to tell me what a piece of piss Chicken and Sweetcorn soup is to make! It takes 5 minutes and costs fuck all. I have being buying this stuff you know? With ACTUAL money.

One idle google and 10 minutes later dd and I have a pan full for lunch, it's lovely.

It was bad enough finding out about cleaning washing machines, and Veet to unclog hairy plug holes.... and now you failed to tell me this Angry

Well you horrible lot, what else have you being holding out on, and keeping from me?????

It's not for the faint hearted frigg :)

Mibby · 28/02/2012 11:23

Great thread :) just doing my first washing machine 'wash'

tantrumsandballoons · 28/02/2012 11:25

....googling that now (wondering if I could possibly pass that off as work if anyone notices)

TreacleSoda · 28/02/2012 11:26

Have been reading this thread with interest , and much mirth!

Tinwe never fear. Soda crystals are non scary, I use them a lot, great at getting grease off things.

Caustic soda is very scary, and I fear taking the flesh off my hands with it unless wearing multiple pairs of rubber gloves. Have vision of cartoon style flesh burning and then being left with bare bones on the end of my arms....

Honeydragon · 28/02/2012 11:26

Well at least with Hedgehogs you'd ahve somewhere to keep your cheese and pineapple

camelknees your post from 22.24 last night just made me snort coffee out my nose. Keep clam!!!!!
This thread must go to classics, but I still can't understand why you use veet instead of bleach on your plug holes. I do understand why you use the veet, of course I do,just a bottle of bleach is about 85c so must be even cheaper in sterling...
Can't wait to tearan apple apart in front of dd and confirm that I am in fact a super hero!

TreacleSoda · 28/02/2012 11:38

there is another thread in chat this morning asking if its ok to buy a fridge from a charity shop. Do you think someone should nip over and warn the OP that although its fine, she should be sure to check for tortoises when she gets it home?

tantrumsandballoons · 28/02/2012 11:42

Or hedgehogs, paint, chopped onions, smell of squid .....

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly · 28/02/2012 11:43

Instead of a Dossil, take a used wash puff (those body wash thingies made out of plastic netting). Cut into 6-8 pieces (depending on the size of your plughole - fnarr). Put a piece in the plughole. Replace every few days, throwing out old one with the hair on it.

So you don't even have to clean anything, just throw out the plastic netting and hair every so often.

I think Keep Clam and Carry On should be a fridge magnet for the fishy fridge...

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly · 28/02/2012 11:48

x-post messymammy Grin

FriggFRIGG · 28/02/2012 11:53

lesley33 · 28/02/2012 12:06

Can you help?
How do I get my nets clean? Have some in window overlooking street. I washed wondows at weekend and realised how filthy nets were. I have handwashed them and then soaked them in bleach, but some areas still look pretty awaful.

And DP uses ensuit bathroom so I left it to DP to clean. Unfortunately DP doesn't clean often enough or well enough and the chrome bar in the shower now has bits of limescale on it and seems to have small black pits in it - I think the limescale has eaten away at the chrome? Any ideas?

PestoPenguin · 28/02/2012 12:15

Thank you drain experts Grin

It is the hand sink in the upstairs bathroom. I'd be surprised if it's the last one that leaves the house, but will ask DH to check. It's any water (hot or cold that causes it to smell, but the water itself is fine. The plughole in the bath in the same room doesn't stink. Plunging has no effect sadly, nor pouring drain cleaner down it. DH has some theory about the angle of the overflow pipe... I smiled and nodded Hmm.

It is truely vile.

Honeydragon · 28/02/2012 12:46

Re Net curtains someone up ^^^ tread said that a dishwasher tablet in with he washing machines cleans yellowed cotton. Might be worth a try?

OP posts:
tantrumsandballoons · 28/02/2012 13:14

Let that be a lesson to you lesley33, once you clean 1 thing then everything else looks dirty. Better off not cleaning anything....

Tinwe · 28/02/2012 13:19

Thanks treacle, will have to explore what I can do with soda crystals - would they help my mouldy curtains do you think?
Bought some special oven cleaner to do the oven... wish me luck!

whattodoo · 28/02/2012 13:20

Anyone git any top tips for peeling oranges? I avoid them like the plague because I can't stand the sticky mess. But i now need some orange peel to deter cats 'messing' in my garden. Apparently.

Boomerwang · 28/02/2012 13:22

Use a cocktail stick to drip vegetable oil into the middle of a hamster wheel and it won't squeak anymore when the hamster has a run.

Tinwe · 28/02/2012 13:23

tantrums sure DH will believe we can't afford an oven cleaner man... to be fair he wouldn't expect me to do it either, he's just a "shut the door and ignore the smoke alarm" type of guy

Boomerwang · 28/02/2012 13:24

whattodoo you can buy orange peelers from shops which have a large range of kitchen utensils.

Alternatively - and this worked for me - fill a clear plastic bottle (500ml size) with water and leave it in the areas where they poop. It IS that simple. Must be something to do with their movements being reflected and scaring them.

tantrumsandballoons · 28/02/2012 13:26

Only £30 tho, I would have paid much more ;(

Boomerwang · 28/02/2012 13:30

As for oven cleaning, I always keep a baking sheet at the bottom of the oven to catch any drips as it's far easier to remove that and wash it (or even replace it if you prefer) than to get on your hands and knees and scrub.

Kleeneze sell an oven cleaner spray which doesn't give off fumes and it works very well. I used it at work but I'll be honest and say the oven was cleaned regularly there. You could also use it on stubborn hob stains and the grille over the filter (take it off first obviously) just spray it on and leave it outside for 10-15 minutes then wash it off, spray on more and scrub it off with one of those dishwashing brushes.

Byeckerslike · 28/02/2012 13:32

TPKW last night at 20.21... Wd40 is good for oiling your clit Shock typo surely!? Grin

tantrumsandballoons · 28/02/2012 13:40
