morning all

HM I am snowed in too, span the car trying to get inthe drive last night, left it out, DH got it stuck across the road this morning (trying to be helpful) so he and a couple of neighbours had to push it to the side. DTs' school is open, as is mine, DH has made it to his, but its closed so he'll be home soon. We had a power cut in the night so no heating on this morning brrrr

I am day 3 of no booze too and need to lose my christmas weight

trips sorry to hear about your friend

FG nice to 'see' you!

and hello to everyone else!

triplets · 06/01/2010 12:40

A sneaky half hour, H just gone off for his blood test, and he is walking, puts me to shame, I am the one that needs too, will be soooooooooooooooooooo glad when I have eaten all the Christmas extras....life is such a struggle We had snow last night, couple of inches, I staggered home thru it at midnight from my friends, did us a meals on wheels supper, it was nice. Big scan day tomorrow, as Shabs the wise one says, "all will be well" byeeeeeeeee xx

HarrogateMum · 06/01/2010 12:58

Ruby - am doing it to cut down as have always (well for past 15 years) drunk too much....well if you consider how many units you are supposed to drink! Every year I have tried to cut down and every year I fail so I'm trying again and hoping that this time it will be the one...

Plus having a headache and bungy sinuses and feeling tired helps in not partaking!

I am so keen to get running again as well but not whilst there is a foot of snow outside the house! However walking in it is proving good exercise!

Trips - hope tomorrow is ok, will be thinking of you...

Right. We need a plan.

Right. Hibernation. Who is up for it?

Its something I have been meaning to do for aaages and I just can't find a downside to it.......

  • you lose weight through not eating
  • you don't gain Christmas lard-ass through eating for 15
  • your skin looks amazing due to consistent and quality 4 month sleep
  • you don't hear tantrums
  • the children don't tantrum because they are hibernating too
  • you clean the house at the very end of October and then wake at the beginning of March to a dribble of sunshine and a clean house
  • there are no big heating bills because you have wrapped yourself in a thin layer of leaves followed by every mattress and duvet you can find
  • friends and family reunions are sweet and tolerable due to time apart
  • every television programme is interesting
  • supermarkets are a novelty

I mean, shall I go on???? Its win win every direction!

I have always known I was a hedgehog deep down.

I'm off to post this in chat. I must spread the word.

piximonkeyingaround · 06/01/2010 19:05

Love the idea of hibernating FG

We didn't take dcs to school today. Car were spinning all over the place on our road and the bus is not running up to here.

Instead we went in the garden and built a giant snowman, dt1 thinks it is xmas again and she'll be going off flying with him tonight to see Father Christmas. Then we went for a walk to the park and popped into local shop on the way home for a few bits only to discover bare shelves, thankfully we have milk and bread in the freezer and loads of chocolate xmas supplies left over so don't need to panic yet.

Just had a text from the school to say they're closed for the rest of the week. . Was supposed to be dts first day at nursery tomorrow. They will be very tomorrow when I tell them they have to stay home.

trips on your behalf

fg - I'm up for it - sounds like heaven

school was closed and didn't bother with nursery as it is 12 miles away and the roads were very dodgy - so they were all home spoiling mummy and Lukes peace

MonkeyMargot · 06/01/2010 20:35

trips there is nothing wrong IMO in asking for the full ten squid back of your DS's mate. And I would maybe defer putting any more credit onto the phone....could be expensive!

It's finally snowed here in London too. Had quite relaxing day working from home whilst DH worked in town and DD was with nanny at my friends house (we do a nanny-share 2 days a week). Then went to see 2 houses as we desperately need more space once the twins arrive. One I loved, but it needs some work...which equals more money. Ho hum. Why can't I win the lottery? Is it because I don't buy a ticket?
I love the idea of Hibernating. I love hedgehogs. They are surprisingly fast.

triplets · 06/01/2010 20:52

Hello Monkeymargot did you get my nuts, must be M&S Just peeped at your profile, adorable pictures........ahhhhhhh! MM I can see you are a reader, spotted all your books! Its my turn to choose the next book for our book club and I am not terribly inspired atm, any recommendations? We have just read The Outcast by Sadie Jones, supper to discuss this Frid, I enjoyed it. I have noticed that if a book has lots of characters the discussion is always better. I was intrigued by the last book you mention on your profile page, is it good?
Hello everyone else, I am taking deep breaths, deep breaths, kids!

triplets · 06/01/2010 20:57

Oh hells bells! Its thick snow, got important scan 15 miles away tomorrow, don`t need this

MonkeyMargot · 06/01/2010 21:29

trips nuts? nuts? where are you? come to me!! I can't believe it - I had my supermarket delivery today, and because DH and I were feeling like lard-arses after xmas, I ordered no treats. Not a sausage. So DH gets home from work and is most upset there isn't even a choccie biccie in the house. Just a miserable packet of rich teas, which, lets face it, are the biscuit choice of a very desperate person (or someone with chronic morning sickness).

Right - onto Books. Ooh trips I am in a book club too. If I rewound my life, I'd never have imagined being part of a book club and enjoying it so much!! Not sure which book you refer to, if Revolutionary Road, I am halfway through, and it's enjoyable, in a cold, "Great Gatsby" kind of way.
The other, Harukami "wild sheep chase" is completely bonkers. Not sure the characters are easy to disect. You need to really get into it, I read it on hols (before DD was born!).
I would heartily recommend "The Corrections" (jonathan franzen)for a book club. The characters are all really strong. It's a bit like an american corrie. Our book club voted it their fave read of 2009!

oooggs · 06/01/2010 21:47

monkeymargot - your dd is so cute

trips - heres hoping you both get safely to the scan

Love the way it is Becca that still has credit

1stMrsF · 06/01/2010 22:09

Hello and Happy New Year to all.

I have braved serious weather today, (travelled from Surrey to South Wales to spend 10 days with my parents whilst DH is skiing. 10 whole days of 2 additional doting adults to help me with the babies. I may never leave...) almost snowed in at home and almost didn't make it the final 500m but now curled up in front of the wood stove having had a lovely welsh cowl (lamb, parsnips, carrots, potatoes and leeks plus stock and not a lot else, cook forever) and red wine brought to me. I highly recommend not a January detox but a January indulgence!

No sleep to speak of for 2 months now, but you can't have it all! Love to you all x

oooggs · 06/01/2010 22:12

sounds fab MrsF - I am also feeding my wood stove - don't you just love 'em?

shabbapinkfrog · 07/01/2010 01:03

Trips - no more credit on the boys phones under any circumstances....read them the riot act - this is not fair on you but unfortunatly this is lads!!! Boys are so rubbish at saying 'no you are not doing that!' LOL - this does not sound like me at all - I love young lads of this age but Im very cross for you....boys are so trusting and, to be quite honest, pathetic!!! Thinking about you my friend....xxxx
