One idle google and 10 minutes later dd and I have a pan full for lunch, it's lovely.

It was bad enough finding out about cleaning washing machines, and Veet to unclog hairy plug holes.... and now you failed to tell me this Angry

Well you horrible lot, what else have you being holding out on, and keeping from me?????

Byeckerslike · 28/02/2012 13:48

annabegins, why not? Mine worked yesterday, but it was quite ripe...

The apple ripping on the other hand :(

AnnaBegins · 28/02/2012 13:50

(Obviously it was so traumatic I managed to post 3 times...)

Ahh Byeckers , my banana was a greenish one, that might be the problem! Shall have to leave them to go soft and have another go.

This is definitely the way to get your 5 a day :)

Chocolategirl3 · 28/02/2012 13:52

Byeckerslike · 28/02/2012 13:54

You know all those "what would you tell you X yo self.." threads?

Well, right now, I would tell my 19yo self that whilst making those beanbag cushions for your college room is a genius idea, and that she will treasure them for years and have many happy memories of various people falling asleep on using them, 23 years later she will be cursing the decision not to put in a zip (yes, I know she couldn't afford one at the time) as when the geriatric cat pees all over one of them it will cost £7 and two trips to town to get it washed because it won't fit in the machine.

I cannot quite believe that I haven't washed them for 23 years - but if I had, I would surely remember how - wouldn't I Confused?

Byeckerslike · 28/02/2012 14:06

Well this is probably well known but it is possible to unshrink wool...

I shrunk DHs merino wool jumper yesterday DS(3) nearly inherited it! as it was in amongst a load of washing and i washed and tumble dried it his fault im maintaining

Soak in a bath of cold water with a squirt of hair conditioner for half an hour, then gently pull and tease it back to shape. Squeeze out excess water and then either lay flat with a towel underneath, or hang on a well fitting hanger (to avoid shoulder spikes) to dry.

Worked a treat :)

GrimmaTheNome · 28/02/2012 14:07

whattodo - if you want the peel for deterring cats, why not squeeze the oranges rather than peeling. You might even find the half-skins double up as slug traps.

tantrumsandballoons · 28/02/2012 14:07

Fab woman- the bubbles is all the leftover crap from not cleaning the washing machine
There was LOADS in mine

whattodoo · 28/02/2012 14:10

My banana didn't work. It was pretty ripe, was wondering if I should try it with a greener one, but from posts above it seems not.

Will try the bottle of water with the cat thing though.

And hunt out an orange peeler gizmo thingy.

I've never put an animal in the fridge. Many moons ago I did that trick about keeping your make up in the fridge to keep the eye/lip pencils sharp. Then I forgot where I'd put my make up and ended up having to go to work naked! Never again, I keep my make up in the car now.

tantrumsandballoons · 28/02/2012 14:15

Ooh I know the make up one (jumps up and down with happiness at something I actually have heard of)

Clearly housework is not my strong point but at least I know that you have to keep your eye make up cold (along with tortoise/blossom hill )

Will now hide in this thread until someone tells me the best way to get a streak free mirror prob will never do it but nice to know

tantrumsandballoons · 28/02/2012 14:18

unshrink wool?
What, actually UNSHRINK?? Get it back to normal size??

Oh my actual days why did I not know that one ( thinks sadly of all the lovely jumpers DS1 had which would now only fit the borrower family )

GrimmaTheNome · 28/02/2012 14:20

a streak free mirror
get rid of major dirt any way you want. Rinse with plain water, dry a bit and then polish with e-cloth. Once you've done this just water spray and e-cloth will do it.

You do have e-cloths don't you? Grin

TreacleSoda · 28/02/2012 14:20

Newspaper, Tantrums, newspapers.

you crumple up two pieces of newspaper, you wet one, scrub the mirror, then buff it dry with the, er, dry one. Streak free mirrors are yours.

GrimmaTheNome · 28/02/2012 14:22

Newspapers may clean mirrors but they leave your hands filthy. Really, e-cloth!

tantrumsandballoons · 28/02/2012 14:23

Not only do I not have an e cloth, I have no idea what the fuck an e cloth is, EXPLAIN PLEASE (begging, I need to know.....)

whattodoo · 28/02/2012 14:23

e cloths. I think I have some. But don't really know what their magic powers are supposed to be and how best to use them - please fill me in.

Honeydragon · 28/02/2012 14:24

whattodo

Did you go in naked to distract people from the fact you weren't wearing any make up? Grin

I shall try that next time I run out mascara, I'll Veet my plughole first though so as to be tidy before I go.

Byeckerslike · 28/02/2012 14:31

ecloths best. invention. Ever.
