Growing up in the 70's

I bet there's been one of these before but who remembers stuff about the 70's, looking back to me it was all a bit weird.

So some of my memories.

Mary Mungo and midge, the music in the lift. my orange space hopper, gridsy marbles and clackers.
Dehydrated potato, free milk you had to drink at school.
Playing out from after breakfast until dark or tea.

Never got a space hopper either

Always remmber waking up and running to the bedroom chair to ger school uniform and getting dressed under the blankets which were ex miltary one orange wall paper paying the elec bill in a shop in town

Plus I remmber that the out panients recpiention at Leciester hostpil was purple

We were in the NW then too - it was Camell Laird's where dad worked.

Lunchtime children's TV - Pipkins, Bod and A Handful of Songs

Evening TV - Six Million Dollar Man, Blake's 7 and Tomorrow's World we should be travelling by jet pack now

Grandstand on a Saturday with Frank Bough and Eddie Waring on the rugby league

French skipping
Crossroads being on the radio during the power cuts
It being really dark in the mornings when we walked to school - we had fluorescent orange armbands to wear
My mum making me a pair of tartan flares during my BCR phase
Getting my first pair of wedges
Finding punk rock in my early teens, going to my first gig

Leaving my home at 8am and cycling to my pony. Going out alone on said pony and not getting home until it was dark... Cycling home with my little lights on.

Nylon nightdresses (red and white striped) and bylon bedspread. We used to lie in the dark and rub the 2 together to make sparks.

Camping holidays in Devin with our huge blue and orange canvas frame tent.

Party seven beer - and my dad and his mates battling to get into one.

Family rooms in pubs. We would get a glass bottle of coke with a straw and a packet of salt n shake crips and be left to our devices whilst the adults got pissed elsewhere in the pub. Hmm

Being free to play and roam in a way that no kids get the chance to these days.

My mums twin tub.

wood cladding in our dining room and people coming to marvel at it.

I remember a girl in my O level maths class bringing in her calculator to show the rest of us. Amazing! She wasn't allowed to use it in exams, of course.

Forgot to say nearly everyone had a coal shed in the garden and a coal bunker and companion set.

Monopoly and Cluedo had wooden houses and people.

baubles on the xmas tree were prettier than the ones you buy today. More individual and made of glass.

christmas cards had photos of baubles on or cute fluffy animals dressed up in Xmas outfits.

And the drinks cabinet in the sideboard...yes. In fact they still have the same sideboard.
