What drama have you witnessed at a wedding?

I've been watching a lot of tv in recent months and there is always a lot of drama at weddings. Fights, declarations of love, speaking now instead of forever holding peace, has anyone ever seen any drama unfold at a wedding?

Name changed for this. I've seen a man at a wedding get very drunk and touch up one woman, get punched by the partner and then do something similar to another woman and get punched again. He was a groomsman.

I agree weddings are always dramatic in drama, especially soaps. So are funerals.

In real life I haven't witnessed such but did know one where everyone had food poisoning after the very lavish reception.

Not drama as such but we were invited to the wedding of one of DH's driving pupils. Huge Sikh wedding, loads of people. After the ceremony DS, who was about 3 at the time, said he needed the toilet. DH took him while I chatted to the family & friends.

DS & DH come back & DS shouts across the room 'It's okay mummy, I didn't need a poo after all. It was only a big trump!'

JUST as the room had been asked to 'pray silence for the entrance of the bride & groom'.

I was mortified but luckily everyone thought it was funny and DS had a huge fuss made of him for the rest of the do.

Someone murdered in a drunken fight

What the HELL?!

Penners99 · 30/11/2020 18:11

The groom was arrested by armed police before the bride had arrived at the church.

She was a tad upset when she (finally) arrived!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/11/2020 18:12

Another fight; groom with bride's uncle, bride's brother with cousin, groom's father with the best man - basically most of the key men were involved in fighting someone

Oh, and the groom decamped with his new wife's aunt 3 weeks after the wedding

HuggedTheRedwoods · 30/11/2020 18:15

Cousin of the groom threatening to punch the brides 'lights out' (her words) as she felt the bride hadn't circulated around her family table as much as she should've. She tried to lunge at the bride, it all kicked off and the bride and groom left the reception and didn't return.

Bride and Groom both disappeared to take a line of coke before the evening event. Their first dance was under a UV light that then showed each of them with a massive white moustache. All their friends laughing at this and the parents/ children Luder relatives all bemused.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 30/11/2020 18:22

A couple had sex in the ladies loos...

her husband was on the dancefloor at the time (completely bloody oblivious).

Oh and it was my wedding! (I was livid - it was 2 work colleagues of DH's, one was leaving that week). Whenever anyone talks about our wedding THAT is what they remember... It's a funny anecdote now (20+ years later) but it wasn't so funny when it was all my Mum's workmates talked about on the Monday morning! Grin

Ewanispurple · 30/11/2020 18:23

@Chottie I think we were at the same Wedding!

netstaller · 30/11/2020 18:27

Stepsister of the Groom decided that her reception speech was the perfect time to disclose the groom was the father of her 8 week old baby...Chaos ensued
Please give more details! That's insane!
Bitcherama · 30/11/2020 18:27

One where someone shouted out in the "just cause and impediment" bit that the groom was married already. The vicar took them and couple off into the vestry then returned to announce everyone should go home. Woooooah, fallout!

ProudAuntie76 · 30/11/2020 18:27

Groomsman pulled up the sister of the groom for a dance. She repeatedly said no and explained she didn’t know what to do as she’d never danced with anyone before and was very shy and embarrassed. Totally scarlett, shaking her head and he’s trying to drag her out her seat. Mother of the groom told her off and said she was to dance with the “nice man” and stop being so rude. He was really drunk but managed to refrain from getting handsy although the poor girl looked really uncomfortable. Midway through he exposed himself to her (intentionally but drunkenly). Like just stood in front of her and pulled up his kilt and stood there proud as punch. Says something like “what you’ve never danced with a fella before?! Come off it! Next you’re gonna tell me you’ve not seen one of THESE before either” and just sort of waves it around.

She was white as a sheet and frozen to the spot. Bridesmaids run over saying “WHAT THE FUCK MAN?!?!” and almost forming a human shield around her. Chief bridesmaid drags her out the room and sits her down outside.

Bunch of Groomsmen stood laughing their heads off, congratulating willy waving Groomsman.

Bridesmaids shouting “you should be ashamed of yourselves. You’re disgusting! You stupid fuckers etc!”

Groom comes over, not even angry just in shock and says “did you just flash my little sister?!”

Bunch of “she’s not that little”, “she may be your sister, but she’s not mine” “bro you’re sister is FIT” comments from the groomsmen etc.

And then the bombshell.

“MY SISTER IS THIRTEEN YOU DICKHEAD”

I’ve never seen a group of men lose all their colour so fast. The atmosphere just changed in a second.

To make matters worse, he then just kept trying to find her and apologise for the rest of the night and sort of “befriend her” and the poor girl kept avoiding eye contact and looked like she wanted the ground to swallow her up. She was blaming herself as it was her first time wearing makeup and an expensive dress and thought she’d encouraged it through that. The weirdest thing was that her parents didn’t really react at all to be honest. You’d think they’d have punched him! The face off between the bridesmaids and groomsmen was a sight to behold. The whole night it kept kicking back off...the men trying to say she looked older than her age and the women saying it’s no excuse, there’s no justification etc. Often think of that poor kid and hope wasn’t put off men for life!

Our maid of honour and best man were found in bed together the next morning. So cliched...

Dear Lord! I hate to derail and be so blatantly nosy but what happened next?
Pantheon · 30/11/2020 18:29

The mother of the groom wore a white, lacy dress Shock it wasn't full length, but still. Upset the bride and caused a bit of a stir

Talcott2007 · 30/11/2020 18:31

Not as dramatic as most but my at a cousins wedding the choice of bridesmaids dresses coused a fair bit of drama. Plain black low cut, strapless see-through in the light and VERY short- genuinely i mean actually so short that you could see underwear with every step up the ailse let alone them needing to bend over. You could see how uncomfortable the poor girls all were and constantly readjusting themselves - pulling things and down. Means probably fine if you like that sort of thing for a nightclub but It was just so odd at the wedding as everything eles about the day and 'style's was classy/normal/quite traditional.

Friendshighschool · 30/11/2020 18:33

The bride was bladdered when she turned up. She and her bridesmaid drank a litre each of vodka plus champagne and went to bed at 3 am. Up and started drinking again. You could smell it on both of them when they walked down the aisle.

The groom was rightly upset. There was a huge argument at the end of the night when everyone had left. DH was best man so we stayed over. They didn’t sleep in the same room. I don’t know where the bride slept to this day but we had their daughter in with us.

This was DH and I first night away after DS was a born and he was with a relative. It was a nightmare.

Bearfrills · 30/11/2020 18:34

Anyone else just checking the thread to see if their wedding has been mentioned..? Grin

ParkheadParadise · 30/11/2020 18:34

My Sil marched across the floor and slapped the bridesmaid's face. She was dancing with my brother (best man) at the time.
My Sil is a nutjob when alcohol is involved.

AliceMck · 30/11/2020 18:35

Not as exciting as some of these, but I went to a friends wedding (groom). There was a very big deal game happening in the same city ( not in the UK) my Ex-DH had been offered free tickets & wanted to go, I said no he had to come to the wedding, he pulled as did mist of the sports crazed men & a few woman, none could believe the bride & groom hadn't checked the date. Anyway come to the wedding speeches and the father of the bride was no where to be seen, neither were most of the male wedding guests, they had all snuck off to an English pub to watch the game, including my ex-DH, I'd given him the ok, as all the other wifes at our table had done. The poor bride was not happy at all. Didn't help that England got slaughtered and the FOB was in a bad mood when he got back.

Oldbutstillgotit · 30/11/2020 18:36

Not me but a friend was at a wedding where the groom was caught having sex with a bridesmaid in a bathroom .
For some reason everyone blamed the bridesmaid rather the groom !!

Highfivemum · 30/11/2020 18:36

Not as dramatic as some of these 😳😳 but my friends wedding her Dad fell out of the car and smacked his face on the Floor. Lost his front teeth and broke his nose. It was so so sad as he didnt walk her down th aisle as he was in A and E

Fruitshootloop · 30/11/2020 18:38

Father of the groom made an impromptu (totally pissed) speech and announced that the bride was “knocked up” and that it was a “fucking shot gun wedding”. Bride and her mother both cried.

slipperywhensparticus · 30/11/2020 18:38

Sister of the bride screaming there were fucking kids climbing all over her car (new car) bride denied all knowledge of her nephews by marriage

Different wedding groom chased bride up the street with a carving knife thank the lord the bride was sprinter groom arrested surprisingly this was not the end of the marriage they stayed together Confused

The morning after our wedding. DH and I had stayed over in the bridal suite at the hotel after the wedding reception which had taken place in the hotel annexe behind the main building. After breakfast our best man came over to help us gather up our gifts, cake etc that had been locked in the reception room. Important point: this was before the days of the internet (late 80s). The three of us walked into the annexe to find a room full of men sitting in near darkness watching porn films. Apparently the hotel manager had found an enterprising way of maximising income by showing porn films on Sunday mornings. The three of us had to treck to and fro across the room in front of the screen until we had gathered all of our belongings. This was quite a naice hotel in the centre of a small town.
