To be miffed at "Gift list for mother of the baby" enclosed in *Baby naming ceremony* invitation?

So some close friends (who married in church), but now claim to be atheist are holding a naming ceremony for their 8 month old first baby in an hotel.....

The invitation is beautiful with a map, timings "event closes at 11pm"?

The gift list ranges from £30-to £300, all items for the mother, cosmetics, trinkets, jewellery, pampering breaks, personalised hand-bound stationery and photo albums...

Anybody know the drill for these naming ceremonies? Are we supposed to guess a gift for the baby? Or just congratulate the mother for deciding on a name?

I have read this a dozen times and am staggered beyond belief-DP read it and fell into hysterics....

My gut tells me to go along with Jo Malone scented nappies or something.

Somebody please tell me this is not normal?!?!?!

err charlottehere have you actually read the thread? Hmm

wharrgarbl · 22/06/2013 11:22

I think Froooonk just wants to be guaranteed of the last word, hence the 'don't contact me, you hurtful bitchaz' drama. Dingbat.

And charlotte, read the whole thread. Really.

sweetestcup · 22/06/2013 11:38

Even if you cant read the whole thread Charlotte, you can highlight OPs posts and read them.

Thumbwitch · 22/06/2013 13:39

Hmm - double, does he have a website? I suppose it would be really bad form for you to give us a hint of it, and for us to go and have a nosey, would it? [bad]Wink

That was one amazing thread! I was shocked at the "grabby" mum-to-be, horrified at the sister and DDP and astounded by the support and skills of doubleshotespresso. If I ever need someone in my corner, I know exactly where to go!

doubleshotespresso · 22/06/2013 17:08

Back again, just getting ready to visit friends for dinner but had a call earlier from friend who has spoken to her sister...... "I'll fill you in when you get here and have poured you a glass of wine"....... Ooooeeeerrr.

So will be back later with an update for you all......

Have a good time double. Wish you could offer your friend all of the good wishes that shone for her, here Smile

Interesting reading the exchange with the DDP. Master-stroke to have added a second string to the email "push", and no doubt that is why you got such a speedy return on funds.
His tone doesn't surprise me really.....common ploy for those in the wrong, business wise, to absolve themselves of any responsibility and ensure that not one syllable of a letter could be used to infer and liability or responsibility on their part. Basically, "here's the money which I am giving as a goodwill gesture because I didn't do anything wrong". They are usually terrified of being sued.
Doesn't make it right, or even tolerable though!!

Longing to hear what the Dsis has come up with as excuses. Actually. when I read an earlier post asking for "just one more update", I thought that the one I really want to see will be how the actual Naming Day goes Smile
