To ask what is the strangest/creepiest thing that has ever happened to you?

JudgeyHotPants · 22/12/2014 13:24

I have two strange/creepy unexplained events that stick in my head.

The first happened when I was teenager, my DF ran his business from our family home and we had a phone/fax machine in the living room. Whenever we picked up the phone we could always hear a radio station playing very distantly on the other end. I'll never forget the time I picked up the phone to ring a friend and could hear Penny Lane playing!

The other is slightly more sinister. My DM and I were at home alone one evening, it was summer and still warm and I had the bedroom window open. I can remember hearing a loud crash in the garden, thought maybe the cat had knocked something over and thought little of it. Then my mum suddenly popped her head around the door told me that she was going to bed and that she'd "locked all of the doors". Thought it was an odd thing to say, but thought little of it. That night I was kept awake by the next door neighbours security light going on and off, and when I got up the next morning my DM pointed out that the garden ornaments and solar lights from next to the fence had been smashed.

That's when she told me that she to and heard the crashing sound the night before, and got up to investigate and when she looked through the kitchen window she was convinced she could see a person peering through the window, as as if they were standing next to it with their back against the wall and peeing in from the side, but wasn't sure if she was seeing things or not! She was scared enough to lock all of the doors, but not to ring he police it seems! Still freaks me out now! I'm sure someone was in our garden for whatever reason!

Blackout, I think a good way to think of that dream is your brain processing what has happened to you. Your dream is showing you clearly that your great choices mean you are prepared to protect your baby against a violent man. Not a premonition, more a sort of symbolic statement of what you would be prepared to do. You are great, well done. And best of luck. Thanks

Ok I've got another couple of stories to share. Kind of related to one another.

When I was 16 I had a part time job in a takeaway shop. My boss would always give me a lift home because he didn't like the idea of me getting the bus home on my own that late at night.
One night after we had closed up he was in the back doing the takings for the day and I was out front cleaning up and mopping the floor. I got this thought in my head out of nowhere that I just couldn't shake. After about 20 minutes my boss came out from the back, he asked me what was wrong (I think I must have been staring into space or something). I told him I just had a strange thought I couldn't shake. When he asked what it was I told him. I said, I keep getting the thought that I've lost a gold pen and it's stuck under a big stack of papers in a box.
He gave me this spooked look. He said he had an expensive gold pen that his father had given him for his birthday before he passed away and he had been looking for it for a couple of weeks. Two days later he found the pen in a box of paperwork that had been locked in the safe.

The second story happened a year or so later. I was having a drink with my ex boyfriends neighbour her house. I was 18 at the time and she was about 29, I can't remember why but it was just the two of us in her house that night. Anyway she started talking about her sister and how she had passed away as a child and that she never really got over it. Again I got another random thought from nowhere in my head, this time because I'd had a drink I blurted it out straight away without thinking. I said 'your mum gave you her bike but you never played on it'
She was a bit freaked because apparently it was true. Her mum did give her the sisters bike but she never played on it because she found it too upsetting. I can't explain how I knew that, I just did.

I love this thread.

When I was at university, we had a bout of really heavy snow. A bunch of us were out drinking in the hall of residence bar and when it closed, we went off in search of more booze (or possibly snacks - I can't remember). On our way, we passed the university's botanical gardens, which were near the halls of residence. There was what appeared to be a body under a bush. We were all really freaked out by this and didn't know whether to go and have a look or not, especially as there were reports of students being mugged by people pretending to be in trouble. The 'body' waved at us so one of the boys went over. There was a student lying in the snow. He was drunk. He told my friend his name and said he was from the city's other university - I'm not sure where their halls of residence were but they were nowhere near ours. My friend chatted to him for a while, made sure he was OK and saw he got back on his feet etc.

We thought nothing of it until a few days later, when there was an article in the local paper saying he had been found dead (of hyperthermia). I knew it was him as it was the same name. Awful, just awful.

Pumpkinette it would seem likely that you have a gift related to having the abilities of a medium and that you could choose to develop this if you wish

murmuration · 15/01/2015 12:51

Not woo, or probably even especially that weird, but this thread has made me remember it.

My first year in Uni I was woken in the middle of night by a loud banging on our dorm room door. We had bunk beds, and my roommate was on the bottom -- she got up, opened the door, leaned around it and said a few things, then closed to door and went back to bed. I thought to ask her what it was, but I was tired and fell back asleep. In the morning she didn't remember it all! I still wonder who it was.

In the realm of near-misses, when I was in school I was once sitting in my room not doing my homework. I was leaning far back in my chair staring up at the big glass covering of the light fixture in the room (about 2 ft x 2 ft square), finding patterns in the little bubbles in the glass (as I did...). Then I suddenly sat up without thinking about it you know how sometimes you do things, and only decide to do them after you've done them? Like you're in the bath thinking it's time to get out, but you don't quite do it, and then you find you've turned off the water and are about to stand up, and think, 'oh, so I guess I decided to get out then', well it was like that and there was a whoosh of air right behind me. I turned just as the glass cover to the fixture hit the ground and smashed into a zillion pieces. Had I not sat up right then it would have come down on my face.

Pumpkinette · 15/01/2015 13:24

I was told once that before Jessie, but not because of these stories. I got my palm read once and she said I had 'the mark' - the lines on my hand under my middle finger form a pentagram. I also have a pentagram on my astrology chart. - strange.

Given the proper woo thing that happened when I was a child (my previous story) I'm not sure it's something I would choose to develop.

Grumpyoldblonde · 15/01/2015 13:54

Lots of strange experiences, I have seen "the news" before the event happens many times, I read a newspaper article about a terrible bus crash years ago where many children were badly hurt, I even commented on it to work mates, the crash happened the next day, I also woke early one morning to hear the end of a news programme on the radio about an actor who had died, and I thought "Oh no that will be ..... (a not very well known actor I had a random crush on) - I heard the "real" news 2 days later. Recently, we had a relative in hospital, very ill, at 11.30am I suddenly had such a pain in my side it took my breath away and I actually wondered if I had sudden onset appendix problems, an hour later we heard our relative had died around an hour earlier, he had been bleeding from the bladder. I could go on, I can never explain these things, and tend to think it a coincidence

MissingTheTwinning · 15/01/2015 14:47

Not woo but creepy and I was scared to sleep for a good while afterwards.. also related to spiders and dreams.

When I was about 8 or 9, I was asleep and having a fairly normal dream. Until I noticed that there was a big shadow hanging over me - it looked like the shadow of a spider the size of my head. I tried to get away from this shadow in my dream, but it just kept getting bigger and closer. I started running, frantically.. and then woke up to the feeling of a spider landing on my face!! I instantly brushed it away then watched it scurry across my bedroom floor.

I think maybe I'd been sleeping with my eyes slightly open (my mum used to say I did this sometimes), and my brain was trying to warn me in the dream.

Rinoachicken · 15/01/2015 14:57

Not woo but strange - when I was maybe 10 or 11. Grew up in a village and me and my best mate used to go exploring up a lane that was popular for horseriding and dog walking.

One day in the summer holidays we found a small lake with an island in the centre with an old wooden hut on it. You couldn't see it from the lane, we only found it because we were nosy exploring.

We decided to come back the next day with our swimming gear and explore the hut.

As we were swimming across, two men shouted at us to get out, that it was private property and dangerous (oops!). They were very well spoken 'posh' sounding, wearing wax coats and caps etc.

We were scared, apologised and quickly got dried and dressed and left, but as we were leaving we turned to look back at he make and the two men were stood at the edge throwing what looked like records into the lake, frisbee style. Loads of them, one at a time.

Freaked us out big time and of course our overactive imaginations went into overdrive about what it could all mean!

theunhealthydowager · 15/01/2015 15:34

My only 'funny' experience is as follows... An ex used to wash dishes in a Soho restaurant, he was usually the last of the kitchen staff to leave at night. One night, after his shift, around midnight (when else?), he was getting changed in the basement storeroom, which was at the back of a bar area. As he was changing, he heard some whispering in a croaky, muffled voice. He looked up and in the corner stood an elderly lady staring at him as clear as day. She had fair hair pulled back in a bun, and very skinny. She wasn't scary looking, just kind of sad looking he said and her eyes had no pupils and were pure white. Terrified, he grabbed his clothes and ran upstairs to where the manageress was counting up. He didn't tell her what he'd seen, he just left in a hurry. He told me about it but I just thought he was seeing things, or he'd been on the wacky baccy.

A few weeks later, I went to meet him at the end of his shift. I waited for him to get changed in the same storeroom in the basement. As he did so he was telling me and one of the chef's who was sat at the bar drinking a beer with me, about the old lady he saw. The Chef just laughed. Ex came out of the storeroom and we were about to go, when - SLAM the door to the storeroom shut with unbelievable ferocity. The whole room seemed to shake. The manageress shouted down "what the hell was that"? We were all utterly stunned. The Chef got up and opened the storeroom door which was on a very strong door closer and couldn't of slammed shut normally. Also it was being propped open with a big, industrial size bottle of dishwasher liquid that could barely be lifted up. This bottle was pushed about 2 metres away and was in the middle of the storeroom floor. We all ran out - all of us. Scared the shit out of us that one, still does.

When DH and first started dating in our late teens we decided to go on a little holiday -just a cheap long weekend in a little rural cottage in Wales. We arrived and from the very moment I entered the cottage I had a terrible feeling. It was nicely decorated, bright and sunny, but felt oppressive and sad -almost 'heavy'. It scared me - and I'm not in the slightest bit woo at all. Pulled myself together, didn't mention it to DH and got on with the weekend. When we went to bed that night I just couldn't sleep at all; I continuously felt I had to watch the door as if I turned something would come in. It was an awful feeling -I had about 2 hours sleep and woke up exhausted. Looking out of the upstairs window, I noticed the view was of a churchyard bizarrely fenced with really high barbed wire -like a 6ft plus fence; it didn't help my feeling that it was a bit of an odd place! Stayed one more night and then I said to DH that I wanted to go home. I thought he would ask why and tell me I was being an idiot, but he packed up and we left. As we drove away, he said that the place had scared him, he hadn't liked it at all and it felt off. I hadn't said anything about how I felt at all. He felt like he couldn't put his back to the door!! It was weird. Never felt like it since. It was a strange place.

imjustahead · 15/01/2015 18:32

ooh where was it?

Ashollie · 15/01/2015 20:44

Hardly ever post on here just very nosy!! BUT started reading this thread a few days ago and got so creeped out reading about the op who told the story of the woman all. In black at the end of her bed?! Really freaked me out and couldn't carry on reading but tonight I came back and read all the spooks!!! Thought it would only be fair if I add a couple of my own Grin

When I was a teen we stayed in an old house out In the countryside and I used to be convinced there was a presence that visited me in the night. On one occasion I was asleep when I felt the sensation of my duvet lightly wafting up and down I sleepily patted the duvet down and felt what I can only describe as the feeling you get when you stick your hand out of the window when your driving in a car!

A few months later I was sat watching telly on a night time on my own while my parents were out and sister was in her bedroom. I had my back to a wall of windows when I see the security light go on outside turn around to expect to see my parents car come up the driveway but no one there. Continue to watch telly when I hear behind me footsteps on the chuckle stones walk around the room then stop at the opposite window where an old man is peering in then carrys on walking round the rest of the house! Turns out he was just a poor old man with dementia who had gotten lost Sad

This one is a bit final destination! Me and dp are driving along dual carriageway one evening on our way to cinema. It had been heavy snow and icy conditions the previous days so we take our time and don't overtake a lorry up in front. We are having our usual laugh and jokes then pause and both look straight ahead to see a huge sheet of ice slide off the top of the lorry in front and come gliding through the air straight for us for it to skim right over the top of our car! We carry on driving in silence for a few moments before we both freak out at how close we could have been to the ice smashing into our windscreen and God knows what else!! Shock I have many more but this post is too big!!!

Creepiest thing ever wasn't woo in nature at all. It was the middle aged man that used to follow me and my sister to school every morning. He'd br driving, park up so we would walk past them curb crawl. He'd switch sides of the road if we did too, and he was never fully dressed. We did tell the police, as far as I know he couldn't be charged with anything so he just moved house.....to opposite a primary school. Ugh.

More recently though, last night I couldn't sleep. Or, I had been sleeping but I woke up, went to the toilet and came back. I was settling down when I felt what felt like someone drumming their fingers in my ankle. I looked up expecting to see one of the kids but there was no one there!

I watched Marble Hornets a couple of years ago. Proper freaked myself out. I didn't know it wasn't true to start off with though!

JessePinkmansHoody · 16/01/2015 11:11

Yes let's keep this going. Love this thread. I feel disappointed when I log in and there are no new ones.

Just thought of a couple of small ones... Years ago myself and then BF lived at his parents house for a while.. An allegedly haunted house according to his mother... And the small room we shared used to have a bright square patch on the wall at night when all else was pitch black. It was as if something was reflecting onto it but there was nothing. The same bit of wall looked normal in the day time. We got used to it in the end.

Also in this house, I once walked into the dining room with BF, where I'd left my handbag on the table, in time to see it land BACK on the table, as if it had been in the air directly above. We didn't actually see it hovering or anything - just landing. There was no one in the room with it.

Millionsmom · 16/01/2015 12:19

Here's one of mine.
We used to live in Bahrain, and loved it there! But DH took a job in Saudi - we didn't like Saudi but loved the proximity to Bahrain, so every now and then me and the dc would go to Bahrain for the weekend. I'd hire a car and visit friends, go shopping etc - women can't drive in Saudi. Anyway, it was US Thanksgiving and we were invited to a meal at our friends house, so I picked up the car at the airport and started our journey, it was only about 30 mins away. On the way there, me and the dc sang along to the songs on the radio, chatted and a good laugh. Near where are friends lived, we had to take a short cut along the back of the houses. On one side of the track there are houses the other a military base with floodlights spilling light onto the unlit track.
So we're happily driving down the track and I slow down to take a right turn I know is coming up, but I don't see it - it's lit by the floodlight - where I know it is, it's about 200 metres further along the track. So I put my foot down. All if a sudden the road disappears and we're flying through the air like the Dukes of Hazard. I thought 'We're dead, I've just filled the car up with petrol, no way we'll survive the drop onto the rocks'. I could see their outlines looming below.
The car landed with a thud, but drove on about 10 metres before stopping.
No one was hurt. The car was trashed. We all walked away.
The soldiers at the base came rushing over, couldn't believe what they'd seen. The police came, they couldn't believe it either. Took a statement and let us go on the the party.
The next day, in the day light, I could see just how lucky we'd been! If we'd been going slower we'd have landed on huge boulders at the end of the road, our tank would've pierced for sure. It looked like 'someone' had picked the car up, carried it over loads of these nasty looking boulders and sent the car down about 300 metres away. I wasn't speeding, I was doing about 50k The car didn't have wings or turbo boost, how we 'flew' so far is a mystery. The car hire people only believed that a crane hadn't lifted it because the soldiers on guard duty had witnessed it.

JessePinkmansHoody Shock at your bag levitating!
After never being at all 'woo', various things happening in the last 15 years has left me completely convinced that there must be spirits/souls all around us, watching us all the time...

here are some of mine...

15 years ago I was living alone. I was watching a documentary on TV about a guy who believed he'd accidentally recorded the voice of his dead wife, he had been recording birds singing, listened to the recording and could hear a faint voice in the background, turned it up and sure enough it was his dead wife's voice saying hello. From this recording equipment was developed that could pick up very quiet sounds and when left in rooms while people slept and then played back, loads of voices could be heard, mostly laughing and joking!

This did spook me a bit, but whilst watching the program I felt a kind of gentle gust of wind on my face (all windows were shut), but ignored it.

I went to bed and woke up during the night to a constant loud 'tapping' on the window next to my bed. There was nothing outside like a plant or wire that could be making the noise, so I wondered if it was something else!

I sat up in bed and said out loud "I know you think you are being funny tapping on the window, but you are just being annoying. I've got work in the morning, so please go away and stop tapping!"

All of a sudden from the bathroom there was a REALLY loud banging, like someone was slamming the hot water tank with something heavy...had never heard ANY noise like it coming from there before. After about 5 loud bangs it suddenly stopped and there was no more tapping on the window.
I am convinced that something saw me watching the TV program and thought it would be funny to spook me, then made a point of making more noise before stopping, in reply to my request!

Another one...

Playing with my cat in our living room, throwing her little pom pom that she plays with, I threw it too far and it went under the foot rest. Both me and my cat went straight there to get it out. I was really puzzled to find it wasn't there...I had definitely seen it go under there. I straight away looked all over and found it under the sofa the other side of the room...totally freaked me out for ages Confused

Another...

when we moved our bedroom into the loft, foot steps constantly walking across the floor at the foot of our bed at night (we moved back to old bedroom as so noisy!)

Last year we both woke about 6am to a bizarre loud 'humming' noise. It seemed to be coming from all over...never heard anything like it before in my life. Eventually we fell asleep and I dreamt that a perfect round hole appeared in the ceiling above me and large round beam of light shot down and we were both kind of 'beamed' up through the hole. I saw glimpses of a place I didn't recognise and there were other strangers there who seemed very confused about why they were there. Then I woke up, back in bed, humming stopped about 2 hours later. Probably nothing, but I do wonder, especially since reading about other people across country experiencing loud 'humming' noise. Plus a year earlier had seen some weird one dimensional figure appear in living room (posted here before about that).

Another...

Have a calculator that numbers appear on everyday (when no one else in house). Had ignored this until one evening last year (was alone, partner away with work) I watched a TV program/film briefly. I think it was called 'Paranormal Activity', it was too scary anyhow, so only managed to watch about 5 mins! This couple seemed to have a sinister entity in their home.

Next day the calculator had the numbers '666666' on it!!! Shock. Have checked it everyday since and often there is one number and it is today's date!!

Alsmutko - someone might have mentioned this, but in the days before CDs and the repeat function, people used tape recorders to repeat tracks onto one tape manually so it could be played as if on repeat (to however many times it was recorded onto the tape) - perhaps an explanation? Smile
