To ask what you dreamed would be fabulous but is actually maybe a bit shit

I think this about lots of things to do with celebrity lives, when I was younger I thought it all would amazing now not so sure.

A particular one I have is that I always longed for a villa on the Italian lakes. We went to a hotel there one year for 5 days ( in the same village as George Clooney ) It pissed down for 3 days. Everything was dark and damp and that combined with the endless queuing for flights and the thought of maintaining a property in another country sort of did for the dream. Not achievable without a lottery win anyway but now I don't even want it.

Anyone else got stuff like this or that they actually got and then thought 'meh'. I seem to have it about more and more things as I get on - I just don't want stuff anymore. Is it just to do with age?

Working from home. Thought it would be great.

It's actually lonely isolating and depressing.

Can't see how anyone could like it except as a reason to spend less time actually working and more time doing other personal / family stuff during work time.

Being an adult. It's shit and I give it one star. In retrospect, I was at my best aged 8 to 11. Fulfilling all my potential and living my best life 👍

Winter Wonderland in London

It sounded so magical. What a let down. Lots of stalls selling the same crap that stalls in every town centre across the country in December. Overpriced food and drink. The ice sculptures were good but it really wasn't worth the trip just for that.

Paris. Smell of wee everywhere, very dirty,.groups of men everywhere either trying to sell you tat or just being generally anti-social, so many beggars on streets and metro. Didn't feel safe at all. Been there four times and each subsequent time tried to keep an open mind but was just disappointed.

I am a huge francophile and speak French and have spent much time is some beautiful places there, but Paris has disappointed me. And I've lived half my life in London so not cityphobic. Puzzles me why i can't see past the bad things and enjoy Paris .

I concur with Legoland. And we go on 'exclusive' days with DHs work so the queues are shorter. It's all a bit crap really and the DC have outgrown it at 9 and 7.

DH would say Disneyland Paris. I've been before so was excited to take the DC. DH had Florida in his head and wouldn't listen when I told him it was the size of Alton Towers, so he was inevitably disappointed. I find think it helped that they were renovating the railway and the main hotel so we walked around A LOT of boarded up sections.

Having a big house. I realise as I've got older that I like somewhere to feel cosy, and when I've been to properties that are much bigger spaces (esp if open plan) I can appreciate the 'look' but I wouldn't want it for myself. Also I realise how annoying my house is to clean and heat and I definitely wouldn't want more of that to do!

We bought a small terrace as our first house and I assumed we'd buy something bigger in time but actually I quite like the idea of staying here and never having a bigger mortgage. We don't have kids though and appreciate that makes a big difference as to how much space is comfortable!

@hitsvilleuk

I have a soda stream as drink lots of sparkling water. It's to save on plastic bottles. It's OK, I'm not sure I'd make cola or lemonade with it. But definitely fulfilling a childhood dream 😂😂

Disneyland Paris was really lame. Our kids ended up playing with our friends kids in one of their tiny parks! We were 🙄 we could have just gone to the park down the road at home! Lots of queues (and queue jumpers). Disney California was fun though. Weird how many English see Disney as some quasi magical mystical experience if your kids don’t go they are doomed etc the Americans we met see it as just another theme park.

Don’t get Paris comment tbh it’s awesome we go a lot with teens. Parts are so beautiful. We stayed in Montmatre last time even teens loved it.

Also, holiday destinations when I was in my teens/twenties that were meant to be great for clubbing.
I was very into clubbing in the UK so thought it would be good. The places we tried abroad turned out to be naff/cheesy dance music, far too many drunk people. Like the content of a provincial town club but hotter.

@Mistletoekids

Feel the same as you working from home. Great for a purpose such as getting boiler repaired but i find it isolating and cannot wait to be back in office.

I wasn't keen on Disneyland Paris. The hotel buffet breakfast was nothing but a food fight and the queues annoyed me after a while ( even though I was part of the problem just being there!)
I remember Chessington when it was just a zoo and just one carousel! Theme parks rarely live up to their hype though.

Men's singles finals at Wimbledon. I was a massive tennis fan and my dad got tickets somehow. It was so hot that my top was sticking to my seat, and Sampras won in three sets without dropping a service game.

Christmas markets. They can be anywhere, from Bonne to Birmingham, but they all sell exactly the same tat and indentikit gluewine, hotdogs etc. No matter what country you're in.

Marriage. Also agree with Mr Frosty. Always wanted one as a kid, never got one so when I had kids I thought right, at last!! Bought them one and it was utterly shite 😂

Rick Steins restaurant. No specials board or catch of the day up (at the time) but did have a Lobster event on. I ended up something that was sold as lobster mousse Wellington but was more like a scampi flavoured pasty 🙁 x

Florida holiday.

When I was a kid I went to school with families who were very wealthy and so many of my friends went to Florida. I dreamed of going one day and finally we did in 2016. The kids loved it and we had a great time together, but I was exhausted by the end and all that ££££ for quite a lot of waiting around!

Working from home.

A trip to SeaLife (in the UK). It's gone down in family history as the most disappointing, boring day trip we've ever done - and we're fairly easily pleased usually!

And yes, Paris was horrid, one of the worst places I have ever been, made mych worse by the aggressive men trying to sell you bracelets or model eiffel towers.

Went whale watching in New Zealand. I was so seasick (most others on board were too). Couldn't wait to get off and never, ever do that activity again.

The pyramids. Always loved Egyptian history was so excited to go. They are right next to a massive city not in the middle of a desert as pictures suggest, rubbish everywhere, people pestering constantly. There is even a Pizza Hut right opposite them!!! So sad.
