To ask what is the strangest/creepiest thing that has ever happened to you?

JudgeyHotPants · 22/12/2014 13:24

I have two strange/creepy unexplained events that stick in my head.

The first happened when I was teenager, my DF ran his business from our family home and we had a phone/fax machine in the living room. Whenever we picked up the phone we could always hear a radio station playing very distantly on the other end. I'll never forget the time I picked up the phone to ring a friend and could hear Penny Lane playing!

The other is slightly more sinister. My DM and I were at home alone one evening, it was summer and still warm and I had the bedroom window open. I can remember hearing a loud crash in the garden, thought maybe the cat had knocked something over and thought little of it. Then my mum suddenly popped her head around the door told me that she was going to bed and that she'd "locked all of the doors". Thought it was an odd thing to say, but thought little of it. That night I was kept awake by the next door neighbours security light going on and off, and when I got up the next morning my DM pointed out that the garden ornaments and solar lights from next to the fence had been smashed.

That's when she told me that she to and heard the crashing sound the night before, and got up to investigate and when she looked through the kitchen window she was convinced she could see a person peering through the window, as as if they were standing next to it with their back against the wall and peeing in from the side, but wasn't sure if she was seeing things or not! She was scared enough to lock all of the doors, but not to ring he police it seems! Still freaks me out now! I'm sure someone was in our garden for whatever reason!

After my mum died, the very day, our cats wouldn't come in the house. Or if they did, they were very nervous around the dining chairs.

She died very suddenly and I was in shock for some time.

Eventually, I said to the chair (where she always sat when she came to visit, 'I love that you are here mum but you are upsetting the cats. Can you go and sit with one oft sisters for a bit'?

I am sorry I did really because the next day and from then on, the cats are more than happy to be in there and even sit in the chair.

I wasn't scared or upset, it is really odd - I just kind of knew she was there but shouldn't be.

Tsk - one OF MY SISTERS! Oops.

AngryBeaver · 08/01/2015 00:29

My husband, who is very down to earth and non woo. Came flying into a bedroom -where I was getting one of our kids ready for bed- going "ohmygodohmygodohmygod"
He was completely freaked out.
The hairs on his arms were standing up.
We were only renting the place (after emigrating) and were moving into our own house soon.
I told him I didn't want to know what had happened until we were out.

On the day we moved I asked him.
He said he'd been in the kitchen and a mans voice had whispered into his ear "I'm here" !!!
He totally shit himself!!

I wa never happy in that house though. It was creepy. And we'd had very bad luck there.
Also, there was a few rooms at the back of the house that were shut off from the main house by a door (utility rooms) but one was covered in material like black bin bags.
I was always uneasy there and got out ASAP, dh asked me if I'd seen the writing on the walls.
I hadn't. But it was a child he had written things like 'I don't like him'
'I don't want to go back on the boat' 'I'm very bad' etc
Hated that place!

Wish I hadn't started reading this in bed, with the lights off and everyone sleeping.

Anyway I have a few stories, spookiest one is from my childhood but don't want to creep myself out by thinking about it tonight. Maybe share that one tomorrow.

So the first story:
When my DD was 3.5, she attended nursery in the mornings. My aunt and my mum took turns at picking her up and watching her in the afternoon whilst I was at work.

One morning I'm chatting to DD at breakfast time. I tell her that her gran will be picking her up after nursery today. She looked my right in the eye and said. No she won't. Kirsty (my brothers girlfriend) is coming to get me today. My DD hadn't seen my brother or his girlfriend for a couple of months, and they had never babysat her or anything. DD would see them occasionally at my mums house but that was it. Anyway I brushed if off as just a random thing a 3 year old would say and think nothing more off it.

Fast forward a few hours and it's lunchtime at work. I get a chance to check my phone only to find loads of missed calls from my mum. I panic and call her back as I know something has happened. My uncle had taken a stroke and was in a bad way in hospital. My mum was in hospital by his side. She then told me that my brothers girlfriend had collected DD from nursery and was watching her as the rest of the family where on thier way to the hospital.

I did find it really creepy that DD had said what she did in the morning and then it happened. I did try to ask her later how she knew that Kirsty would be picking her up from nursery but she said she didn't want to talk about it.

Ok and one more story before I try to get some sleep and not think about this thread.

A few years back my aunt (same one in last story) and uncle were on holiday. On the second last night she had a dream her house was burgled. She said they smashed the back patio doors to get in and took all her jewellery, some cash she had in a savings tin and loads of other things but they left the TV.

Anyway because the dream was so vivid and it freaked her out she called my cousin to go check on the house to make sure it was OK. My cousin didn't want to go alone in the off chance something had happened to the house so she asked me to go with her.

We go and the house was fine. Alarm was still on and everything was as it should be. We locked up and where headed back to the car when the next door neighbour shouted us over (semi detached house) . She had been burgled the night before when she was on a work night out. They had broken in through the patio doors at the back. And yup taken pretty much everything but the TV.

We told the neighbour about my aunts dream and that was the reason we were over in the first place and it freaked her out.

Darkandstormynight · 08/01/2015 03:13

I had two premonitions. I dreamt about my mother's death and funeral. This was five years before she died, was very healthy, etc. All the details were the same, kind of sickness, she had a shaved head (brain cancer), etc. I woke up bawling and grieving. I truly felt like she had died (never told her of course). It was much more 'real' than a regular dream. When she died the exact same way it took me awhile to remember that I had the premonition about it.

The second premonition was when my mother was still alive, 10 years before I even met dh. I had a dream I was going up the side of a mountain in a conveyer of some sort with a man and boy around aged 10. He had very blond hair. Dh, ds and I moved to a mountainous area four years ago. Before we moved I saw a picture of the conveyer in travel brochures and nearly fainted. It was the same conveyer and ds was that little boy and dh was the man in my dream.

I've had one more very 'real' dream, where my cousin dies in a car accident. I told dh so he could collaborate my story should it happen, heaven forbid.

Probably the strangest was realizing I had dreamt about my son 12 years before he was even born.

Darkandstormynight · 08/01/2015 03:47

Also not dream related for about four years I had the numbers 2 and 7 follow me, usually together but sometimes with a zero added. For example my dorm room was room 27. Phone number there had a 27 in it. Moved out, new address had a 27 in it. New boyfriends address was 207. And many other 27 occurances. I was diagnosed with cancer at 27 too.

Spadequeen · 08/01/2015 08:23

Omg just remembered another one.

My old friends mum used to read tarot cards and I got her to do mine for a laugh, there were some good coincidences, she told me about a pregnancy close to me, fairly generic, not difficult to guess really, but I was telling my then boss, who then told me she was pregnant.

She also told me about a man watching over me, older man on a hill looking out to see, again also fairly generic and an easy guess, but I took it to mean my grandad and it always comforted me.

She then told me about getting my dream of house with white fence, nit picket but she could see a white fence and chickens and goats, I took this to mean living in the country but I'm well and truly a city girl so took it with a pinch of salt. Forgot all about this til now reading this thread. I still live in the city, but have chickens and a white fence!!!

I have a few which I've told on here before.

We lived in a house which always made me feel incredibly uneasy in certain parts. I couldn't put my finger on why, but I used to get cold feelings etc in there. Then one day I lost a ring, it disappeared off my finger and i couldn't explain where it could have gone. We turned the house upside down to look for it but couldn't find it. I resigned myself to the fact that it had obviously gone for ever. Then about four months later ds came running out of the kitchen and said "look mummy I've found your ring." it was in the middle of the kitchen floor.

Strange things happened in that house. I heard a child crying and was sure it was ds but it wasn't. The dog bowl moved across the kitchen floor on its own, and one night my then dh had gone away overnight and I was on the computer in the dining room when I heard someone walk across the decking at the back of the house. I was absolutely scared shitless and even posted on mn about it at the time. But there was no-one there, yet I had heard distinctieve footsteps but hadn't heard the gate open or close or anything.

Also I used to have dreams that I was being followed by a horrible presence which used to pick me up and pin me against the wall. I would wake up terrified. When we moved out of the house the dreams stopped.

WannaBe · 08/01/2015 09:24

When we lived in South Africa we once drove past a stall selling various carved stuff, supposed to be of African origin but most of which I'm sure had been mass produced for the tourist trade.... anyway me and my sister each bought a carved wooden box. there was nothing special about them, no symbols carved on to them or anything they were just pretty trinkets really.

Anyway I took mine home and a few weeks later I put two addresses in it, both written down on pieces of paper.

The two people whose addresses they were died within a week of each other. Shock

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 08/01/2015 10:35

While I was pregnant, I had to go to the labour ward one night for monitoring. It's the same hospital where my younger brother, who died, was born, and I was taken into the very room where he'd been born 17 years ago. As she'd been visiting that day, my mum came with me. While I was on the monitor, my mum noticed the clock was moving very fast, but we wrote it off as the clock trying to readjust to the time - we'd seen it happen before in hospitals and similar, so we weren't too concerned.

It stopped at 00:13, the time of his birth, and stayed there for 17 minutes, one for each day he'd lived. Then, once that was done, it span around a couple more times and found the actual time, which was around half past eleven.

Pumpkinette, do come back and tell your other story!

CorporateRockWhore · 08/01/2015 11:11

I was sitting in a holiday apartment in Spain, chatting with my friend and listening to music.

All of a sudden, each of the CDs on the table flew across the room, one by one, about 8 feet and landed in a neat pile in front of us.

Thank god it was our last night there, I was completely freaked!

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 08/01/2015 11:20

Metallic I know your last post on here was December 28th (I think), but I'm a bit freaked out now - that 'Drink and Drive' poem, is it the one along the lines of 'You told me not to drink, mom' - told in like a letter to parents?

That poem has always freaked me out, as before I'd ever read it, I wrote something incredibly similar.

itsonlysubterfuge · 08/01/2015 11:36

When I was younger, I think I was around 13 or 14. I woke up (probably around midnight) and noticed that there was a red pointer light coming through my window. I looked outside and noticed that someone was outside in the bushes shining a red pointer laser through my window. At the time I just thought it was a neighbour boy just being a teenager, but now I realize it might not have been. I also realized belatedly that I shouldn't have peered out of my window completely topless, where the person could very obviously have seen me.

Another time I looked out the window late at night and noticed someone was standing at our front door dressed in grey sweats. Instead of waking my parents up, I crept downstairs to make sure the door was locked. When I went back upstairs no one was outside. The next day I had a good look at our front door and around, there was nothing out of the ordinary.

MellowMarshmallow · 08/01/2015 11:37

This thread is really interesting.

I am so relieved to hear other people have premonitions. A bad one I had a few months ago has just come true and I am really freaked out by it.

Penguinsaresmall · 08/01/2015 11:42

I've probably told this story before but I never tire of telling it, so here goes...

There was an 18th century mansion a few miles from where I used to live. It had been abandoned years ago and was in ruins. It was down a long drive and had been secured from the public with high fences, barbed wire etc. My BF at the time had heard there was a way of getting in, so the two of us and another couple decided to go and have a nose around.

We got in, had a wander around and found at the back of the house you could get down into a huge cellar, with corridors going off in all different directions. I started to walk down a corridor, feeling a bit creepy as I was alone down there and it was quite dark, then as I turned a corner I almost walked into a man. He was standing sideways looking straight ahead at the wall. I took a sharp intake of breath and he turned his head really slowly to look at me - for a few seconds I was so shocked I couldn't move. He was wearing a dark military style uniform with a peaked cap, and as his head turned he just stared right at me, completely expressionless.

I knew instantly that he wasn't 'human' - he was solid and real enough looking, but he was so grey and dark, and moving so strangely, and although it was dark he seemed to be lit somehow, almost like a black and white film running in front of my eyes, if that makes sense.

It must have only been a couple of seconds before I turned and ran and started shouting for the others. I ran back up from the cellar, out of the house and down the drive to where we'd got in, with my BF and the other couple running behind me, all crapping themselves because they didn't have a clue what had happened.

This happened about 20 years ago, way before anything could be Googled. Anyway years later I was telling the story to a friend and we then looked up the mansion on the web - and read that in WW2 it was used as an RAF communications HQ Shock...

I occasionally dream about people when they're going through a hard time but I don't know it iyswim.

I had a dream about a friend I hadn't spoken to for a while, when I called her it turned out she'd left her emotionally abusive h...

another time I had a dream that then dh's best friend who we hadn't spoken to for a while knocked on my door and when I opened it he practically fell through and said "we've had the most horrible year." I remember remarking to h that we really ought to ring him. Then about three days later I had the exact same dream again. So I rang him that night and the first words he said were "oh, we've had the most horrendous year." they'd been going through the most awful time, severe illness, financial crisis, etc etc.

Funkytown · 08/01/2015 12:07

it was the day of my aunts funeral and i had a 3 year old son at the time, i had decided not to tell him what had happened or let him go to the funeral as the last time he had seen her was when he was 1 year old and is likely to have forgotten about her and i didn't want to cause him any heart ache.

any way so as i was getting ready to leave my son was standing in the door way of my bedroom he was staring straight down the hall (to a point i couldn't see), i thought he was in a comfortable stare until her turns around to me and says 'its ok you know mummy auntie (name) is in heaven cuddling my nanny'
my mother died when i was 6months pregnant with him and he never knew of her and he didn't know that my aunt had died.
well i burst into tears of joy on that spot because a fear of mine was my mother being alone when we were all in the world living

Letmeeatcakecakecake · 08/01/2015 13:10

Something that's happened a few times.

I've been dreaming and loved ones who have passed away have come to visit me. A friend of mine who died when we were 18 came, and he was telling me he was alright, and well done on passing my driving test, I couldn't stop hugging him and crying and felt sooo emotional.

The next one was my great nan who had passed away came to visit, she didn't say anything but the aura around her was that she was fine.

The last one I had... And probably the most emotional one... Was I was at a house with my family, and our lovely cat who died about 5 yeses ago was suddenly sitting on her favourite chair. I was fussing over her and saying hello and was so happy to see her! It was her way of letting us know she was ok and watching us!

Every single one of these dreams made scenes and felt real. You know how dreams are sometimes a bit odd? These weren't. I knew these were the person visiting and I'd be so happy and emotional whilst they were happening!

I'd always wake up after them feeling calm, content, and happy. After the dream with my dear cat, I could not stop crying!
