in the same village as George Clooney ) It pissed down for 3 days. Everything was dark and damp and that combined with the endless queuing for flights and the thought of maintaining a property in another country sort of did for the dream. Not achievable without a lottery win anyway but now I don't even want it.

Anyone else got stuff like this or that they actually got and then thought 'meh'. I seem to have it about more and more things as I get on - I just don't want stuff anymore. Is it just to do with age?

@LunaNorth what did Gorden Ramsey do to the restaurant at Claridges?

RedRec · 10/04/2021 16:31

@cricketmum84 Totally agree with you about the foot spa. I bought one in the first lockdown and used it twice.

And loved your explanation about the kisses Grin

Sarahtrue11 · 10/04/2021 16:31

I think the top two places that I thought would be great but were shit were:

Bali and
Los Angeles.

BJHair · 10/04/2021 16:32

Glastonbury - shit I’m not made for camping mud and filthy toilets
Maldives - boring as fuck - good job I love my husband as otherwise I would have divorced him for putting me through two weeks of sheer boredom 😂

Coachee · 10/04/2021 16:33

Lots of people saying LA was shite. I’ve been twice and love parts of it, but the Hollywood sign was a total disappointment! So small and unimpressive!

Sarahtrue11 · 10/04/2021 16:33

Even though New Yorkers were rude, there was a lot to see in New York, loads of museums, things to do and see, I went to see the Friends building , and the sex and the city building, the 911 museum, and the Empire state building.
I loved going to see Brooklyn too.

the80sweregreat · 10/04/2021 16:34

Ds2 ate a sausage in a roll in Newquay and then had food poisoning that night. Horrible place , windy and full of poser surfer types and teenagers.

So many lovely places in Cornwall , but not there.

Shannith · 10/04/2021 16:34

Harry Potter World. It was just a bit...shit.

I just kept thinking this is so British. In a crap British way. It's stuck in Watford (I appreciate why).

You get the Knight Bus from the station. This could have been so exiting with a few actors or sound effects. Reality was a bog standard London bus with some Harry Potter ads on the outside.

It was an experience or massive missed opportunities all the way through. I was gutted as was DD.

See it would be great if it wasn't for the people! The violent homeless people everywhere, and the crack addicts and meth addicts everywhere. They told me in California, that they all go there to get the warmer weather.
ArtemisiaGentle · 10/04/2021 16:35

@Contactlesslenses

Hamilton.. I found it extremely boring, i really don’t get the hype. I didn’t really understand what was going on and didn’t enjoy the music. After I went and told friends I didn’t like it they said I should have listened to the soundtrack and got to know the storyline before I went...

(I accept that my confusion is down to my ignorance of American history, but still, I don’t expect to have the know the general ‘plot’ of a play before seeing the play..)

Me too. I saw it on Disney+ and couldn't wait for it to end. The music was rubbish.
IEat · 10/04/2021 16:36

Soda stream
Decorating, I have great ideas but the execution
B&B first time as an adult with DD , owner was a moody bitch, in a crap dirty part of Great Yarmouth NEVER AGAIN

Xmas day dinner, DS (adult) is a night owl so gets up late and us too full for lunch but would starve if he didn’t have breakfast, DD (pre teen) gets overwhelmed and doesn’t want to eat so this year I’m doing Xmas eve dinner and a buffet on Xmas day. If they fuesnt solve the issue then I’ll give up

@Justaboutawake

Mr Frosty. Waited 22 years for that useless bastard
Haha! I finally got one for my 40th! Made white wine slushy drinks. Never got it out the box again Grin
OneKeyAtATime · 10/04/2021 16:36

I liked L.A., new York, Venice and Paris.
Not keen on Marrakech though because of the constant hassle.

Don't get the fuss about chips. They are tasteless!

lockdownalli · 10/04/2021 16:36

Japan.

HerRoyalNotness · 10/04/2021 16:37

Niagara Falls from the Canadian side. The falls of course were great but the town is a shit hole, filled with arcades and all sorts of crap. I was so disappointed, and I fear I might have spoiled MIL visit there. She’s always wanted to go and made the best of it but i couldn’t believe how rubbish the town was.

Tangledtresses · 10/04/2021 16:37

A garage we have one it takes up half the garden and is full of crap... I call it the place where things go to die 😂

HesSpartacus · 10/04/2021 16:37

Legoland, which is basically WaspLand. Heaving and the queues are obscene until you crack and pay the same price as the entry fee all over again to get a fastpass. Got hungry and went to Pizza Hut. Also heaving, and the only non-fizzy drink available (water) came from the same pump as all the soda, so tasted faintly of syrupy Coke. The final straw was when the family at the next table left a bagged up nappy right in the midle of their table as they left, with the bag all smeary with poo. DH had to restrain me.

All Merlin venues are a massive swizz.

Sarahtrue11 · 10/04/2021 16:38

I think the places are are told to go to are often a bit shit. We are toldthat good places for holidays are Spain, Italy, Greece, New York, LA etc. We are influenced by the media to go to the same tourist destinations.

It is the places off the standard tourist trail that are amazing.

I remember going to visit Romania , and some one said to me "why would you go there , it will be a dump".

Romania is stunningly beautiful. I loved my visit there. It is gorgeous.

Similiarly when I went on holiday to Albania, someone told me that it was bound to be shit and poor. It was gorgeous. A really beautiful country, Really nice

AliceBlueGown · 10/04/2021 16:38

Must agree with special school - DS spent one day each week in special school (we were trying it out on the advice of mainstream primary). It was dreadful on so many levels. Realise that lots of special schools are good - this one wasn't.

Figgygal · 10/04/2021 16:39

Wicked the musical everybody raves about it but I hated every minute of it it’s a one song show

Bloody loved Hamilton though Grin

Mmmmdanone · 10/04/2021 16:39

catherinecawood that's hilarious. I actually really enjoyed Popeye land but I could sort of see it was a bit shit iyswim! I think it was because my DD loved it and the massively unconvincing Popeye and olive oil were really kind to her. 🤣

the80sweregreat · 10/04/2021 16:40

I didn't like Harry Potter world much either.
When I said to the young girl ' I thought there might be rides ' ( pre train days) she looked horrified and said ' it's a museum , not a theme park ! ' told me!
I thought that the mock up shops would be selling things , but they just had one big gift shop and the food court bit was overpriced.
I'm not that hard to please really , but I think I'm just an old grump on days out ( back in the day)
Plus everything is such a rip off price wise.

LunaNorth · 10/04/2021 16:40
@LunaNorth what did Gorden Ramsey do to the restaurant at Claridges?
The first time I went was before he took it over. The dining room was absolutely beautiful and the food and service exemplary.

After he took it over they rejigged the restaurant so breakfast was served in what felt like the foyer, and the dining room itself was sort of long and thin. XH and I were marooned in the middle of what felt like a long corridor.

The food, when it came, was unbearably salty. We asked for cheese, and after having to remind the waiter twice were presented with a scabby, picked-over selection.

The price of the meal was astronomical. I complained, and for my trouble was taken on a tour of the kitchen Confused

It was as if they were showing me the scene of the crime.

I’m afraid too much wine and too little food meant I might not have been too polite. I’ve not been back since.

Sooverthis1 · 10/04/2021 16:40

@the80sweregreat omg sooooo spot on! My dh loves it though and has bought a load of new camping stuff recently and really wants me to come along again... literally nice for about 5 mins with a glass of wine and then hours of getting cold and trying to get hyper dcs to bed v late and then they all wake at 5am..
Some of these are so , so funny!! Surprised by New Zealand as we are literally sold an idea of paradise there but maybe it's due to the whole covid not being a permanent resident there !

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2021 16:40

@Cattenberg

I was planning to go to Paris for DD’s first trip abroad, but maybe we’ll go somewhere else.

I’ve just read The Slap and now I’m surprised by the rave reviews. Horrible, shallow, cowardly characters who never seemed to develop as people or learn anything. And it was full of racist language.

Go to Budapest or Vienna. Great city breaks and definitely underrated.

Christmas Markets in general are always a disaster. Crowded, over priced and full of stuff I don't want. And I love Christmas.

Also Santa's grottos. God they suck. Grotto by name...
