To ask what is the strangest/creepiest thing that has ever happened to you?

JudgeyHotPants · 22/12/2014 13:24

I have two strange/creepy unexplained events that stick in my head.

The first happened when I was teenager, my DF ran his business from our family home and we had a phone/fax machine in the living room. Whenever we picked up the phone we could always hear a radio station playing very distantly on the other end. I'll never forget the time I picked up the phone to ring a friend and could hear Penny Lane playing!

The other is slightly more sinister. My DM and I were at home alone one evening, it was summer and still warm and I had the bedroom window open. I can remember hearing a loud crash in the garden, thought maybe the cat had knocked something over and thought little of it. Then my mum suddenly popped her head around the door told me that she was going to bed and that she'd "locked all of the doors". Thought it was an odd thing to say, but thought little of it. That night I was kept awake by the next door neighbours security light going on and off, and when I got up the next morning my DM pointed out that the garden ornaments and solar lights from next to the fence had been smashed.

That's when she told me that she to and heard the crashing sound the night before, and got up to investigate and when she looked through the kitchen window she was convinced she could see a person peering through the window, as as if they were standing next to it with their back against the wall and peeing in from the side, but wasn't sure if she was seeing things or not! She was scared enough to lock all of the doors, but not to ring he police it seems! Still freaks me out now! I'm sure someone was in our garden for whatever reason!

I have another one, same house as the last story.Anyway wasnt with dp long and we were sitting in teh house and i fancied some chips. So he says he will go.And off he went.So a few minutes went by and i heard walking around upstairs, beds being pulled across the room.

I was the only one in the house and i thought it was dp messing. So i said i go outside and sit on the wall and catch him coming out eh door to go to the shops.Anyway looks up the road ,have a guess who was coming down.It was dp.I have no way to get out eh back way to go to the shops its all enclosed.Should say the wall was on teh green and faces the house. So he didnt come out after me.

Same house dp was up during the night to get a drink of water. Our units in the kitchen are cream. He was standing looking out teh window when he became aware of someone behind him,he turned around and see a blck shadow cross over the units.

Another time he was messing upstairs going wooh and stuff. This was at a time when the "thing"[whatever it was]was most active.Next minute the bed flew across the room, well he ran down those stairs as quick as anything.

Im still in teh same house and its quietened alot. You dont really see or hear alot of things now.

Not so much 'woo' as weird. As a teenager, I used to have a recurring nightmare when I was stressed. I was lost at sea, in the dark, and there was a shark circling and getting closer (I'm terrified of sharks). I always woke up when the shark swam up at me and opened its mouth to eat me.

Here's where it gets weird: my sister went through a rough patch not long ago (sick kids, job issues, etc.) She started to have a recurring nightmare too: she was lost in the woods at night and there was a bear circling (she's terrified of bears) and getting closer. She always woke up when the bear got her and opened its mouth to eat her.

I have never told my sister about my nightmares and I heard about hers from my mom. It's basically the same nightmare. Just a different animal.

Any more?

SilverSamhainFairy · 14/05/2015 01:53

We live in a rattling old Victorian, several little things have happened over the years. In the past month, I have been woken by the sound of foot steps in our kitchen. This is terrifying to me as my husband works overnight in EMS. I discounted the first happening as a dream but last night was the fifth time it has occurred. I lay in bed listening to the sounds and also realised the kitchen light was on. I turn the light off every night as it shines into my bedroom and keeps me awake. I finally gathered the courage to creep out, phone firmly in hand and there was nothing amiss.

I would like to go to sleep and not be startled by these mystery foot steps..

sherbetlemonD · 14/05/2015 23:40

Think the most creepy was coming out of Tesco last year and some big fella coming up to me trying to make conversation and trying to get me to go over to my car. Clearly uncomfortable and people just strolled past and stared Hmm. I have a habit of remembering faces though- so i'll just say one word: karma Wink

airedailleurs · 20/05/2015 17:34

Dixie your stories are so moving and yet comforting. I understand that the white feathers phenomenon is quite common, although I've never experienced it.

McKayz · 27/05/2015 05:26

I have a new story. Not really creepy though.

I had a mc in 2012 and Sunday just gone would have been the child's birthday (if born on due date) and I always think about the baby but especially so on that date.

So it was about half 5 and I was doing a bit of washing up and a white dove landed on the wall in the garden. It sat there for about a minute before flying off again.

I have never seen any doves let alone a white one. We have a tiny paved yard and don't get too many birds. Maybe it's a regular visitor but as I usually just go watch TV with a coffee I haven't seen it before.

But it was comforting.

Years ago, DS1 was three and he and I had gone downstairs as usual in the morning. He was in front of me and as we walked past the sofa I noticed him pause and do a double take.
"Who's the black man on the sofa, Mummy?" He then asked.

There was nothing whatsoever on the sofa nor anywhere near it.

WanderWomble · 17/06/2015 13:08

I thought I'd add to this because I've enjoyed reading it!

My creepy stories:

When I was about 6 or 7, Mum had put me to bed. Just nodding off to sleep when something attacked me- raking it's nails over my scalp and face. I screamed the place down and my parents came rushing in. There wasn't a mark on me but I know what I felt.

Second one-

Staying in an old B&B for work. My room had a massive oak four poster bed that was extremely heavy. I can remember the landlady saying they had to take it to bits if they needed to move it for any reason. I thought the room felt a bit unfriendly but put it down to being cold and tired from a long day's travel.

Had a shower and went to bed, but had a hard time falling asleep. I was woken a few hours later by the bed shaking so hard it was slamming into the wall. I felt this sense of overwhelming evil and something started choking me. I think I must have passed out because the next thing I know, it's dawn and the sun is flooding into the room. I felt a sense of huge relief to see the sunlight!

When I looked in the mirror while getting ready, both eyes were incredibly bloodshot and I had weird bruise type marks on my neck. Creeped me the fuck out and I left that day. There's no rational explanation for how the bed could shake like that- it was massive and really very heavy. It had moved about six inches away from the wall- you could see the indents in the carpet from where it had been.

Wander Shock

WanderWomble · 17/06/2015 13:36

I know! I actually ended up going to a walk in clinic because my eyes were so bad that I wanted them checking out. Doctor and nurse were convinced that someone had tried to strangle me, but the marks on my throat looked nothing like hand prints/rope/whatever.

Ugh just talking about it now gives me the creeps.

FrankSpencer · 17/06/2015 13:47

Woah!

expatinscotland · 17/06/2015 13:56

And you didn't tell the proprietor, Womble? I'd have let her know.

WanderWomble · 17/06/2015 19:45

I was that shaken, I just wanted to get away. Did phone a couple of days later and tell them. The landlord said other people had had frights in that room but nothing like that! I'm fairly sure he closed the room up after that.

I haven't read through this whole thread yet but I want to throw in my friend's story. She lives in a house previously occupied by an old man who had died. There are the ruins of an older house on the same plot which was where he had grown up. It was a fixer-upper and as soon as the floors were ripped up to sort out plumbing (no running water) and electrics, the old guy's labrador who hung around all the time, refused to enter. Hackles up and growling, the whole deal. My friend is non-woo and just assumed that the dog didn't like the workers. Anyway, long story shorter, so many little things happened: kettle boiling of its own accord when only she was in the house, a figure in a grey jacket passing by the kitchen window - she assumed it was her partner home early, putting the rubbish bin back and went to check some time later where he was, nobody there. He fell asleep one afternoon and dreamt that a kids dressed ins 1920s style clothes were asking him to play, he'd been woken up by the sound of them running up and down a path that didn't exist.

Other things that happened were candles flickering when there was no breeze and, most spooky, the sound of a sledgehammer hitting the gable wall one night. Except the wall had been replaced by patio doors. Her partner remarked on it and she said "I bet it will stop once you get into bed". It did. They were never too concerned about it but I couldn't get out of the bathroom fast enough the time I'd visited, felt I was being watched. A friend called in a priest on their behalf. Once the priest had said his prayers, there was no more activity.

chloecorey2013 · 25/06/2015 08:10

WanderWomble · 25/06/2015 15:10

The B&B was in Scotland.

SymphonyofShadows · 28/06/2015 16:34

Found this thread in Classics and read it through over the weekend. IIRC the thing that chased the couple and looked at them through the door was a Stickman not slenderman. There are quite a few Stickman entries on Google. There is an old thread in Adult Fiction called something like Urban Legends that I posted on with under a previous NN. Some really scary stuff there for lovers of woo.
