I’m building a time machine, to go back to the 80’s.

Just for the weekend.
They’ve just played ‘Together in electrics dreams’ on the radio and it’s left me aching for my youth.
So, for just this weekend only, I don’t want to be almost 45, I don’t want to keep hearing my kids squabbling with each other, I don’t want any responsibilities or to worry about the state of the world.
No, what I want is to go to the school disco tonight, I want to spend hours perfecting my gaudy sparkly make up, I want to wear my new ra-ra skirt or my batwinged jumpsuit, I want to hot brush my hair into an 80’s flick (with the help of a whole can of ozone-unfriendly hairspray!) and I want to smear my lips with that spearmint flavoured lip gloss from that little glass bottle with the roller ball and dance the (earl Your) evening away to Wham!, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, Madonna and the like.
When I get up on Saturday morning (about 10am, I want to watch kids morning tv, for breakfast, I want my dad to cook his famous French toast (eggy bread really but French toast sounded posh), I want to go into town with my mates and buy the No.1 single from Our Price, I want to go to Top Shop and look at the posters in Athena and have a knickerbocker glory at The Wimpy. I want to spend the afternoon watching Knight Rider, Chips, The Fall Guy, Murder She Wrote, Hart to Hart and The Golden Girls.
On Sunday, I want to help dad wash the car in the morning (never did that in real life but my nostalgic brain tells me I did!), I want to eat my mum’s lovely Sunday roast and not worry how many calories, saturated fats, gluten or other nasties are in it. I want to see my much loved and missed grand parents and hug our lovely beloved family dog.
But most of all, I want to tape the Top 40, being careful not to get Bruno Brooke’s voice in at the end of each song ( that took great skill and judgement!)
So, does anyone fancy joining me for a trip back to the 80’s this weekend?
Refreshments on the journey will include, Panda cola, Clearly Canadian, Lilt and Quatro to drink and Spangles, Marathon bars (NOT snickers!), fruit salads and black jacks and 54321 bars ( E numbers included, yum!) to snack on.

I'm coming too, had my tea so now going to the chippy with the one friend who can drive and getting a bag of chips and a five alive and maybe a mars bar! Luckily it's right next to the video shop so we can get a classic video like Rocky or Jaws, probably watch Dallas first though and Hammer House of Horror later, then walk home. Might nip into the co-op for some cider first...

Mid 80s uper excited to have tickets for David Bowie concert but also a big fan of King! Will also see Paul Young, Dire Straits and Bruce Springsteen this decade.

Loved Impulse, suede pixie boots, batwing jumper, collars up on shirts with 'pearls', Sun In for highlights after realising shaders and toners didn't do much, salt and vinegar rock 'n' rollers crisps, Charlie, Tweed, Rive Gauche and Anais Anais. Wanted to be a Charlie's Angel (Sabrina) - that might have been late 70s though.

Loved the movies, Top Gun, Fame, Footloose, Flashdance, Streets of Fire, Outsiders, That was then, this is now, Breakfast Club, St Elmo's Fire, Indiana Jones

80s were the best

Twoweekcruise · 02/02/2018 20:14

We would have to get to our video shop early cause if those little tabs were on the cover you knew all the latest films were out and you would have to try again next week 😤

Can I come tooooo please!! Although I was a little younger than you in the 80s but I still remember it all and my teens were the very early 90s and I miss it so much!
I've always said if I had one wish I'd go back in time for a day, ahhhh if only.

StealthPolarBear · 02/02/2018 20:15

If we're in the 80s, it's my bed time :o

Twoweekcruise · 02/02/2018 20:18

When I get back to the 80’s I’m going to stuff myself silly because I know I won’t have to think of the calories, I’ll look forward to a lovely sound, dreamless nights sleep with no worries (or having to share my precious bed with a snoring, farting oaf) and I’ll look in the mirror at my lovely young, fresh face and tell myself ‘you are perfect just the way you are!’.

This thread's great, but it's also made me feel a bit sad too, for all the people I've lost since then Sad

Does anyone want to borrow my hair crimpers? Looking forward to Spangles I miss those

ICantFightThisFeelingAnyLonger · 02/02/2018 20:37

I'm in too wearing my white tassel boots from Saxone. Also got my Lipcote at the ready to sting like hell trying to keep my No17 twilight teaser lippy in place. Those were the days Smile

epicclusterfuck · 02/02/2018 20:37

And opal fruits, also partial to a mint cracknell and toffee bonbons

judgejudyandexecutioner · 02/02/2018 20:37

I had twilight teaser too it went so well with my blue mascara!

CraftyGin · 02/02/2018 20:38

I loved my ra-ra skirt, and white jumpsuit with gold embellishes.

ICantFightThisFeelingAnyLonger · 02/02/2018 20:40

Oh I forgot to do my DuoTan, never mind I'll wear my jumbo cords instead

judgejudyandexecutioner · 02/02/2018 20:41

I will be wearing my satin turquoise trousers and my frilly shirt. With my white canvas high heeled boots from Miss Selfridge

drumandthebass · 02/02/2018 20:42

I hadn't given the mint lip gloss another thought until you mentioned it. I used to pop the roller ball off and drink it 🤮

Happy days 😔

judgejudyandexecutioner · 02/02/2018 20:44

Caribbean Queen,
Now we're sharing the same dream
And our hearts they beat as one
No more love on the run......

wanderings · 02/02/2018 20:48

I'll bring the video cassettes of Grange Hill! And let's all plot to murder Gripper Stebson. (Right now I'm on a binge of watching these on YouTube - Stebson was a right little toerag, and Mrs McClusky was Margaret Thatcher in charge of state education.)

judgejudyandexecutioner · 02/02/2018 20:49

Ooh I fancied Tucker so much!

dottyaboutstripes · 02/02/2018 20:51

I'll have a P please Bob.
God I loved my perm so much.
Can we meet down at the Wimpy?

dustarr73 · 02/02/2018 20:53

epicclusterfuck · 02/02/2018 20:56

Spot the rock'n' rollers

I’m building a time machine, to go back to the 80’s.
Anasnake · 02/02/2018 20:59

I might try and sneak in some Peach Concorde or Thunderbird

epicclusterfuck · 02/02/2018 21:03

Loved Grange Hill but hated school... used to come home and grab some snacks, McVities United chocolate biscuit and a packet of KP mini chips

Thinkingofausername1 · 02/02/2018 21:04

I have been thinking similar things recently. Times have changed so much. I want to play the top 40 on a Sunday again. I want someone to phone me Instead of messaging me! And last but not least, i want to get a pick n mix from Woolworths!

hmmwhatatodo · 02/02/2018 21:04

Mid 1980s I’ll be hiding under my duvet reading Mallory towers and the worst witch over and over again.

Later I’ll be recording various songs off the radio on the Hifi that is the size of a fridge freezer.
