With a human skull in the garden?

Slippersandacuppa · 07/05/2016 20:45

Because I've never been in this situation before.

We've been tidying up the garden and have piles of rubble all over the place. One of our rickety old fences borders a graveyard (very old belonging to ancient church) and I'm assuming the skull sort of drifted under our fence and has been near the top of the soil for a while. I hope.

I've googled but can't seem to find much info. I'll be contacting the parish council on Monday but wondered if it warrants a call to 101 (or whatever it is) to register it just in case it's not a graveyard wanderer Confused

Anyone had a similar experience?!

I'd be quite willing to send some of the local kids to investigate cellars/bomb shelters, I'm sure they'd be up for it.

LMGTFY · 11/05/2016 13:47

I am very disappointed with my boring garden now. I took up the decking, no bomb shelter and created a border, no bodies -tons of massive pebbles that were a nightmare to dig out mind you Angry

As H&S monitor can I also recommend knee pads and a sturdy stick? It might also be kinder to provide a torch and lashings of homemade lemonade and cake.

I was wondering what task I could volunteer for at the dig/picnic/garden party/knees-up, I think I have found my niche as a H&S risk assessor.

I could bring my own clipboard and bossy nature.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2016 14:01

now I think of it

It's amazing how these underground crypts get forgotten about... :o

HelenaJustina · 11/05/2016 14:13

Vital to have H&S on board, as long as you are also fluent in corporate-speak Silver I think you'll be a tremendous asset, logistically speaking, going forward and downward

CatThiefkeith · 11/05/2016 14:15

I used to live in a pub with a bricked up archway in the cellar. My dad knocked a hole in it to see if there was a tunnel behind it and all he found was a wall of solid earth. Twas very disappointing.

RattieOfCatan · 11/05/2016 14:27

This is brilliant Grin Poor Yorick all alone at the police station though :(

I remember when I was a kid they had a few buildings demolished in Colchester near the town centre and found various interesting bits. So they opened it up to the public whilst the archaeologists were working, it was pretty cool. I lived down the road and my Mum was always finding out about things like that, I remember going to a few of these "open digs" over the years where people had discovered "something" in demolitions or when building and they had to get archaeologists in.

SilverBirchWithout · 11/05/2016 14:31

Helena I can certainly step-up to that plate and square that circle.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2016 14:48

all he found was a wall of solid earth

But what was behind the wall of earth! He should have dug it out and kept digging. If only he'd been on MN...

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 11/05/2016 14:55

I have a hiviz vest I can bring along for the H&S supplies

CatThiefkeith · 11/05/2016 17:06

AFAIK it's still there SoupDragon. Maybe we should all rock up the The White Horse and excavate it while we are waiting for news of Yorrick.

I'm sure the current landlord wont mind. Grin

SoupDragon · 11/05/2016 18:17

What could possibly go wrong, eh?

RedOnHerHedd · 11/05/2016 23:54

Just caught up on today's part of this thread. So, we now have everything we need, including obligatory H&S killjoy officer (you do know that bugs LOVE those hi viz jackets don't you?

Also where do we get the archaeologists hats, you know the ones with the brim all the way round?

Anyway...
Meanwhile, somewhere under OPs drive/tunnel...

You have a cellar ....... ? A bricked up cellar ........... ?
This won't end well, you mark my words!

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 12/05/2016 07:44

Here's my pants attempt. Going to arm myself properly, get backup (two year old was less helpful than I'd hoped) and go in again.

Kudos to you OP - with your skulls and your hitherto mysteriously forgotten about boarded-up cellars, you are really spoiling us.

RedOnHerHedd · 12/05/2016 08:18

Two year olds these days just have no idea!

OP, what you need is one of those lamps that they use for lamping. Big and bright. Will light the whole tunnel all the way to the church. THEN take a photo.

We're all behind you hiding under the stairs just in case you scream.

RedOnHerHedd · 12/05/2016 08:28

Hope you don't mind OP, but I took it upon myself to do a bit of enhancing on your pic, and this is what I came up with:

Funko · 12/05/2016 08:35

There's a face on the top right hand rock 😂

RedOnHerHedd · 12/05/2016 08:36

OP, do you have a small dog? Or can you borrow one? Attach a night vision camera to him and chuck him through the gap and tell him to "go fetch". And then post the video.

RedOnHerHedd · 12/05/2016 08:37

Funko I noticed that too, I think it's YS's long lost brother.

WakeUpFast · 12/05/2016 09:39

A cellar?! You have a cellar?! You know what lurks in cellars don't you? Witches, ghosts, walkers and Freddy Krugers. That's what. You need a Ghost Busting team aswell. Now I would volunteer but then that leaves no one incharge of the all important brushy things Hmm Grin

Maybe your house was Yorick's old house and he has the rest of his family in the cellar? 😱

Elledouble · 12/05/2016 10:15

I'm gutted, my house is so boring Sad it's a modern-ish one that's been built onto a Victorian terrace, I did some research to see if the original house had been bombed in the war (there were definitely houses nearby that were blitzed) but no, apparently not.
