D'y ever wonder why we wash towels if we only use them after baths?

I know there was no time and I feel all weighed down with the responsibility of it all, but here we are ladies, a new home...

Shabs, if someone from Glasgow is calling you a wee bitch then its likely you are about to feel the weight of her punch. Mind you, if it is said with a smile it means you have broken in to the inner sanctum and been accepted as a friend. You will likely keep that friendship forever and be always protected by them. If however, you step seriously out of line by crossing them badly or stealing their chips you will be beaten up to within an inch of your life. Does that help? I think a diluted version of this applies to the whole of the rest of Scotland, its just how we are

frumpygrumpy · 20/04/2009 11:09

Any other translations required?

haverin' = talking shit
(she is a 'haver', she is 'havering')

blether = talking too much
(she is a blether, she's bletherin)

mince = a Scottish dish or a way to describe crap "she's talking mince"

wheescht = shut up

weans = children

ben the hoose = indoors

skelf = splinter

sybies = spring onions

siver = a drain

cludgie or dunny = toilet

a plump = rain (a doot there's gauna be a plump = I think its going to rain)

As you can tell, there is a separate language from Gaelic up here I frequently jump on the "what's the Scottish word for....." threads.

frumpygrumpy · 20/04/2009 11:13

Next time you see her practice this:

"awrite hen, hows yersel, right quit bletherin and haverin and get yersel in for a cuppie tea wi me and ma man, d'ywant a piece?"

shabster · 20/04/2009 11:17

LOL Frumpster!!! When the Proclaimers sing the line 'when I haver...' I always wondered what they meant

The 'Weebitch' greeting is always said with a massive smile and a bear hug - so I think we are ok - for now!!

Ah now don't get me started on The Proclaimers!!!!!!! One lives near me. They are gems. We play them a lot in our house. And at Hogmanay, it sends us all bonkers

I'm haverin.

frumpygrumpy · 20/04/2009 11:46

Oooh Ruby, nice flop flops

I have a fantastic pair I bought last year in Mallorca. Very cheap, kind of cork soled with red straps, really comfy and are just off being totally flat (maybe a half inch sole, thats almost PLATFORMS by flop flop standards!!) Shop had gone the next time we went so don't know what the hell to do now! I am a bit fussy about my flop flops. A half inch sole is essential IMHO.

I love that we talk important stuff on this thread.

frumpygrumpy · 20/04/2009 11:53

couldn't find my favourite Proclaimers song on you tube (Make My Heart Fly) but I did find this, it makes me weep as they played this at my lovely first boyfriends funeral as he was a Hibs fan All the men at the ceremony sang it in very low voices and it was an unoffical choir.

This is the best way to hear this song, men singing it.

Jeez, its a bit early for this!!!!!!

TeaSleepFood · 20/04/2009 15:42

Thank you for the drinks and chocolate Hoochie. They helped enourmously

I quite liked their King of the Road as well!

I hope you're not too sad FG thinking about boyf? Happy times? That song makes me well up and I don't have any association with it.

Afternoon ladies.........sat nervously by the phone. I plucked up the courage to phone my surgery this morning to see if they had got my results, the ct scan is clear...............yippee............but they dont have the result of the lovely barium enema! They promised to contact the consultants secretary and get back to me, its like chinese torture..............nothing is ever easy here! Walked home from school this morning as it was so lovely, walked back up this afternoon as H was having a lay down and feel fast asleep, hadnt the heart to wake him. Oh will someone put me out of my misery? Is it too early for a Tio Pepe??

frumpygrumpy · 20/04/2009 18:26

Trips, keep that mind busy, its hell waiting isn't it. Clearing out cupboards always helps me in moments like this. Gets my frustration out. Your walk sounds heaven!
