To ask what is the strangest/creepiest thing that has ever happened to you?

JudgeyHotPants · 22/12/2014 13:24

I have two strange/creepy unexplained events that stick in my head.

The first happened when I was teenager, my DF ran his business from our family home and we had a phone/fax machine in the living room. Whenever we picked up the phone we could always hear a radio station playing very distantly on the other end. I'll never forget the time I picked up the phone to ring a friend and could hear Penny Lane playing!

The other is slightly more sinister. My DM and I were at home alone one evening, it was summer and still warm and I had the bedroom window open. I can remember hearing a loud crash in the garden, thought maybe the cat had knocked something over and thought little of it. Then my mum suddenly popped her head around the door told me that she was going to bed and that she'd "locked all of the doors". Thought it was an odd thing to say, but thought little of it. That night I was kept awake by the next door neighbours security light going on and off, and when I got up the next morning my DM pointed out that the garden ornaments and solar lights from next to the fence had been smashed.

That's when she told me that she to and heard the crashing sound the night before, and got up to investigate and when she looked through the kitchen window she was convinced she could see a person peering through the window, as as if they were standing next to it with their back against the wall and peeing in from the side, but wasn't sure if she was seeing things or not! She was scared enough to lock all of the doors, but not to ring he police it seems! Still freaks me out now! I'm sure someone was in our garden for whatever reason!

I forgot to add that my Aunt had another story called 'The Red Curtain', but always said it was far too frightening to tell me. I begged her many times but she never would. She died many years ago and I've often wondered what was behind that red curtain?

TipsyMcStaggers · 25/12/2014 12:10

A few years ago I saw a clairvoyant. She asked if I'd ever been to America. I said no and thought I never will because I hate flying so anything that far away is a no no. A couple of years later I went to Tenerife with an ex. We stayed in Playa de las Americas resort in Hotel California. I remembered all of a sudden when we were there, bloody creepy

Hatespiders · 25/12/2014 12:15

JuanDirection, that's so funny! I bet he really looked the part in his monk's clothes, they must have been terrified! Grin

Cariad007 · 25/12/2014 12:26

Could this be the mysterious curtains story?

Hatespiders · 25/12/2014 12:31

Wow Cariad!! I think it very well could be!! My aunt was well-educated and worked as a drama tutor in a college. She could easily have come across this story, as it seems it's an old Russian legend. Blow me, I'm 70 now and this is the first time ever I've heard The Red Curtain/s! That's weird in itself. Thank you so much!

JuanDirection · 25/12/2014 12:32

Yeah Hatespiders - I imagine they've been telling people for years now about the night they saw a ghost, haha!

winkywinkola · 25/12/2014 16:45

Watching thread. Love these!

My son and I walked into our house one day to see a ball of fire hovering about 2 metres off the floor. The flames went round in a perfect sphere a little smaller than a football. It went pffft after a few seconds and disappeared.

I believe it is a known phenomena with no definite explanation except it could be related to lightening storms. It did storm that day, but hours later.

BreakWindandFire · 25/12/2014 18:14

There's another red curtains ghost story which is even scarier!

I used to live on Mare Street in Hackney...in case you don't know it, it's a very long, "main" street with lots of shops etc. But at night, after all the bars closed it was so quiet.

One night I was woken up at about 3.00am by this unearthly noise, it was a most awful, dreadfully sad howling noise.

I looked out of the window and saw this dredlocked man walking slowly along the middle of the road howling and moaning.

I could hear him for ages as he was so loud. He sounded absolutely desolate and it was awful. I saw him about 4 times over 3 years. And used to worry about him.

Spadequeen · 25/12/2014 19:56

My dm told me a story about a dream shed had, she was in a room she wasn't supposed to be in and it was full of gravestones with a boys face on it, well teenager like her I think. Se thought nothing of it, a few weeks later, her group of friends met this guy and started hanging out with him, she couldn't talk to him though as it was the boy for her dream. I think he died some time after in a motorbike crash

Spadequeen · 25/12/2014 19:57

I've got loads of a bit woo ones like that but the scariest by far on here are the two close calls with the murderers, terrifying.

Buttercupsanddaisys · 25/12/2014 20:19

Some of these 'what if' tales(thinking Fred west, etc.) are really frightening.

Mine's more a story of heightened awareness at a time of extreme stress, I think.

My oh was dying, raging against the night, not going quietly...we'd moved country to get the dx and treatment from a h.with a brill neurological dept. I'd been able to find a cottage let within the area but knew no-one.

We'd not been there long before the adjoining cottage was let, man and dog. We guessed it was a fck off And take your fcking dog with you scenario, and so it was. He was a teacher and rode to work on his motorbike.

We three became good friends and I had keys to his place and walked the dog, etc., then, as my oh became more mentally unstable and unreasonable (and why not-he was dying and it never was going to be a 'good' death, poor sod) anyway, while my stresses increased so did our friend's with his situation, and he and I would meet in the town after school for a half-hour or so to chill . We'd found the cathedral coffee bar and not only was the coffee good , walking through the cloisters was deff.good for the soulSmile before we returned to our domestic hells. I kept these meetings from oh.

One afternoon we'd arranged to meet. About 1/2hr or so before he was to arrive I was in the bar and suddenly became incredibly sad and tired, so tired. I knew he wasn't going to come and I knew I'd got to get back to walk the dog so left before our meet time to get the local bus back..

Got home, went straight to friend's cottage and took the dog over the fields, feeling a bit better by now, not so sad and tired, not so headachy,but...

Returned to our cottage and oh was frantic. He'd had a call from our friend in hospital. He'd been knocked off his motorbike, was being kept in A&E and could I please see to his dog til he returned?

Oh was cross with me that I was taking this so calmly- this was my friend after all?

But for me, everything became clear.

JuanDirection · 25/12/2014 21:12

Sorry to hear about your oh Buttercups.

Spadequeen what are your other stories? Woo threads are my favourite!

Spadequeen · 25/12/2014 21:37

Well, I used to be a nanny, the last live in job I had, I had the children overnight too if they woke up. The girl (5) would wake 2 or 3 nights a week, well she wouldn't wake but her screams would wake me! Se would have no memory in the morning but I was knackered!

Mentioned it to my mum and she suggested it could be something there and suggested I talked to it, so feeling like a complete idiot, the next day I went to her room and spoke to 'it', said that I would stop and chat whenever I was upstairs, would say goodnight and good morning but could it please let the girl sleep at night. Yes I know how mad this sounds!

So I did this and the night terrors stopped, immediately. Although on the nights I forgot to say goodnight she would wake and I would have to apologise.

TipsyMcStaggers · 25/12/2014 21:39

Spadequeen that's really creepy

IsabeauMichelle · 25/12/2014 21:39

I posted this on another thread recently.

So a few years ago, when me and DP were courting, we were at his place one night, very late, on the roof terrace. I went in to go to the loo and he shouted me back to say he could see a satellite I know, we're geeks so I came back outside.

While I was looking at the sky, a massive shape came across the sky right in front of my eyes. I said to DP, what's that? He said, what? I said WHAT.THE.FUCK.IS.THAT and he stood rooted to the spot with me while we watched it float silently across the sky for about a minute.

It was massive. Black, cylinder-shaped and completely silent. The silence was the scariest thing about it. It had a red marking on the outside of it, but I couldn't pay much attention, I thought I was going to pass out.

When it had gone, we were both stunned. We didn't speak for ages and then I cried. I didn't sleep all night long, and when I told people at work in the morning, I burst into tears again.

I've always wanted to see something, my whole life. But I wish I hadn't. It was the singular most terrifying moment of my life, and I'll never forget it.

raltheraffe · 25/12/2014 21:45

Isabeau I understand that you will have thought about the black object for a long time-I would if I saw it. So I have to ask you WHAT do you think it was? Aliens or some sort of top secret aircraft that we never find out about?

IsabeauMichelle · 25/12/2014 21:51

I honestly don't know raltheraffe. I've thought about any possibility. The feeling that I will always remember is that it felt so threatening. Not like we were going to be abducted, or invaded or anything, but this silent threat. And all night long I thought someone was going to come and kill me for seeing it. I know how ridiculous this all sounds, btw Grin

raltheraffe · 25/12/2014 21:56

It does not sound ridiculous at all. A few weeks ago DH and I were in the garden supervising our dogs go toilet (we always supervise them as it is a rough area and dogs keep getting stolen for baiting). Anyway we heard a series of loud bangs. It was like a shot repeater firework, but more echoey. DH is very good at distinguishing noises as he was born blind, so I asked him what the hell it was and he said he had never heard anything like that before. Anyway next day it was in Manchester evening news and then people all over the UK started hearing these bangs, it even trended on Twitter. Then it all suddenly stopped.

IsabeauMichelle · 25/12/2014 22:12

Ive heard about this. And we had the same thing happen where I am in the NW a good few months ago, DP woke me up to see if I'd heard it, he said it had shaken the house. It was all over the local FB pages, but never any explanation Confused

raltheraffe · 25/12/2014 22:15

and in the midst of the weird bangs the A1 got shut for no apparent reason.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/catterick-a1-explosion-recap-4716414

I think they were testing some spy plane or something else we will never get to hear about.

raltheraffe · 25/12/2014 22:16

Bet the spy plane had to stop on the A1 pit stop for a greasy bacon sandwich and there was a queue for the one grotty toilet.

IsabeauMichelle · 25/12/2014 22:34

Ha! Grin

ghostland · 25/12/2014 23:00

Years ago I was on the Northern Line and this man got on who I can only describe as looking like the devil. He was very tall, normally dressed and his face was normal except for his eyes which were unlike anything I had seen before or since. They were slanted in the most unnatural way (he was Caucasian) and I can't even describe them because I really haven't seen anything like them. What came straight into my mind at the time was that he is the devil, his eyes were that creepy. He stood next to me and I looked at the other passengers but nobody else seemed to be freaked out by his appearance. I wasn't on drugs or anything. I still think about it because he was 100% not right.
