to make a little sign for this woman?

I have ranted on a previous occasion about the morning rat-run through our village so very quick summary:

Single track roads - short-cut to city - I am apparently only person who needs to go opposite direction during rush-hour - majority of people coming the other way clearly think I am unreasonable for driving through my own village and glare and head-shake at me - I am cross.

Obviously it is the holidays now, so the school run traffic is missing which makes life much easier. However, there is one woman who I see every single time. She drives very fast on a narrow, twisty road with several blind bends so I finish up crawling around corners in case she comes hurtling the other way. She flatly refuses to back up even a couple of feet to the nearest passing space, and she makes no attempt to move over so that both cars can pass without scraping through the hedge. So I finish up reversing to the next passing space with her driving about 6 inches off my front bumper with a face like thunder, and then as soon as the road widens at all, she squeezes past, glaring at me all the time and shaking her head.

Bearing in mind the following:

  1. I live here and have as much right to leave the village as she does to cut through it.

  2. I drive a very small car which causes minimal obstruction.

  3. I don't drive dangerously fast.

  4. I am the one reversing and getting off the road.

would I be unreasonable to make a little sign saying "The next time you shake your head at me will be the last time I reverse for you. I can sit here all day - how about you?"

Would probably be unreasonable to add "cowbag" at the end, I suppose.

Sorry to disappoint but absolutely no sign of Cowbag. I wonder if she has actually conceded "the lanes" to me?!

I did have a minor stand-off with a bloke who didn't want to back his jag the 6 inches required for me to get into the passing place and gave me a cursory flick of his finger to tell me to back up to the next space.

I just raised my eyebrows at him and did exactly the same finger-flick back at him and he moved. I am starting to enjoy this.

I am starting to wonder if there is something a bit odd about these lanes that affects peoples' common sense - last week when I went to pick up DS I got to the last stretch of road before the main road - it is a tiny little cut down a steep hill, only about 50m long. I turned into the road and there was a car stopped in the middle with a bloke standing next to it with the door open. I waited, thinking he must have stopped to check his car or something and he carried on standing there with his back to me and I suddenly realised he was having a wee right in the middle of the road - there was a little stream of wee running off down the hill! So I waited and the weeing continued and I started wondering if he had even heard me pull up - he looked pretty relaxed. So I tooted and he clearly hadn't heard me as he jumped violently and, judging by the flapping and kicking, wee-ed on his own feet. He made a pretty speedy get-away at this point.

Seriously - who decides to stop their car in the middle of a road, half-way down a hill and have a wee?

Ha ha, the weeing on his feet story more than makes up for the cowbag not appearing today.

mummytime · 12/05/2011 09:43

Panda what are you doing on Tuesday evenings? Near me we have a road which is two way, except for the last 100 yards, where it clearly becomes one way as it gets narrow (the change is at the entrance to a shoppers car park). The last two Tuesdays (I am taxiing my DD home at the same time) we have run into the same car going the wrong way down the one way bit.
Maybe you could help me launch my own campaign against those who insist on driving the wrong way on one way streets (rather than use the one way system, like lesser mortals like I have to).

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 12/05/2011 09:43

Panda - you are a total legend! I am totally Shock at the chap standing in the middle of a hill, weeing - you definitely made him get his comeuppance.

I am worried about Cowbag. Do you think she is okay or lying in a broken humilated heap surrounded by empty gin bottles?

Will she come roaring up the lane in a tank with the gun turret swizzling around?
